1 Engine Stall problem of the 2010 Toyota Sienna

Toyota Sienna 2010 minivan engine stalls while driving. When driving on highway or on city roads, engine stalls and looses engine power for a few seconds (seemingly happens when shifting gears) when accelerated or decelerated. The engine basically stalls during driving and may lead to sudden vehicle slowness in middle of traffic. The suspected problem advised by Toyota is with transmission and the original cost estimate was $5100 to fix that. Later after discussing with Toyota it was lowered to $3800 (approx) and Toyota warranty support was ready to pay (absorb) $2000 and $1800 to be paid by the customer. Even after initial repair and payment of ($1800+tax) $2166 the vehicle still have the same symptoms and issues. Presently the vehicle is under repair with the dealer (fremont Toyota, CA). The vehicle use was normal, regular city/highway usage, well maintained single owner. Nothing heavy was towed and used in rough or abnormal conditions. If possible ntsb needs 1. To look into this model of vehicle and see if there are other reported problems with Sienna 2010 engines. 2. To investigate why this vehicle have this issue within 46,847 miles. 3. Can manufacture bills the entire cost of repair, since this seems a major design or engine issue with this model of vehicle. 4. Advise to issue a safety notice to all Toyota Sienna 2010 v6 engine model owners since this can be disastrous in middle of traffic and can cause accidents/problems to all on the road.

2 Engine Stall problem of the 2011 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 02/28/2014

The contact owns 2011 Toyota Sienna. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the engine stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who performed a diagnostic and determined that the battery failed and caused the vehicle to stall. The battery was replaced however the dealer could not explain the cause of the battery failure. Additionally, the contact stated that the engine was previously replaced due to failed springs which caused the valves to also fail. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 31,312 and the current mileage was, 31,800.

3 Engine Stall problem of the 2008 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 07/29/2011

The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Sienna. While driving approximately 65 mph, the engine stalled with the illumination of the entire instrument panel. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician was unable to detect a trouble code. The malfunction occurred six times on the same day. The engine restarted each time the failure occurred and the vehicle was taken to a different dealer who could not locate a problem. 4 Engine Stall problem of the 2002 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 07/06/2004

Engine was replaced because of an accumalation of sludge which developed in the base of the motor. Then, engine stalled. This was the third engine replacement.

5 Engine Stall problem of the 1999 Toyota Sienna

A design flaw in the engine caused the engine to develop sludge, this is when the oil turns into a thick tar like goop that clogs the engine a oil systems, when the vehicle was take to the dealer it was stated that the only cause was improper maintenance which voids the customers warranty, there was no warning or indication that the engine as about to be damaged, the consumer had to have a new engine installed in their new vehicle.
