1 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2007 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 04/10/2015

On 4/10/15, I took the vehicle to motor imports service center for prearranged warranty service work on the vehicle. Motor imports declined to perform the warranty work, alleging that the vehicle was "too dirty" to perform, even though at least two of the recalls would involve no area of the interior. With respect to the interior, the shift assembly was allegedly "blocked" by a newspaper on the console, as well as pens in the ashtray and cd's in the console, and for this, they claimed they could not preform the work. In addition to the above recalls, they were to inspect the dashboard for a fourth recall involving premature degradation of the assembly, which they declined to perform as well.

2 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2006 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 07/04/2007

Issue: my 2006 Toyota Sienna's ventilation system heats up even if setting at cold level. It caused the interior of the van to heat up uncontrollably and could cause heat exhaustion during hot summer days. The unwanted heat was traced from heat at the engine compartment enter the passenger cabin through the ventilation system. Due to insufficient insulated area at the engine compartment to the passenger compartment. It is extremely dangerous for young children in the vehicle during hot summer time. We noticed the issue during one of our summer vacation in 2007. We were stuck in heavy traffic for more than 15 minutes. Outside temperature was at a comfortable 75 degree, but the interior of vehicle feels like 90 degree. The air coming from the air vent is hot. I did some research on this issue, it turns out that Toyota fixed this issue on 2008 and later vehicles by adding insulation pad between the engine compartment and ventilation system. However, the Toyota dealership refuse to provide the fix to my van.

3 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2001 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 03/15/2003

I am sending this letter to express concern relative to the safety and usability of our 2001 Toyota Sienna Mini van. We have had continued problems with the van that has been addressed with the dealer (kenny kent Toyota in evansville, in) as well as Toyota. The engine is our brand new van had gelling issues to due manufacture?s defects. The problems are continuing to date. In the manufacture?s response it states that Toyota offered goodwill assistance to us for the engine gelling. (this happened to a brand new van). It also states that this was not covered under warranty. Toyota said that this was a warranty issue and it is also listed as warranty in Toyota documentation. According to the owner?s warranty information book, the basic warranty is 36 months or 36,000 miles and the power train warranty is 60 months or 60,000 miles. The defect with the engine based upon the warranty as stated in Toyota?s warranty information book states that all repairs and adjustments needed to correct defects in materials and workmanship of any part supplied by Toyota is covered. In the manufacture?s response it states that the vehicle is not exhibiting any warrantable nonconformities that substantially impair the use, value or safety of the vehicle. Unfortunately this statement is not true. We have continued to have extreme electrical problems with the van. These problems are continuing to date following Toyota?s attempts to repair the engine. On one occasion my wife and my six-year old daughter were in the van alone when the van refused to start. It was a 90+-degree day. Toyota service cannot find the cause and problems continue. The engine doesn?t have the power it did prior to the repairs, the valves clatter very loudly and the engine makes a chugging sound when it idles. We now have a new van that for lack of any word has been butchered. The value of the vehicle has been drastically diminished. Noble jones 801 s. Parkway henderson, ky 42420 270-826-2801.

4 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 1999 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 03/28/2002

At 44,000 miles we had to have our cylinder reground and this shouldn't happen. We changed oil every 5,000 miles like the owner's manual said. This is ridiculous that it should happen at all! this is a faulty engine. We should have recieved a new engine under warranty, not had the damned cylinders reground. Now, they're telling us to change oil every 3,000 miles! what is going on? we've owned Toyotas since 1969 and never had a problem with them--and certainly not something like this. This is poor quality of the engine and Toyota should give us a new and improved engine to replace this one.

5 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 1998 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 08/13/2000

Loud bang from egine followed by fire. Dealer says engine threw a rod and found hole in engine. Also damage to right axle from projectile from engine. Complained about white smoke at startup to dealer at 22,500 mile service, but dealer found no problems. Now dealer refuses to honor warranty claiming that sludge is in engine. When I had similar smoke problem with 1998 Toyota camry, dealer advised that the valve seals were defective and replaced the valve seals and gasket under warranty. Internet serches have revealed at least one and possibly as many as three other similar engine failures due to sludge after complaints were made to the dealer of white smoke at startup. I also found multiple reports of engine failure assoiciated with white smoke at startup when doing searches regarding the camry. When I went to dealer to remove articles from the van after it was towed, the service advisor pointed out the left rear tire, on which approximately 10-12 inches of the tread had separated from the body of the tire. This is firestone fr 680 tire with less than 30,000 miles on it. The tire was checked and was fine prior to out trip to pick up out eight year old daughter from summer camp. The engine failure and fire and the separation of thread of the tire occurred after we had driven for approximately 2 hours in 100 degree plus temperatures while returning from the camp. Local police and fire department was called to the scene. ( dot number: ).
