41 Equipment problem of the 2011 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 01/27/2022

While returning home from a vacation, the glass over our sunroof suddenly exploded. We were traveling about 50 mph and just heard a sudden bang. We pulled over to investigate and it looked like it had exploded outward. We had a luggage carrier on top of the car that covered most of the sunroof, so I am confident that it was not struck by any objects.

Rotting frame!.

44 Equipment problem of the 2006 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 01/03/2022

My vehicle was in dealer shop for various maintenance 3 times (Nov 202 - may 2021 - Jan 2022). Frame rear passenger side rusting to the point I was told not to drive my vehicle on bad roads. Toyota dealer said to replace the frame thru them would cost me $14,000. I cried all the way home because I take exceptional care since I purchased her 2006 new. She is a cream puff. This should have been identified sooner. I have not driven her since Jan 3, 2022 because not only me+ (husband & dogs), but also my fellow motorists are at risk. Both my husband & an employee of the dealer shop asked Toyota directly in attempt to get them to replace frame at their expense. Toyota said no.

45 Equipment problem of the 2002 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 11/22/2021

The frame of the vehicle has severe rust and now has holes in the frame, making it unsafe to drive and possibly causing an accident. Meticulous care has been taken of this vehicle and it is never taken off road or abused. I’ve had several other vehicles and have never had this frame rust safety issue.

46 Equipment problem of the 2004 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 09/28/2021

The tail gate will not open. I had the vehicle since 2018 and it was working and now it's not working. I taken it to Toyota dealership and the cost is to much for at this point. I was wondering is there anything that can be done?.

47 Equipment problem of the 2006 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 09/02/2021

Bought the vehicle not knowing it has a rotting frame.

48 Equipment problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 08/28/2021

The latch hook/truck door release has a defect. It has been replaced 3 times after purchase of my vehicle , by the following Toyota dealerships (tejas Toyota in humble texas (2x); maund Toyota in austin, TX (1x). Each dealership service said it was/is manufacture defect with the latch hook and it stops “un latching when the vehicle the button is pressed to unlock and the handle can not open the hatchback” this time I was traveling out of state with my pet in the kennel and when we stopped for restroom break the latch would not open to retrieve the pet to let out the kennel. We were traveling with a vehicle full of items, which the entire inside of the vehicle had to be emptied I ordered to let all the seats down and try to maneuver to try to get my dog out of kennel I. Such a small confined space that was hard to open because it was in the side. It took over and hour to cut the cage at the top to retrieve my pet. The sad part is there was no warning because we were traveling a 13 hour trip, stopping every couple hours for breaks and stretches, and the couple hours before we open the hatchback just fine. This is more than a safety concern for the animal. This is also the ares for retrieving the spare tire underneath the vehicle when the spare has to be released. I have replaced the part 3 times and I am charged $600 cost for parts and labor, when Toyota is aware of the defect. I just had the part replaced 19 months ago and Toyota only gives a 12 warranty on the part. This is ludicrous when the manufacture is aware of the ongoing problem. I have purchased 4 prior Toyota’s and never had had this type of problem. My second safety issue is the case gage drops below the empty gage and stays there even though there is gas in the vehicle. The dealership said there was a recall years ago but I never received any notice. Please advise.

50 Equipment problem of the 2002 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 08/16/2021

The frame is rusting out in the key places needs to be replaced or remedied for future vehicles.

51 Equipment problem of the 2002 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 06/26/2021

While driving around 50 mph, the traction control and vsc warning lights illuminated and the brakes started locking up, which made me seem like the traction control kicked in. The front wheels started seizing and the vehicle started jerking in middle of the highway. I had to pull over and have a cousin pick up my parents that were riding in the car and had to restart the vehicle. I was able to drive it home with the problem happening again right as I was taking my exit to my home.

52 Equipment problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 06/01/2021

My gas gauge sensor consistently drops below the “e” marker when the truck has gas in it and especially when it is filled up. After driving about 50 miles or so, the gauge will move up some ; however, I have been relying on my dte monitor to let me know about gas. I have taken it to the dealer twice and both said “the gas tank needs to be dropped in order for repair” I was about to pay for the service but was told I had to make an appointment. However the service advise ask had I had it replaced before because there was a recall on that particular part several years ago. Please note I have never received any notice about a recall regarding the issue. Please advise.

