The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken in for a seat belt repair under a manufacturer recall. The contact was notified by the mechanic that the vehicle passed the rust test. A month later, the contact took the vehicle to a mechanic for a tire rotation and was informed that there was severe rust on the subframe. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 92,000.
The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The contact noticed that the subframe was rusted and cracked. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the subframe needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the undercoating fractured. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
I received a rusty frame recall from Toyota on my 2006 Toyota Tacoma,so I set up a appointment with bryan easler Toyota at hendersonville,n. C. I took my 2006 Tacoma in to bryan easler Toyota, they checked it for rusty frame recalland was told they would turn in the results to Toyota. I received information later that my 2006 Tacoma passed the rusty frame recall, and thinking to myself that was great news. A few weeks later when changing the oil I was broken hearted at finding big holes as big as my hand in the main frame of my 2006 Tacoma that I have took special care of with only 112,000 miles, and this is my second new Toyota bought from bryan easler Toyota. The rusty frame recall was not checked correct, and the case manager was contacted with a reply that the rusty frame recall has ende, but now I have a very unsafe vehicle that might brake at anytime to cause wreck or death??????????(sending some pictures please check thanks).
Toyota Tacoma rusty frame, unsafe,Toyota not fixing (unsafe-frame breaking into--cause loss of control--crash big rusty holes in vehicle frame.
The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that the chassis and frame had premature rust and corrosion. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer refused to provide a manufacturer's service campaign for the frame. The vehicle was included, but the contact was informed that the statute had expired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and indicated that the statute for the manufacturer's service campaign had expired. The contact was uncertain when the vehicle would be repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 195,000.
I have a 2006 Tacoma that I bought used and it had the limited service campaign e0d (under coating) applied over the rusting frame and was told that Toyota will not replace the frame even when it rots through. This is very unsafe and Toyota should be held liable for this and forced to replace the frame.
This is a known frame rusting problem that Toyota has not addressed properly. I took my 2006 Toyota Tacoma to the service dealer and they sprayed an anti rust compound on it. The problem is that the frame is totally rusted out and is going to be a safety issue later down the road. Toyota reached a settlement with the frame manufacturer, they did not properly coat the frame at time of manufacture. There is not a warranty on the corrosion compound after the corrosion campaign is over in March of 2016. This leaves the consumer with a truck that is not road worthy. I replaced the release bearing in my transmission, while working on it rust was literally falling in my eyes due to the amount of rust on the frame. I have never seen a frame rust out so quickly and am very disappointed that Toyota knows there is an issue but is covering it up with a thick tar like substance to "remedy" the problem. This is just covering up a down the road safety issue that should be addressed by Toyota immediately by replacing the frame. 1995 through 2000 Tacoma trucks were bought back. 2001 through 2004 received anti corrosion compound and or frame replacement. The difference is that those trucks that received the compound received a 15 year extended warranty if the frame were to fail inspection down the road. Not the case with the 2005 and up Tacomas.
I own a 2006 Toyota Tacoma prerunner, purchased new from the dealer eight years ago. In less than six years, the car’s frame started showing damages and today it shows severe rust and flaking. The severe rust under the car is widespread and in certain areas there are perforations through the frame structure. (see pictures attached). Because of this unexpected condition my Tacoma has lost considerable resale value and is resting in my driveway for fear of further damage and safety issues. (I have two small children). After some research I became aware that Toyota has acknowledged that this excessive rusting is due to a manufacturing defect and addressed the problem for some vehicle owners by either replacing the frame at no cost for the owners or buying the vehicles back. I took the car to the Toyota dealer to have it assessed and after a full inspection, the truck failed the rust frame inspection. The Toyota dealer report states as follows: “frame was found to have severe corrosion. Frame need to be replaced” with and rough estimate cost of $ 10,000. 00. I consider this defect to be a serious and unacceptable condition for a 8 year-old vehicle with Toyota’s reputation. I have invested and trusted the Toyota brand for over 20 years and feel very disappointed at how Toyota is addressing my concerns. I am asking your Toyota corporation to take my concerns seriously and to address this severe rust issue the same way you have done with 1995-2000 Tacoma owners, either by replacing my frame at no cost or buying back my vehicle.
Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that the frame was corroded. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician verified that the frame was rusted and there was a hole in the cross member. The vehicle has not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 25,000. Pam.
The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. While the vehicle was undergoing an unrelated repair, the technician noticed that the entire frame was rusted. The dealer replaced the entire frame. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 93,000.
Holes are rusting in the frame.
I have been experiencing significant rusting of my frame. I have complained to Toyota about it with little satisfaction. I also waiting excessively about rear leaf springs recall notices. Remedy taking too long. I also issues with TSB but Toyota placing burden on owner, not company.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the frame needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 90,983.
The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that upon inspection, it was found that frame was rusted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 145,000.
I noticed severe rust with holes rusting through the frame of my 2006 Toyota Tacoma. When I took it to Toyota dealer to have it checked the employees there would just shake their heads in disbelief. They told me that they took pictures, and they would send them to corporate. They also told me that it was still safe to drive but they wouldn't give me anything in writing. I am concerned about safety, frame is an important part of a vehicle, and with rust 1/4 of an inch thick flaking off allover the frame with holes rusting through I think I have a good reason. I have never seen such rust even on trucks 10 years older then this one. I did not get any response from Toyota corp. , and it has been over two months since Toyota mechanics looked at it. When you pay over $32, 000 for a truck, the frame should last bit longer before it turns into mud. I was not aware of their previous frame problems with earlier models at the time of purchase. However isn't it negligence when you recall a certain model years, and continue making newer models with the same problem. Doesn't anyone control these people. Especially when they put so many people in danger. This should give you general idea, because the more I think about it the more I get upset. Thank you.
Major frame rust issue. Frame is rusted to the point of perforation. Back on 6/23/14 Toyota advised spraying the undercarriage, which was done at a dealership repair order #0840463. Went back to have the leaf springs fixed due to recall and to have the frame inspected. Now the dealership says the frame rust recall expired in March of 2016 and it is out of their hands. Need to know how to get Toyota to fix the frame since the spraying did not rectify the problem and it continues to get worse.
My 2006 Toyota Tacoma has developed a significant amount of rust on the frame. I have documented the rust with pictures (can be provided). The rust is beyond normal vehicle wear, which is in fantastic condition otherwise. I contacted my local Toyota dealer to schedule an appointment for them to quickly look at it and determine if the rust is a manufacturer issue, since previous Tacomas up to 2004 were recalled or bought back due to frame rust. They stated the only way they would look at it would be if I paid a $115 diagnostic fee, and that since it isn't covered under a recall they wouldn't be able to do anything. They didn't offer any other options for me to consider. The Toyota frame rust program was identified in 2008, after my vehicle was purchased but not including 2006 Tacomas. The frame rust I have is clearly related to the same frame issues from previous years' Tacomas. Based on extensive online research, 2005-06 Tacoma (as well as tundra) owners are complaining at volume about rust issues as well, including their frames breaking in half, significant holes developing, spare tires falling off, and other related safety hazards. I do feel that this is a major safety issue for myself, my family, and others that are driving behind me on the highway. I wash my vehicle every so often and do not drive in adverse conditions. I have my vehicle regularly maintained at the local Toyota dealer, who have never said anything about my frame rust being abnormal after their inspections. I am willing to go to great lengths to protect my vehicle investment, my and my family's safety, and ensure the right thing is done. This includes public disclosure on Toyota's facebook page, repeated contact with the dealership, and exploring larger profile complaints and petitions. I would like my frame rust fixed (frame repaired, frame replaced, or bought back) by Toyota immediately.
Purchased my truck from the dealership and have always taken it in for the oil change with the dealer inspection tickets since it was purchased. In the last inspection I was informed that the brakes needed to be replaced. Took it to another shop where the lead mechanic informed me that my car was "unsafe" due to significant rust on the leaf springs and frame area bolts near the leaf springs. I called the dealership to ask how my car had gone through all of these inspections and I had never heard that my vehicle had "unsafe" levels of rust on the undercarriage. I was informed that they do not inspect the undercarriage ( !? ). When I asked for the best course of action, I was informed that a car with rust on the frame should be junked. I cannot believe I spent all that money for what I thought was a quality truck that is unsafe to drive.
Dreaded Toyota frame rust, the frame is rusting extensively and I am worried it will rust through. There have been numerous compliants but no action so far. Rust, rust, rust. . . If it is a Toyota, it will rust.
