36 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 04/14/2016

I have vsc trac, vsc off, and check engine. If you give it a lot of fuel, it just sounds like it wants to go, but it doesn't translate into power in the rear end. I use my code reader and it showed codes p1441 and p1444. Says I may have: a) faulty vacuum switching valve (vsv) for air injection control circuit, b)faulty air switching valve number 2, or c)faulty vsv for air injection system. This is the second time this happened to my Sequoia, and this seems to be a recurring issues for Toyota Sequoia owners and in fact it is a recurring issues for other models as well. This cost me approximately $2200 last time and now 2 years later it is back for another $2200 to repair. It's all the over the internet about this vsc trac, vsc off, and check engine, it needs to be recalled!.

37 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 04/01/2016

Hello, I have a 2003 Toyota sequioa where the engine light and the vcs lights are both on. I saw on your page some really helpful information on this make/model recall. I've reached out to Toyota customer service because there was a recall on this make/model but they said that my VIN number was not part of that recall, even though it's having the same issues?? the recall was that Toyota had to replace the skid control engine control unit (ecu) and upgrade program logic in its vehicle stability control (vcs) system. I took my vehicle in to get it inspected and they provided me with 3 codes: c1203 - engine control system communication circuit malfunction c1360 - vehicle skid control master pressure sensor malfunction p0420 - catalyst system efficiency below threshold these are all system issues. Can you help me?.

38 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 03/15/2016

I get constant warning lights for brake, vsc and trac. This is a very common problem with the Sequoia. It shuts down those safety features.

39 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2002 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 02/17/2016

The vsc/abs indicator lights appear intermittently without any warning. The car beeps, makes a heavy grinding noise and the abs brakes are automatically engaged without any action by the driver regardless of the speed, or whether driving on a highway or city street. The car will fishtail. Based on my research, I have found that this is a common problem among these vehicles and that there was a 2003 recall for this problem. This defect in the same model for the 2002 vehicles seems to be widespread. Must we first have an accident to win rights to be accommodated. Does Toyota not want to make good on its product and satisfy all owners/customers. I worry every time I drive my vehicle and thank god each time I reach my destination without incident. This is the only vehicle we have to drive our severely disabled 10 year old daughter and cannot afford a new vehicle. . Read more...

42 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2002 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 12/15/2015

I have a problem with my trac and vsc light coming on while driving. The stability light would blink and beep and both the trac off and vsc light would come on. The brakes would also seem like it's grinding when the stability light is blinking and beeping. I have the exact same problem as this guy on this video https://youtu. Be/vgearn4nito.

43 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 11/11/2015

When turning corners in motion, the traction control light illuminates causing a loss of braking and acceleration. There is now way to control the vehicles acceleration/deceleration until the light goes off. Typically last about 3-5 seconds. This happens frequently every time the vehicle is driven.

44 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2012 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 11/10/2015

The contact owns a 2012 Toyota Sequoia. While driving at approximately 15 mph, the brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle accelerated without warning. While driving 60 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle decreased in speed. The contact pulled over and turned the ignition to the off position. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.

45 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2002 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 11/06/2015

The brakes of the car ,and we I drive I can't drive more than 80 miles pr hour because it checks. I fixed the brakes and the light stay on for ever now every time I have to remember to take the foot brake.

46 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2006 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 11/06/2015

While driving at 35 mph, the check engine light, vsc off light, and vsc trac light all came on at once, and the vehicle stopped accelerating, and I experienced a dramatic decrease in vehicle power. I drove the vehicle home noticing a drastic change in acceleration as the Sequoia would not accelerate normally; it would accelerate at a significantly reduced rate, topping out at 35mph on the flats and 16 mph on an incline, in addition, during start up, the engine makes a high-pitch vacuum noise, which drops off and normal engine sound returns. I have had the car diagnosed; error codes p2440, p441 and p444 are all present indicating a failure of the air injection pump. This is a known problem on Toyota Sequoias and tundras; however, Toyota has only acknowledged it on the 07-10 Sequoia by extending the warranty to 10 years and 150,000k miles for this part. It is clear from other posts on the NHTSA website and others that this problem also exists with the 2004-07 Sequoias as well. This is a safety issue that needs to be addressed before someone is injured, or worse yet killed.

