36 Frame Rust problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 11/17/2017

I live in northern ky and I was driving west on ky 20. I was driving straight all of a sudden the front of the vehicle pulls right and the back pulls left . When I got the vehicle to safely stop I noticed the rear frame of the vehicle broke in half. It broke because it rusted in half. This could of killed me. Luckily no one was coming on the other side of the rd. My mechanic said the frame rusted in half. I bought this vehicle in 2015 im the second owner. I paid 6000 for the truck put 1200 in new wheels and another 2400 in safety and preventitive maintience at Toyota. I would not exspect this to occure. Especially when I had the vehicle safety inspected. No my options are to replace the frame or junk the vehicle. Either way im out big money on a truck I love. I thank god my great neices and nephew was not in the truck when the frame rusted through and broke. They were in there the day before. Im blessed we didnt get hurt that could have went very bad. I believe if I was on the interstate I would have got hurt or even killed. This vehicle rusting out that bad is not safe. Ive noticed manay others have complained about the frame rusting out too. This concerns me for many others that own this vehicle.

37 Frame Rust problem of the 2005 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 11/03/2017

I own a 2005 Sequoia 4 wheel drive limited edition . I received a letter from Toyota corporation regarding the rusting frame recall campaign on November 3,2017 and scheduled a service apt to have my frame inspected and was told the inspection takes approx. 2 hours . Within 30 minutes my truck was "ready " meaning the inspection was complete. I asked the service writer of the outcome and was told the frame was good. Nothing was written in my service order that was handed to me sign regarding findings, perforation or status of the inspection results, or that the inspection actually took place. The service writer told me verbally that another service writer would contact me in a few days to schedule a cleaning and spraying of the entire frame in a few weeks. I don't believe the tech removed my wheels to examine the frame or thoroughly inspected my vehicle . I am a 5 Toyota vehicle owner and explained that to the service writer. My service location is lakewood Toyota located in NJ, my service writer was angel burgos. I have extensive rust on my frame in numerous areas especially before the rear axle and after , in the area of the hitch assembly as well as the rear axle . I understand the criteria for replacing the frame versus a temporary covering of sealant . I understand that the frame on this type of vehicle is rusting from the inside due construction methods of the dana corporation being faulty in drainage design or manufacture. My concern that this product was not inspected properly and hastily attempted to get me out the door. This is not acceptable business practice to me.

The contact took the vehicle to butler Toyota (9419 aronson dr, indianapolis, in 46240, (317) 848-4210) several times to have the frame repaired; however, the air bags were repaired instead. This happened several times until the dealer stated that the settlement letter had expired. The contact stated that the frame was rusted from the inside out and was deteriorating rapidly. The dealer quoted a repair cost of $2,000 for an air suspension air bag that was not included in the recall. The cost to repair the frame was $3,000. The dealer did not include on the paperwork that the frame was the main reason the contact brought in the vehicle. The manufacturer stated that if the dealer had included the frame on the repair order, they would have taken care of the frame. The failure mileage was 230,000.

43 Frame Rust problem of the 2002 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 07/22/2017

I brought my 2002 Toyota Sequoia to my mechanic for an issue and he told me that my vehicle has severe rust on the frame and is not safe to drive. I called Toyota and was told that they can not help me. My mechanic said that Toyotas have a problem with this issue and his 2005 tacoma was repaired through a class action suit. I am terribly disappointed that Toyota will allow their customers to drive an unsafe vehicle. I have been researching on line and have found that indeed this is a problem. I hope that enough people complain so that and Toyota is forced to fix this problem before someone gets seriously injured.

47 Frame Rust problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 05/22/2017

Our vehicle was deemed unsafe to drive by a Toyota dealer due to an excessively rusted frame that has prematurely lost its integrity. The "limited service" campaign that was implemented by Toyota on our car (1/9/2013) was ineffective in preventing the disintegration of the frame of this vehicle. I have since learned that the frame on my vehicle was already known to be defective and it was recalled by Toyota for replacement on the Toyota tundra. Why then hasn't Toyota recalled the very same frame on the Toyota Sequoia on account of a known defective and unsafe frame?.

Frame has rusted through and has caused the structural integrity of the vehicle to become unsafe.

