1 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2011 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 08/15/2019

Oil cooler hose: from my experience, and from what I've read from others, this is a considerable safety issue. A recall would be very appropriate for both road safety and for consumer protection. A suspected blown cooler line just happened to me last night, and I was very distracted when I realized my 2011 Toyota Sienna (about 125k miles) went from providing normal responsiveness to giving incomprehensible feedback within seconds. A "low oil" message flashed once on the center console as I was pulling out of a gas station into traffic. This light did not return. No other lights lit up at any time. Immediately, however, I noticed hesitation when trying to accelerate. I thought that it was an electrical problem at that point, perhaps it was affecting the fuel injectors. Then I noticed a clicking noise coming from the engine. At that point, I pulled over at the next safest opportunity and turned off the vehicle. I popped the hood and noticed oil everywhere toward the bottom of the engine compartment/underside of the vehicle. The dip stick was dry. This all happened within 0. 75 miles on a two lane state highway (one lane in each direction) with a 55 mph speed limit. I certainly wasn't driving defensively during this time, and I had very minimal awareness of any vehicles around me. The acceleration issue could have been catastrophic if I had tried to beat traffic that was far enough away to proceed, yet close enough to think twice. Fortunately, I'm not an aggressive driver, and I waited. The whole experience has baffled me as I've never experienced such a complete and sudden failure while driving a vehicle. Please consider this report and review the numerous online reports from drivers who also experienced a sudden, massive oil leak while driving their 2007-2011 Toyota Siennas. Toyota is well aware of this recurring issue. A safety recall would seem appropriate.

2 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2007 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 04/10/2017

I was told today that my cooler hose ruptured and I had to take it immediately to a auto repair shop. I was driving to work and the car started making a clicking noise and felt weird to drive. I got to work and was told to check the dip stick. Was told it sounded like I had no oil. I was thinking, that wouldn't be right I just got an oil change about a week earlier. It was bare. Completely empty. I then proceeded to get it to a repair shop as it was an emergency. The auto place told me that it needed a kit that they would have to buy to replace the cooler hose and would take awhile to fix this. It would be the only way to fix this. And they cant guarantee me the engine didnt get effected by this situation. I did my research on this issue and it is extremely dangerous and expensive. I am now out $500 and half a day at work. I was driving to work at 7:15am on highway 44 going about 45-55 miles an hour. It was terrifying and once I got to my work and realized that my van could have stopped on me in the middle of traffic whenever it wanted to this morning or the engine could have blown up and cause a real accident. This is a serious danger to me and people around me. I had no clue I was in danger, I had no idea that my van was messed up. There were no signs, no problems, no anything. It just out of nowhere drained the oil. I drive 35-45 miles to work. I wish I would have known about a "recall" on this. I wouldn't have had it checked way before.

3 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2008 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 07/09/2014

Upon exiting freeway in butte, mt, and slowing done for red light at bottom of ramp, heard tapping noise coming from engine. Drove one block to gas station, and while pumping gas, noticed large quantity of engine oil puddling under the engine. Had vehicle towed to Toyota dealer, who determined that oil cooler hose had ruptured. Fortunately, no apparent engine damage. After some research on Sienna owners' forum, learned that this was a recurring problem on certain Toyota models in certain years, including the 2008 Sienna with tow package like ours, and that Toyota had put out a TSB on this, but apparently had never informed owners. It took 4 days for the replacement hose to arrive, and the repair cost $520. This incident occurred while my family was far from home (silver spring, MD) on a cross-country trip and thus forced them to cancel part of vacation and spend extra $$ on hotels and a rental car. But it could have been much worse - the oil could have drained while at speed on the highway, ruining the engine, stranding my family in an isolated area or causing an accident or engine fire and possible injuries. Given that Toyota was aware of the problem, it could have informed us so we could have had the hose replaced before it failed.

4 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2009 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 04/01/2011

I have a 2009 Toyota Sienna with about 37800 miles on the engine. This is a certified pre-owned Toyota and I bought it with approximately 33000 miles on it in November of 2010. At about 37000 I noticed a ticking noise coming from the engine at idle. It starts after the engine warms up; mostly after driving about 15 minutes. I took it to a Toyota dealer for a diagnosis and the dealer stated they heard it and it's only normal engine sound. There is a TSB 0094-09 that addresses the issue. However, my vehicle does not fall within the affected production change effective VIN according to the Toyota dealer. As a matter of fact my Sienna was manufactured about 2000 vehicles after the affected production change effective VIN. I believe the problems related to TSB 0094-09 still exist beyond the affected vins in the TSB. Toyota should really fix these problems. The engine loud ticking noise that is easily noticed is not normal.

5 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2008 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

Early am on 6/1/10 I was driving to my cabin in the country and heard a soft popping sound, stopped my car and smoke began flowing out all opening around the hood, when I looked under the car I saw fire falling to the road. I went to the passenger side and opened the door only to find that area filled with toxic fumes, shutting the door I realized all was hopeless except to get away from the vehicle. Within seconds my car was engulfed in flames. I ran as fast as I could to get help. Had I been less alert, inactive, less proactive I would have probably died. The car was purchased new in Nov, 2008 and had a little over 10,000 miles. There was no smell of fuel or another strange odor. The car was burned totally, with nothing remaining except the steel frame.