47 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 10/22/2015

Was driving and vehicle slowed down to about 35 40 mph and would not accelerate pass 40. Was in motion on a city street.

48 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 10/01/2015

Skid control ecu issues. I have read enough about this that it is unreal that a recall for the 2004 seqouia has not been issued. Why for the 2003 with same issue but not '04? why isn't Toyota being held accountable?.

49 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2002 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 10/01/2015

Identical problem as described by many others. Vsc-trac and trac-off lights randomly illuminated on dry, level pavement when brakes were applied, causing a loud grinding noise (much louder than normal application of anti-lock brakes), and car pulled and would not stop no matter how hard the brake pedal was pressed. First couple times, brakes were applied to slow the vehicle in traffic, so the failure to fully stop wasn't noticed. This now happens consistently whenever I drive and does not matter how fast or slow I am going. These failures clearly put vehicles at risk of accidents, and it is difficult to understand why the 2003 Sequoias were recalled for vsc issues, but not the 2002, when the parts being replaced fit both years. I have only had the vehicle for 2 years with 140,000 miles.

50 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 09/01/2015

While driving at 35 mph, the check engine light, vsc off light, vsc trac light, and the emergency brake light all came on at once, and the vehicle stopped accelerating, and I experienced a dramatic decrease in vehicle power. I drove the vehicle home noticing a drastic change in acceleration as the Sequoia would not accelerate normally; it would accelerate at a significantly reduced rate, topping out at 35mph on the flats, 30 mph on an incline, I was able to reach 70mph going down hill on a highway. Since that day, during start up, the engine makes a high-pitch vacuum noise, which drops off and normal engine sound returns. All dashboard lights are normal, until 10-15 seconds after start, when the vsc off/vsc trac/brake lights all illuminate, and remain on until the engine is turned off and the poor acceleration and decrease power are now the norm. This is a very dangerous safety issue should this happen to someone accelerating out of an intersection, or needing more power on a highway.

51 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2001 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 08/31/2015

The vehicle skid control randomly engages for no reason. It causes lost of power and braking, causing steering to be very difficult.

53 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 06/17/2015

Tl-the contact owns a 2003 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated that while driving at 15 mph, the contact heard an abnormal noise coming from the brakes. The vehicle started to decelerate on its own. In addition, the contact was going 70 mph and the same abnormal noise happen and the vehicle decelerated. This was a recurring failure. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician stated that more information was needed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000. Kc.

54 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2001 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 05/20/2015

My 2001 Sequoia was in an accident in November 2014. It was totaled but I decided to have it repaired as it was in great running condition prior to accident. It had been running fine to around may when the vsc went off while I was driving around a curve making me almost lose control of the car. The same thing would happen intermittently with a slight jerk of the car to the left. On June 25th there was a very violent jerk to the left while I was driving with my boys. Took it to a dealership on 6/27/15 and was told it was the yaw rate sensor. Dealership re-calibrated and it ran fine for 2 days. On 6/29/15 there was another violent jerk of the truck with the vsc lights coming on. I called the dealership and they instructed me to bring it back in. Took truck in on 6/30/15 and was told I would need to repair the yaw rate sensor since the recalibration did not work. I was given an estimate of $746. 29 for replacement and this was taking into account the $108 I spent on 6/27/15. Told the repairman I would investigate further and would get back with him. As I was pulling out of the dealership going less than 5 mph, the truck jerked violently again almost slamming me into the car in the left lane. With the high mileage of the truck I do not want to spend an absorbent amount of money for repairs. As these sensors have reportedly had reports of multiple malfunctions in the past based on my research, I am not even sure that having it replaced would even fix the problem and if it did, would I be faced with the same problem a few months down the road when the new sensor goes bad. I can not believe that Toyota or the government would allow this type of malfunction which is life-threatening to go on unresolved. Is it really going to take the loss of lives as in the case of the airbags before something is done? help!.