52 Frame Rust problem of the 2002 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 02/19/2017

Holes in the frame and excessive rust in the lift gate. This is a 2002 Sequoia which was in the rust belt from 2002 to 2011. In 2011 moved to louisiana. I had rust issues since I purchased the vehicle in 2002. In 2006, the lift gate window rusted out and could no longer use the lift gate window. Since then, more rust was developing in the lift gate and elsewhere. In 2013, I received the recall for the spare tire cable. The louisiana dealership identified that the mechanism was rusted and no longer functional. They ordered the replacement unit to install. In the meantime, I told them about the severe rust issues in the car. They did a rust inspection and said it passed. In 2014, I returned to the same louisiana dealership for the takata recall. At that time, I told them my concern regarding the rust, especially since the vehicle was in the rust belt atm least 4 months a year. They said the frame passed the rust inspection and provided me with an "operational flowchart" for frame rust. They also said that if I find a hold in the frame larger than 10mm, it would be taken care of. In 2015, the vehicle was in the rust belt about 7 months. That year I had to install 2x4 supports to hold up my lift gate window. In 2016, the vehicle was in the rust belt about 5 months. In February 2017, I found at least 1 rust hole in the frame as per their operational flowchart. When I asked the dealership about the rust hole, their comment was the recall was completed and there is nothing you can do. I spoke to Toyota and they stated that the recall was completed. I am totally disappointed in the ability of this vehicle to withstand rust. I am also driving a 1998 Ford that was in the rust belt longer than the 2002 Sequoia with no frame rust. The frame on this vehicle should not be rusting and needs to be properly repaired. See the attached photo.

53 Frame Rust problem of the 2006 Toyota Sequoia

54 Frame Rust problem of the 2001 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 01/16/2017

Frame rusted out and needed extensive repairs. Class action suit by Toyota admitted problems but excluded my model year. They recalled my car in 2012 but treated frame and denied liability when it completely rusted out. I have paid over $15,000 in repairs related to this rust.

56 Frame Rust problem of the 2006 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 12/01/2016

The frame, rear axle, suspension, brake lines components are severely rusted in particular the frame where it is rusting from the inside out. These frames suffer from the same issue as other Toyota trucks where Toyota replaced the frames. This rust condition makes these vehicles unsafe to be on the road. Toyota needs to recall of these vehicles before people are hurt. I purchased this vehicles new in 2006 and maintained it well. I addressed the external rust but can not prevent the internal rust. The frames need to be replaced or the vehicle brought back and disposed of.

57 Frame Rust problem of the 2004 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 11/23/2016

Totally rusted frame. Unsafe to drive. Never received a notice to replace a frame. Campaign ended on July 2014 . Now I stuck with unsafe vehicle which still has over 100,000 miles to drive. There suppose to be another action to replace the frame.

58 Frame Rust problem of the 2004 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 11/22/2016

The contact owns a 2004 Toyota Sequoia. While the vehicle was undergoing routine maintenance, the technician stated that the frame was severely rusted. 59 Frame Rust problem of the 2004 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 11/01/2016

Frame is rusting underneayh to the point where I have had to repair the vehicle control arm which rusted off and broke while driving. My tow hitch mount has rusted off. There are more than 5 spots along the frame where rust has perforated and the frame has visible signs of rot. I had a licensed garage inspect the frame and was told the vehicle is dangerous and that the frame should be replaced. I am having continuous problems with the suspension components rusting out.

60 Frame Rust problem of the 2005 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 10/25/2016

I took my Toyota in for an alignment. They took me out to look at it and the frame was so rusted that the swaybar had broken and was resting against the boot, which it ripped a hole in. The other side was eaten away with rust and ready to break at any moment. The whole frame from front to back was rusted. I took it to my local dealer and they declared it unsafe to drive. I called Toyota and they said there was no recall on mine. So they won't do anything. I still owe about $7000 on it and the way it is, has no resale value. I can't afford to buy anything else and shouldn't have to. This is not normal and they had to have used subpar metal on these frames. I am very fortunate that I wasn't in a wreck with dire consequences.

61 Frame Rust problem of the 2006 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 09/26/2016

Frame has rust corrosion causing 18 inch perforated hole in front frame of car. This is same problem that has warranted a recall of the Toyota tundra which uses the same frame. The car has been deemed unsafe to drive due to the extensive rust corrosion on the frame. This must be due to poor quality material and coating of the original frame. Through research appears to be a very common problem in Sequoia that are in areas dealing with road salt. The recall should be extended to include this model along with the tundra. The car is parked outside driveway and mostly local driving.

