2 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2019 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 11/04/2021

In a matter of minutes, the brakes were fine and then they weren't. There was no notice given. Pushed on the brakes, the pedal went to the floor and did not stop or slow the vehicle down. Pumped the brakes and was able to safely decelerate, but not before almost crashing into the car in front of me. An independent brake shop has indicated the master cylinder is leaking internally. There is a safety recall (18v-888) for production dates of 30 days before this vehicle was produced. Seems to me that this vehicle exhibits the identical behavior in the recall that applies to "not" this one. At least at the time of this writing.

3 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2019 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 12/01/2020

When applying the power brakes at a stop the pedal after a few seconds starts to fade to the floor if released and reapplied they come back up to stop position and will fade again. When backing up and brakes are applied and backing slowly to house garage the brake starts to fade to the floor and has to be reapplied to stop the truck. Yesterday in a shopping mall I had to go around a parked car with another car headed in my direction had to apply brakes and slowly move past the parked car the pedal went so far down my foot hit the accelerator and had to take my foot off the brake pedal and reapply the brakes. Had truck back to Toyota dealer twice and they insist there is no problem with the truck. If you have ever driven an older car where the master cylinder fails that is exactly what it feels like, having that experience once in my driving career of over 60 years/ the truck to me is not a safe vehicle to drive and am concerned for myself and my wifes safety. Called customer service 1-800 number and was told nothing they can do if service dept said no problem with the truck, looking for some solution I see others have posted the same problem on your web site. Thank you .

4 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2020 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 09/03/2020

I own a 2020 Tacoma with 14k miles on it. I was driving my truck and I went to hit my brakes and the pedal went straight to the floor. I was able to get partial brakes by pumping them up like when you are bleeding new brakes. Took truck to Toyota and they had it for 10 days. There was a total failure of the brake master cylinder. If this scenario would have occurred while driving in traffic or on the highway the end result could have been fatal. The Toyota service manager said he had never seen anything like this before and they had engineers have them run tests on the part while on my truck so they could find out why it happened.

6 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2019 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 08/10/2020

When driving my 2019 Toyota Tacoma (approx. 6900 miles) I noticed the brakes were not firm after initial application. The pedal then would slowly sink to the floor and braking power was drastically reduced that time. I pumped the brake and achieved better braking result but when constant pressure was applied the braking result diminished very quickly. This continued during all driving conditions. To me it very closely resembled a master brake cylinder seal failure, which I have experienced with vehicles in the past. I checked the brake fluid level and operated the brakes in a stationary position and the same symptoms occurred. The brake fluid in the reservoir was at the correct level and did not vary. I was able to return the vehicle to the dealer for diagnosis and repair. Upon inspection of the vehicle I was notified that the technician believed the brake master cylinder was faulty. The dealer has ordered the replacement part and provided a rental vehicle at no charge. I was informed everything would be a warranty covered repair.

17 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2007 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 06/03/2012

Vehicle has approximately 38,000 miles, 2007 Toyota Tacoma. I was traveling approximately 3 mph when four indicator lights illuminated and a warning alarm constant tone. At that point I lost all power to the braking system. I did not experience any issues leading up to this incident and the dealership has been unable to diagnose the cause of the complete loss of power to the brakes. The dealership stated I would need to replace the entire abs actuator assembly (master cylinder assembly, with engine control module, with booster pump). Toyota currently experiences a national back order on the required parts to repair the vehicle (part numbers 47050-04041 and 47070-04020). I am concerned that there is a larger problem with the braking system that has not been addressed by Toyota. I was further told that this issue is extremely rare but with a back order on the parts and no anticipated delivery date, I am very skeptical. It seems there have been some braking issues with other Toyota models around the same time frame.

18 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 02/22/2010

Braking took much longer to stop. Ceramic pads were installed. Brake pedal now goes to the floor when stopped. Master cylinder was replaced by Toyota on 2/25/2010. The brake pedal still went to the floor when stopped. Toyota checked it on 4/05/2010 and said all their newer trucks loose vacuum and the pedal goes to the floor. Called Toyota headquarters and they said this isn't normal (4/07/2010). Toyota inspected brakes again on 4/12/2010 and said it's normal for the brake pedal to go to the floor at a stop. I have a 2006 Toyota Tacoma w/ 40k miles. Toyota showed me a 2007 Tacoma that did the same thing. My pedal never went to the floor before the master cylinder went. Many mechanics tell me it's not safe for the pedal to go to the floor. If you feel this is safe ok. If this is not safe please investigate.