55 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2002 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 05/14/2015

The first time my abs/vcs trac lights came on was after I had to brake hard on a downward hill. I accelerated to climb the other side of the hill and it was after doing that which the vcs trac and trac off lights first came on at around 168,000 miles. There was a fast beeping sound lasting for maybe 10 sec then it regained power. Now it will do it within just a few miles of our home. We have had several more occasions since this initial incident where there was a jerking/pulling of the right front tire. Also the air conditioning would come on and off like it was trying to surge. Also idles very low, below 500 rpm and then finally shuts off. This vehicle has become very dangerous to drive. We are not sure what to get fixed on it since we have read that other owners are being told that its anything from a yaw sensor, steering angle sensor, brake booster system, or a skid control computer issue. All of these are very pricey to get fixed and there are no guarantees that they will even correct the problem. Most have had the yaw sensor replaced and it did not correct the problem. Some of the mechanics we have talked to said that there could be brake dust or mud and road grime build up over the sensor making it malfunction and that it should be hosed off at an underbody carwash. We haven't tried this yet since we didn't put much faith in it until we discovered hearing again on youtube. The 2003 Toyota Sequoia vcs recall should be extended down to the 2002 models as well. We all are having the same issue that they did.

56 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 05/11/2015

Within the first two weeks, after purchasing the vehicle, the "brake" light, "vsc trac" light, and "trac off" light came on and there was a terrible grinding sound when attempting to stop. It was very hard to stop but luckily I was in a parking lot when it happened the first time. The "brake" light has continued to come on multiple times per week since may of 2015 and the other two lights still come on occasionally. In fact, on my 800 foot drive back from picking up my lunch today, the "brake" light was on. Each time the other 2 come on, it causes the breaks to grind and it is very hard to stop. There was just over 120,000 miles on the vehicle at purchase. I have read numerous forums online stating issues with this model, 2004, and 2003 models for the same issue but Toyota has refused to do a recall and expects customers to pay for something is obviously an issue throughout these particular models. I think something needs to be done about this issue. I believe it is a safety concern Toyota needs to be responsible for!!!.

57 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2001 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 05/02/2015

My 2001 Toyota Sequoia violently experienced a vsc trac error when driving next to a semi on the freeway. It almost pulled my car into the semi, and then off the road as the wheel jerked, brakes and engine response cut significantly. This highway issue happened last month, and just this week, the problem has become more frequent, occurring on neighborhood streets with absolutely no triggers. The steering wheel sometime shakes, and sometime pulls suddenly. It occurs sometimes during a slow turn, but is also happening just driving at 25 miles an hour down a straight road.

58 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2011 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 04/21/2015

While approaching a red light I applied brake my truck but instead my Sequoia thrust forward causing me to hit the car stopped at the light in front of me, causing damage to both vehicles.

59 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2001 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 03/13/2015

When the gas peddle is depressed the car will not go! I've almost been in 2 accidents due to it!.

60 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 02/16/2015

I have a '04 Sequoia 4wd ltd, my vsc trac, vsc off and abs lights come on and stay on, they never go off. The visit to a dealer ended with them stating that they could not read any codes, so the vsc computer needs to be replaced, about $1,500. 00 total. The car is not experiencing any problems, but, the lights stay on. . . . . Sequoia has 83k miles. Anyone offer any advice or help to solve the problems?.

61 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2002 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 10/06/2014

Vehicle makes a sputtering noise at acceleration and coasting speed. Even at stop. Sounds like a misfire and thud at some points. Causes a loss in power and jerk.

62 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

Trac off, vsc trac ,engine light came on. . . Trouble code was p1444 (secondary air injection system switching value stuck). . . Vehicle had problems accelerating. Repairman indicated that the air injection pump/check values needed to be replaced and very expensive. Based on other reports it appears that this is a frequent occurrence and vehicles shutting down on interstates. Others have said that Toyota knows about this but won't issue an extended warranty, but offers for newer vehicles . Owned several Toyotas before this. . . This could be a deal breaker for future Toyotas.