53 Equipment problem of the 2019 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 02/23/2021

On February 23rd, 2021, while driving approximately 60 miles per hour on I-40, the moon roof on my 2019 Toyota Sequoia inexplicably exploded. It was well before rush hour and there was no traffic to send debris towards me. Nothing hit me. The glass exploded outward. There was no other damage to the roof of my vehicle.

54 Equipment problem of the 2001 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 02/01/2021

Recently I took the vehicle in to investigate a clunking noise. I was informed by the shop that the frame had completely rusted through, causing the rear stabilizer arm to become detached. I also had a front stabilizer link fail twice in a year, presumably from the frame excessively flexing. Upon further investigation, I came to learn that Toyota is quite aware of this very issue, they’ve issued recalls where insufficient measures may have been taken to temporarily stop the rusting, and that many many other Sequoia owners have the same exact problems that I’m having, and Toyota refuses to take responsibility for this premature failure and provide some sort of relief. Given the frequency and number of complaints, I’m kind of shocked that NHTSA hasn’t banned these vehicles from the roadways. Seems like a serious accident waiting to happen. It’s not like the facts are in question in this case. There must be hundreds or thousands of examples. If you do a web search for “2001-2004 Toyota Sequoia rust corrosion on frame” you’ll find a bunch of examples, as well as accounts of Toyota’s numerous refusals to stand behind their mistakes. I still have the vehicle, and would gladly help you with any investigation. I did have part of the frame welded just so I could limp it back home to WI. I towed it on a trailer. It runs great, and is in very good condition, which is why this is all such a shame.

55 Equipment problem of the 2014 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 01/01/2021

My 2014 Toyota Sequoia platinum has the frame rusting problem that other models have had; however my make/year is not included in the recall.

56 Equipment problem of the 2005 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 12/30/2020

These vehicles have a well known frame rust issue. In March of 2018, Toyota deemed this frame safe after an inspection and applied an undercoating to cover up the rust. A year later the undercoating began to flake off, revealing the severe rust underneath. Last week, not even three years later, we were making a right turn and felt a pop underneath. The passenger side sway bar mount broke loose from the frame, and the Toyota dealership told us the frame is so rotted there's nothing left to weld it back to. Other than the frame rot, the vehicle runs, looks, and drives like new. This frame, as well as many others, should have been replaced instead of undercoated. The class action lawsuit and service campaign are over, but I think this should be revisited, as there are still many instances of this happening.

57 Equipment problem of the 2017 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 11/20/2020

Spontaneously shattering sunroof. The sunroof spontaneously shattered while I was driving.

58 Equipment problem of the 2008 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 06/15/2020

Good afternoon, during the drive-thru and the car, started to shake, and the engine stops. After that, I contacted the tow-truck and brought it to Toyota dealer. The dealer has finally opened the engine, and the result was the valve spring was broken in half, and the spark plug also melted.

59 Equipment problem of the 2006 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 05/27/2020

I have purchased the vehicle a year ago. I happen to look at the carfax today and realize the carfax has more mileage then what is on the odometer.

60 Equipment problem of the 2007 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 04/16/2020

Extensive frame rot. There is a hole in the frame at the location of a body mount.

61 Equipment problem of the 2002 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 02/29/2020

I just bought my Jeep yesterday 2/29/2020 and I drove it off the lot and it feels like it's about fall apart, so I checked underneath the car and the sub frame is rusted so bad it can't even go on a mechanical lift because I tried to get an oil change and they couldn't do it and I can't even get brakes on it because it's to rusted. . . I have 4 children is this is not safe I really don't know what to do.

62 Equipment problem of the 2002 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 08/20/2019

Traction control system warning lights, came on while driving about 25 mph in sunny weather in deerpark texas. Two dash lights came on connected to traction failure? I have not ever seen these lights on before. I see the 2003 models were recalled for ths problem. What about my 2002 Toyota Sequoia?.