62 Frame Rust problem of the 2006 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 09/20/2016

Severe frame corrosion, 2006 Toyota Sequoia: I was unaware of the "cold weather states" frame corrosion problem with Toyotas (and recalls of older Sequoias and other Toyota trucks) until I took my '06 Sequoia to my local dealer for an airbag recall replacement and diagnosis of what I thought was a minor front end rattle. When they raised it on the lift, they said the vehicle behaved improperly and they were alarmed. That is when they discovered the large, rusted hole in the frame! what a shock it was when they told me, and then, to be advised that it is unsafe to drive! if I had not taken it in for the airbag recall, my family and I could be dead right now, if conditions had been just so. This is absolutely unbelievable that Toyota is putting peoples¿ lives in danger by not recalling all vehicles with this frame and standing by their product. Are they waiting for a death(s) to occur before they are forced to recall? they certainly know that other non-recalled models of Sequoia have frame rot. Presently, my local Toyota dealer is waiting for approval or disapproval to have the frame replaced free of charge. I am wary and left in constant worry if Toyota will help, based on the reports of other peoples' experiences whose vehicles were not recalled yet. I am faced with it being a total loss if Toyota does not choose to do the right thing. (this is their fault. They should fix it free of charge. Period. ) I bought this vehicle because of its reported reliability. I have been a 3 times loyal customer to Toyota and am in utter disbelief how I have been misled. Please push to have Toyota recall all Toyota Sequoias that have been made on this frame so that nobody else has to go through this unimaginable stress, and more importantly, before someone dies or is severely injured. Will my report be the final report that prompts a recall or this death trap? I hope so.

63 Frame Rust problem of the 2006 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 08/28/2016

The undercarriage is rusting badly to the point that I have found items that have rusted off the frame lying in my driveway after the car is parked. The inside of the rear hatch is rusted out beyond use. Car is well maintained and always in covered parking. Parts of the frame can be pulled off due ot the rust flaking and parts can be pulled off that should be bolted the car.

64 Frame Rust problem of the 2004 Toyota Sequoia

65 Frame Rust problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 08/13/2016

To whom it may concern, we are the original owners of a 2003 Toyota Sequoia. The vehicle has developed considerable frame rust damage over the years rusting through and creating a dangerous situation and has been deemed unsafe to drive by the Toyota dealer and other mechanics who have worked on the vehicle. Recently, I took it to penn Toyota, 2400 northern blvd, greenvale, NY 11548 for an oil change and the service manager there refused to put the vehicle on a regular lift because of fear of the frame collapsing (see attached service receipt). This is a family vehicle used with our 3 kids and we are extremely concerned for the safety of our family when driving it. The corrosion is so bad that areas of the frame have crumbled off and there are significan holes and cracks along the driver side of the frame including frame brackets and support sections. We have reached out to Toyota and they tell us there was no recall for this specific vehicle. However, there have been other frame recalls for similar models (see attached copy of warranty enhancement letter csd limited service campaign (lsc) csd certain 2001 through 2004 model year Sequoia vehicles frame inspection). We need to resolve this issue as soon as possible and are looking to Toyota for some assistance with this most important matter. We have been loyal Toyota customers and have enjoyed our Sequoia experience over the years and look forward to staying loyal customers and able to drive our car for many more years to come provided this issue is resolved to our satisfaction. Please see attached photos of the rusted frame showing the damage. Your assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated. Warm regards.

67 Frame Rust problem of the 2002 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 07/13/2016

Terrible rust on the frame, and underside of the vehicle. Toyota extended the rust through warranty, but didn't repair the issue since there was "no recall". This appears to be a problem for a number of production years for Toyota and their frames.

68 Frame Rust problem of the 2001 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 05/20/2016

Toyota 2001 Sequoia frame rot may 20th, I was driving with, my daughter. The car shook back and forth. I drove to our mechanic. They called saying the frame was horribly rusted and was not drivable. Said it was a miracle myself and child were not in a devastating, catastrophic, deadly situation that day. Toyota refuses to do anything about it.

69 Frame Rust problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 04/29/2016

I purchase this 2003 Toyota Sequoia in 2003 brand new and at the moment the frame is rusting at an alarming rate. I would like to know if the manufacturer (Toyota) is making any plans to rectifying this problem?.

70 Frame Rust problem of the 2004 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 03/15/2016

Took my 2004 Toyota Sequoia for service at ira Toyota of danvers massachusetts on 9/13/2012. Was notified that a recall regarding frame rust was also available and the frame needed to be inspected. Never received a letter in the mail and they informed me in person while at service that they will coat the frame in crc compound. Never even said if it was bad enough (which the photos show) that they will replace the frame. They did replace the spare tire carrier due to rust. A few years prior to 2012, payed 950$ at a local body shop to have the vehicle coated in an anti rust protection, still did not help. Have had a huge issue with rust development since buying the car brand new from ira Toyota of danvers in 2004. Since the crc was done, it has chipped away, rust is still very prevalent on frame/all over the vehicle. Have lost my front skid plate while traveling due to rust, exhaust, catalytic converter, multiple O2 sensors, heat shield, backing plate, front caliper, rear gate hinges, etc. Opened up a complaint with Toyota corporate. Said that they can do nothing and the crc isn't necessarily going to solve the problem, all other issues must be dealt with directly by the owner. Extremely unhappy and feel very unsafe in vehicle.