63 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2002 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 08/13/2014

Driving on paved public road, dry road conditions in summertime at low speed,10-20 mph, the vsc and trac off warning lights on instrument panel light up with and audible bell type alarm at the same time the right front wheel makes a loud thump causing the vehicle to pull hard to the right and with very hard front end vibration. At which time there is no brake control, steering control or acceleration control for approximately 20 seconds that has caused a few near miss vehicle collisions with other vehicles or off the road towards an embankment. The Sequoia was taken to a Toyota dealership service center where the technician stated they can only clear the fault code in the vehicle's computer. Since the fault code has been cleared, 5 more episodes of the same identical senerios with both wet and dry road conditions but not standing water on the roadway, and also a couple of times during speeds between 60-70 mph. This is an intermittent anomaly, but happens 3-4 days in a row between instances.

64 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 07/23/2014

The vsc off/ trac off and check engine and brake light all came on. The brake started to jump and the car pulled hare to the left. I turn the car off and back on the problem went a way but the lights all came back on. However there are a lot of people having this problem with their Sequoia and I have seen no safety recall for this.

65 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2002 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 07/15/2014

The contact owns a 2002 Toyota Sequoia. While driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle jerked and veered to the left as the vsc warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the yaw rate sensor needed to be reset. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 115,000.

66 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 07/10/2014

Sometimes while driving on freeway my brakes light warning on the dashboard would come on and would only turn off the light if I turn off the engine. Many times on street speed (10-45 mph) if the vsc, track off and brake light comes on at the same time, the car will loose power on the brakes and will have a grinding and vibrating noise. I went to a Toyota dealer and told me bring the car when it happen again so they could do a diagnostic test. Why wait for something serious to happened before they could check my car?.

67 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2002 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 07/02/2014

While traveling down the interstate at 65 mph on a flat, even surface under good weather conditions, the vehicle stability control unexpectedly engaged, the vsc trac and trac off lights illuminated. The vehicle's brakes engaged, the steering began to pull to the right, a grinding noise occurred, and the vehicle became very difficult to control. This is not the first time this has happened. The last time was approximately 3 weeks ago (also highway travel at 65+mph). Before that, it had been a while. This seems to be a completely random occurrence. However, this poses a serious problem and with two small children, it is extremely concerning. Based on what I've read, this is common in this model year vehicle. Not sure why a recall has not been made.

68 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 07/01/2014

Vsc trac, vsc off, brake, abs lights. . . All on, all at once. This has happened several times now. It comes on for a couple of days and then resets itself no codes found. This time it came on again and limited the speed to about 35mph while my wife was driving on a major highway. She was able to get it back home safely thank goodness. I have been reading about similar cases for this model and do not know what to do. Please help. We have just had it serviced about a month ago for timing belt replacement etc. This is my wife's primary vehicle and I can't afford to put any more money in this. Is there a recall for this with so many cases of the same issue I have read about?.

69 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2002 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 06/07/2014

I had this vehicle serviced at tom scott Toyota in nampa, idaho. The standard 120k. Prior to this I had them do some basic services, and they seemed to always make mistakes. Once their mechanics sent me out on the road without replacing the correct amount of motor oil. In this instance they had serviced my transmission fluids, and all other 120k requirements. I drove away and the engine light came on immediately. I returned they said it was a transmission solenoid. They reset it, it was running fine. Then the light came on again. They claimed it needed the solenoid replaced. After a week the light went off and did not return. 2 days ago, the vsc off, vsc trac, and check engine lights all came on. There is a crinkly noise, like foil crinkling when I accelerate. This is intermittent. I took it to a mechanic they said the entire transmission is bad. $4000. There are enough forums and posts worldwide for this transmission that you should require a recall. Clearly Toyota manufactured a transmission that is not built correctly.

70 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2001 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 06/05/2014

While driving at 60 mph the vehicle pulled sharply to the right and its trac/vcs control lights began to blink and the warning sound came on as well. The vehicle made a grinding sound and I pulled over to the side of the road. I shut the car off and waited a few minutes. I turned on the vehicle and the indicator lights were off and it drove normal. This same incident continues to happen even after I took it in to get diagnosed. I was told by a Toyota technician that he could not find the problem.