Took truck into dealer for service and was informed that the frame had rusted to the point that there was now a hole in it. Contacted Toyota via phone and email and was told on both occasions that there was not a "program" in place to assist owners with this problem. Previous replacement program covered Tacomas made from 1998-2004 that exhibited the same issues, premature rusting/corrosion of the trucks' fames. My limited research has shown numerous cases where the frames of the truck corrodes to the point that it is unsafe to drive. . Read more...
Brought my Tacoma in for regular maintenance. Mechanic pointed out that there is severe rot/rust on the frame. There is severe flaking in several different areas. The most affected part is the front driver's side.
I brought car in for routine oil change. Mechanic called me in to show me the extreme rust under the frame. It is flaking off in chunks and almost rusted through in some parts. Mechanic informed me that this was not normal and I should contact Toyota for possible recall information. I contacted Toyota, but have not heard back for over one month.
There is excessive frame rust throughout the chassis. Waiting on a recall for 2006+ models. Rust is flaking off in large chips. Happy with my truck otherwise, but will never buy another Toyota if this does not get remedied.
The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that the frame was rusted and extremely thin in some areas. The contact spoke with the manufacturer and was told that the frame was not under warranty. The failure and the current mileages were 103,000.
In October of 2012 I purchased a 2006 Toyota Tacoma from interstate Toyota in airmont, NY. The vehicle had 79,000 miles on it, had and had passed the Toyota 160 point / certified pre-owned inspection. Prior to the purchase I asked about missing rear wheel molding, non functioning outside temperature gauge and what looked like rust on the frame. The vehicle was brought into their shop and put on a lift. The molding was repaired, the guage ordered and shipped to my home, and I was assured by my salesman, justin goetz, that the rust was merely surface rust, and that the vehicle wouldn't have passed the 160 point inspection had it been more then just simple surface rust. I was happy with my truck and purchased it with their platinum warranty coverage using Toyota financial. Several weeks ago the a/c stopped working. I got an appointment at my local dealership, shore Toyota, in pleasantville NJ to have it fixed. I asked that the a/c be checked, and that the frame be checked as a mechanic that performed my last oil change had noted concern about frame rust to me. Shore Toyota replaced the a/c clutch (covered under warranty), and proceeded to tell me that "the vehicle should not be driven and taken off the road immediately as the vehicle is not safe to drive!!" I was informed that the frame was severely rusted out with perferations holes on the left & right side rails. I was told that there was no way this vehicle could have passed a 160 point inspection because it would take much longer then 8 to 9 months for so much rot to occur. I was floored!! I just wanted my a/c fixed. I never could have imagined that my $20,000+ truck was a junker. . . . . That I'd been had. Toyota corp said there were no recalls and nothing they could do about it at this time. I wish I could include the pics I have of the frame.
The frame on my 2006 double cab Tacoma is severely rusted. Huge metal flakes with quarter size thickness is flaking off the main frame & all cross members. There is a hole that has developed under the truck bed in the frame. I took the truck to a Toyota dealer and they looked at the frame and said it was very rusty but right now there was not anything they could do to help because Toyota had not issued any official "recall" or "TSB" for frame repair for 2006 models. I called the Toyota customer line. The lady took all my information and concern, but informed me that at this time I was on my own to have any frame work repaired. I feel the Toyota corporation should stand behind the 2005+ years Tacoma frame rust issues as they have with the 2001-04 model. It is obvious that the severe frame rust issue did not end with the 2004 model Tacoma.
Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that while at a dealer for an unrelated repair he was informed there was rust on the frame. After a few months the contact noticed a hole corroded in the frame. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 81,000. Da.
Since the vehicle was about 6 years-old I've experienced a high degree of frame rust. Since this time, on a annual basis, I've spot painted (with rust protectant paint) areas of the frame that is 'peppered' with rust. Recently, I found out that this problem is rampant throughout the Tacoma community, so I have since contacted Toyota. The local dealership has been non-responsive, so I am in the process of dealing with the corporate customer service department. As I write this, I am awaiting their response. I find this frame rust problem dangerous and unacceptable. My local climate only sees an average humidity level of 5%, with very little rain, yet still the frame is peppered with rust each year I do my inspection.
