1 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 10/16/2016

The contact owns a 2004 Toyota Sienna. While driving approximately 55 mph, the contact heard a loud noise and lost steering control. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and towed to the contact¿s residence. The vehicle was later taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the crankshaft pulley failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 96,321.

2 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 2001 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 05/02/2010

I have a Sienna le 2001. 118,000 miles. We have been the only owners since we bought it. We have no perfect record of oil changes but we have done it periodically. About 3-4 months ago, it was running ok, but it blew out white-ish/ blue-ish smoke occasionally (usually when first starting, it didn't seem to make a difference if it was hot or cold). It also had little and occasional power loss when accelerating from a stop. I took it to the dealer where we bought it, and they said they just took off the top cover of the engine and it looked like it was gummed up with oil. I have changed the pcv valve, I took it to a place for an oil and oil filter change, I am concerned the damage will continue to the engine. The dealer said I need a new engine, costing around $8000. I asked a second opinion of the mechanic that has worked on our cars, and he thinks he would need to take apart the engine and figure out he problem, costing around $2000-$3000, he also mentioned the possibility of a new motor. Honestly, I do not recall receiving information about the "special policy adjustment" from Toyota or dealer regarding check-replace the engines that are or could be damaged from sludge. I will appreciate your input and support.

3 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 2006 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 03/14/2008

One of the front engine oil seals failed while the vehicle was being driven in local traffic causing all of the engine oil to be pumped out onto the hot engine and exhaust emptying the crankcase in little more than 1 minute. I pulled into a gas station and opened the hood to investigate the smoke and smell of burning oil. The oil on the hot exhaust ignited and was quickly extinguished with the stations garden hose.

4 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 2000 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 02/25/2004

2001 Toyota Sienna had sludge problem. Toyota fixed but still calls this an owner issue!?? have seen complaints that these engines have still failed a couple thousand miles after fix. Toyota originally insisted people buy new engines but only cleans them now. What about their modifying this engine starting in July 2001? no problems with those engines. This v6 is in 9 models over 6 years and somehow it's the owners? they replaced my valve covers stating the pcv system is inetgrated into the valve covers. They get clogged and can't be cleaned. Will it take an engine seizing up due to engine failure at highway speeds, and a fatality to get Toyota's attention on this? I never received their "letter" of notification. I had owned it brand new off the lot. I can't afford to keep a ticking financial time bomb in my garage.

6 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 1998 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 07/01/2001

Began issuing blue smoke at startup at about 52000 miles. Dealer finds sludge in engine, refuses to repair under warranty, citing lack of maintenance. Vehicle has had regular oil changes, and an older vehicle (Ford escort) in identical service with same maintenance schedule has no problems. Believe that the failure is due to defective engine crankcase ventilation system design, and that failure is leading to emissions in excess of legal limits.