63 Equipment problem of the 2001 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 08/01/2019

Toyota rust issue on my 2001 Toyota Sequoia r5. My vehicle was originally used to transport children to and from practices and games twice a week. This past summer, I started driving it daily. I took my vehicle in for service because I kept hearing a knocking and my engine light was on. After taking it to the mechanic, we discovered it was an O2 sensor causing the engine light on, but also noticed extreme rust on the entire frame. The mechanic determined the vehicle was unsafe and recommended the entire frame be replaced as that knocking would cause the front half of the vehicle to separate from the back half and cause a serious issue. After talking to Toyota body shop, service department and a mechanic, I learned of a campaign that Toyota had issued. Toyota issued the campaign due to severe rust of its Toyota tundra but failed to offer the same coverage for Toyota Sequoia issued for 2001. The campaign that was issued was for 2005-2008 Sequoia, however my Toyota was made in 2001. Currently, my vehicle which transports my family, including young children has to sit until I can find $15,000-$17,500 to have it fixed by a Toyota dealership. At this point, I can not afford this, especially for a vehicle I purchased used last year. My mechanic and Toyota has deemed this vehicle unsafe. I'm requesting to have Toyota replace and fix the entire frame or buy the vehicle back from me so that I can purchase another vehicle that's safe, reliable and specious for my family. I would hope to have this issue expedited so I can continue transporting my family safely.

64 Equipment problem of the 2002 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 08/01/2019

An individual in oklahoma is trying to sell this vehicle with a rolled back odometer. I'm not sure if they are knowingly doing it but they are selling it as having 130000 miles when the last reported was 283000.

65 Equipment problem of the 2005 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 05/21/2019

2005 Sequoia class action, court ordered frame inspection & either repair or frame replacement. Never received notice of class action. Received letter stating vehicle needed to be inspected. Took to victory Toyota, canton, mi on Jan 5, 2018. Was told passed inspection & frame needed seal coating, did not have product. Vehicle was taken in multiple times, never completed the process. On may 6, 2019 the vehicle was taken to this dealership, a rental vehicle was provided and they did nothing and on may 21, 2019, noted the vehicle didn’t pass inspection & the campaign had expired! per service history report from another dealership, on may 21, (the 15th day they had they had vehicle in their possession), they noted the frame did not pass inspection, also noted the repair timeline expired and they did nothing; however, they were paid to do the job they never did. The frame should of been replaced. I have photos from 2016 showing holes in the frame. I took vehicle to two other dealerships, one inspected in fall 2019 & sent 3 photos to Toyota showing the frame rusted holes but stated once Toyota makes a decision, the never change their mind. Second local dealership printed detailed Toyota repair history report showing victory stated the vehicle did not pass inspection and that the timeline expired on the 16th day they had the vehicle!! the vehicle interior & exterior is in excellent condition but Toyota knowing refused to replace many of the frames, even though they knew the manufacturer had not made the frames correctly. Toyota has tons of money, clearly they don’t care about their product or customers safety.

66 Equipment problem of the 2004 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 04/21/2019

Yesterday my mechanic noticed that the frame underneath was all rusted and falling apart. That parts on frame could fall while I am driving. I took to Toyota dealer by where I live. They said that recalled had just expired. What a coincidence. Please help. I dont want to have an accident.

67 Equipment problem of the 2001 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 04/12/2019

My vehicle has significant frame rust throughout. In some areas, the rust has gone all the way through the frame and large chucks/flakes of rust are falling off. In addition, there is rust coming through the weld seams in many locations.

68 Equipment problem of the 2014 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 04/10/2019

I was driving on I-10 in louisiana (driving from texas to georgia) when I heard a loud gunshot noise. I pulled over and looked at my tires and around the body of the car and then looked up on the roof. The sunroof was shattered with a huge hole in the middle. I had a dog and 2 and 4 year old in my car. No overpasses or other cars around me. Nothing hit the car. It was a spontaneous shatter. No dramatic weather changes.

69 Equipment problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 04/02/2019

The trunk latch/handle/lock. I have had it replaced 3 times by a Toyota dealership. There's is clearly a manufacture defect and there's needs to be a recall. The last time the Toyota dealership I. Austin texas replaces it I had a 12 month warranty. In exactly 14 months the same thing occurred again! this is ridiculous to say the least and I am tired of paying 600 (parts/labor) to repair, when Toyota is aware of the problem! note: when the handle breaks there is no access to the spare tire because you have to life the trunk to access the spare time. I have had my vehicle towed twice scorn tire issues because the spare could not be accessed. The last occurrence I was stranded on side of the road at 2am.

70 Equipment problem of the 2004 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 03/20/2019

Entire frame assembly has rusted and vehicle is unsafe to drive. Toyota dealership, upon air bag recall fix, informed me of a recall or warranty repair for the Sequoia rusted frames. Toyota corporate claims they cannot do anything since the "recall' has expired. I never received a notification. Many others have this same issue and Toyota is fully aware of this problem and has recalled other model years for frame replacements. Does someone need to die before we get appropriate action?.