We own a 2006 Toyota Tacoma that was taken to a garage for a state inspection and was pointed out to us that the vehicle has extensive frame rust with area of significant rust flaking off. It was also noted that there was a small rust through in one area. We took this vehicle to the dealer where we purchased it. They took pictures of the vehicle to forward to Toyota for them to evaluate the situation. It was noted that the technician exclaimed that the vehicle had this much rust for such a low mileage vehicle (29,407 miles). Toyota replied to the inquiry and stated that it was not a safety issue and they would not act on it. Looking at the underside of the vehicle and comparing with other earlier Tacomas that had been recalled for frame rust, I fail to see where this vehicle should not be considered having a major rust problem. I'm concerned that there will be further degradation and possible lead to the vehicle being unsafe. Pictures and copy of work order available upon request.
Been to dealer once 2 years ago about rusting frame and they told me it would not be addressed because there were no perforations. I'm sorry but once there are perforations the vehicle has lost structural integergrity making it unsafe and undriveable. .
Barkley Toyota, asheville, nc, noted, on 1 Nov 2010, "frame on truck rusted on "quality vehicle inspection" report. Said it wasn't important. On 7 sept 2011 jacobson Toyota, durham, nc, noted "heavy rust throughout underbody" on its "25-point inspection. " on 14 sept 2011, barkley Toyota, the usual service provider, inspected the truck, found heavy rust throughout the underbody, but said it was up to Toyota to fix any problem. Barkley did not evaluate safety issues. Barkley said photos and a description would be sent to Toyota and I might, or might not, hear directly from them. Identical problems were found on 1995-2005 Toyota Tacoma, and a recall was issued. But Toyota has not acknowledged or recalled 2006 or later Tacoma's which have what appears to be the same problem.
I am writing to file a complaint about my 2006 Toyota Tacoma. In January 2010 while I was having new tires installed on my truck I noticed a significant amount of rust and large areas of metal flaking off of the frame, crossmembers and factory installed trailer hitch of my truck. Subsequent to this discovery I did some research on the internet and found that Toyota had instituted a customer support program for owners of 1995-2004 Tacomas addressing this exact issue. On January 15, 2010 I took my truck to gateway Toyota in tom's river NJ, the dealership where I bought my then new truck in 2006 and had their service manager inspect my truck. I was present during this inspection and I pointed out the large arrears of rust and flaking metal on my frame, crossmembers and trailer hitch to the service manager who told me that unless my frame had actual holes in it caused by rust nothing could or would be done to correct the obvious corrosion of these vital components. This rust problem is an issue that Toyota has been avoiding dealing with for many years and I feel that ignoring this issue is affecting the safety and value of my truck. It is beyond logic for Toyota to assist owners of older vehicles and ignore owners of newer and much more valuable vehicles with the exact same problem. Please institute a recall of all Toyota Tacoma trucks regardless of year of manufacture before serious and possibly deadly incidents occur due to compromised structural integrity of these substandard and rust prone frames. . Thank you.
The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The contact noticed an excessive amount of rust on the frame and contacted the manufacturer. The manufacturer advised him to take the vehicle to an authorized dealer. The dealer stated that they would keep an eye on the rust yet the contact stated that the rust became progressively worse. No repairs were performed. The current mileage was approximately 32,900 and the failure mileage was approximately 23,400.
I have a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. It is washed regularly and all manufacturer routine maintenance is performed. Every year I take the time to do through inspection underneath to make sure there are no problems. Last summer when flushing out frame tubes with a garden hose I noticed large flakes of rust being flushed out through the drain holes. I also noted significant rust on many areas of the frame. This summer I can see the problem is getting severely worse. Brackets and mounts are becoming severely rusted. Frame is beginning to flake. Skid plat is nearly rusted through. At the mass inspection the inspector told me the truck frame is rusting fast and I needed to be concerned. This truck is only 4 years old! the body is perfect. But the frame is crumbling! I have spoken with my dealer. He said many 2005 models were recalled for this problem and Toyota was replacing the frames. They did an inspection and said my problem is exactly the same as the 05s. But they did think Toyota was going to repair the 06 models. Please help. I need at least 4 more years from this truck. And I looked at trading, but the dealer said with the rust my current vehicle is not worth much on a trade.
