Equipment Problems of Toyota Tacoma - part 2

My concerns are with the remote capabilities of this Toyota Tacoma that has been lent to us by the i5 dealership in chehalis wa. We are using this vehicle while they complete repairs on our truck. Home link, apple music, remote connect, sirius xm, and other functionalities are being used for surveillance, stalking, spying and remotely unlocking the vehicle. The truck has been broken into at least 3 times, twice my debit cards were stolen and the other time a sd card was put into the truck. Initially I believed this could’ve been something I inadvertently did but when I saw the pictures on the card I knew this wasn’t the case. My family and I have been under attack by a dod vendor, [xxx] , who is putting forth an extraordinary effort to criminally impersonate me by linking all of my families electronic devices to a lan that is managed by him. The lan allows him to then add mdm to the individual devices and he has restricted me from obtaining any help with his intrusions for the last two years. Issues such as this, that should be easily addressed, become monumental tasks. I attempted to submit this report 2 times last night to no avail. I then called in to the number and was told they don’t take reports of this nature and that I should call the manufacturer. A google search told me this claim was untrue, so here I am, back here attempting to once again complete the report. For someone who wants nothing other than my demise to have control over a vehicle I’m being forced to drive is cause for great concern. I do not know what other automations he has enabled but I can also see that the homelink has also been set up in some capacity. The screen in the truck states that my speed and location may not be accurately reflected on other displays. There appear to be wifi and hotspot connections that we have been unsuccessful connecting to, which is fine. . But their mere presence concern me. Paint starting to peel on exterior of both passenger and rear passenger side doors above window frame. Apparently Toyota is aware of the problem in models with the super white paint color and has issued a recall for their vehicles with certain VIN's. My VIN is not included in the recall although the paint peeling is identical to other vehicles that are included in the recall. Thank you.

2010 Toyota Tacoma frame is rusting and deteriorating. VIN [xxx] . Lou fusz Toyota [xxx] on [xxx]. 138,748 miles. This vehicle is in good condition except for frame. At 15 year I would not expect a frame to rust and cause a possible dangerous situation. My local shop, gt's auto, pointed out this frame deterioration during an oil change on [xxx]. The dealership agreed that this will become dangerous soon. I understand that 2005 -2010 Tacoma trucks had this same issue and a class action on 21 may 2017. Please advise. Thank you. Known issue of paint peeling around the window frame on white vehicles. However, Toyota indicates that this VIN is not affected by this reported issue. They cannot explain why and deny it could be happening based on the VIN number alone.

I had 8022 miles on my Tacoma , Toyota employee of almost a decade , drove like normal no adds , one morning drove to a conference and was on the road no more than 20 min and then I see the bed of my truck on fire , im on the interstate so I pull over quickly and call 911 and then it just burnt up and gone. Now a year later and Toyota refuses to assist with anything saying they cant find out despite the insurance companies ruling me out and fowl play out. I feel strongly Toyota has an obligation to make this right.

Back up camera is not shielded correctly and rain accumulates on the camera everytime that it rains. It does not matter if it is a light rain ir a heavy rain. This causes the image to be very blurry and creates a hazard.

Whenever we need to use the horn there isnt one to use. We have changed the fuse more than once still nothing.

I would like to express my concern about the paint on my 2015 Toyota Tacoma in ribbon blue, which has faded significantly on the roof and hood and is chipping extensively underneath the hood, around the windows, and underneath the doors. The extent of the fading and chipping is alarming, especially given that the vehicle is barely 10 years old and has been properly maintained. For a company renowned for quality and durability, this level of paint deterioration is unacceptable and seems like a manufacturing defect.

The truck's frame has severely rusted. The frame has deteriorated. It is unsafe to drive as the frame is breaking in half. According to Toyota, this was a huge problem with the 2006 Tacoma. They will not fix the frame or offer any solution. My son can not safely drive this vehicle.

The spare tire hoist on Tacomas was over tighten at the factory, when I had a flat, used the kit tool to try to lower spare tire, the weak metal failed, unable to lower tire. Took vehicle to stapp Toyota, they knew all about the problem, they loosen hoist, but would not cover the tool kit under warranty. They wanted me to pay around 300. 00 for a new kit. When I got home to try the hoist, I found they had taken my old damaged too kit and replaced it with another damaged. Tool kit , not useable. I tired to speak to management at stapp Toyota, no wants to talk about it. Think about all the Tacomas that have the same problems x 300 dollars = a lot of money. This is a scam someone dreamed up and is working quite well.

2024 new 4th-generation Tacoma hybrid limited. During driving in snow or rain, the front chrome grille or another component in the front, appears to collect water. Periodically, it releases a sudden burst of water or snow onto both sides of the windshield. The impact is abrupt, like having a snowball or large splash of water thrown at the glass, and is startling because it’s unexpected. This happens on both the driver and passenger sides, (but not at the same time) temporarily impairing visibility and potentially increasing the risk of an accident. Note: this occurs every time it snows or rains.

The vehicle has a vibration at speeds in excess of 40mph. The dealer has confirmed that the wheels are balanced and that the truck is in alignment. They have duplicated the issue on my truck and have driven an identical model and experienced the same inherent vibration. There are also mentions of this vibration in Tacoma forums online specific to the trd off-road variant.

I am reporting a safety concern related to my Toyota vehicle involving the all-weather floor mat on the driver’s side. I have noticed that the mat consistently becomes caught on top of the clutch pedal when I press the pedal all the way down. This causes the mat to obstruct the pedal’s full range of motion, making it difficult to fully disengage the clutch. As a result, I have to be extremely cautious and pull over to manually adjust the mat whenever this happens, as it poses a potential safety hazard while driving. I have recorded a video showing this issue occurring, but the file size is too large to submit through the NHTSA portal. As an alternative, I have taken a screenshot from the video that clearly shows the mat interfering with the clutch pedal. I am concerned that this issue could lead to an unsafe driving situation, especially in emergency or high-stress driving conditions. I am requesting that this issue be investigated, as it may affect other vehicles with similar all-weather floor mats.

2023 Tacoma trd off-road engine shut off and the high transmission fluid temperature warning popped up. Toyota dealer did not find any error codes. The incident did not happen again for about a month.

When I was driving my new truck the transmission failed. It would not change gears forward or reverse. The rmp started ramping up in the red. Check engine light on drive start control malfunction. Advanced ultrasonic detecting and ranging system. The led screen was going hoops asking for code and updating while driving day before transmission went. Called dealer. Had the car towed. Later that day was told bye dealer the transmission needs to be replaced. Did research to find out Toyota new theses transmission are faulty and have not recalled. If I where on highway or similar roads I drive daily I would have been hurt. This problem will cause a accident. I am aware the NHTSA has been informed, reached out to Toyota and Toyota has not responded nor have they started a safety recall. My fear is they are waiting for someone to get hurt or killed. My dealer also informed me another customer with a Tacoma has been waiting since may 2024 for a transmission.

I have a 2015 Tacoma that has the super white (040) paint issues of flacking and peeling on around my windows, doors and engine bay as well has all painted metal surfaces seem to have lost its clear coat finish and now looks flat matte. These issues are described in both Toyota customer support programs 23te08 (2016-2022 Tacomas) and zkg (wide range of vehicles not including Tacomas); however, my truck is not included in either csp. I would like to request that my vehicle year be included in the currently running Toyota customer programs for the super white paint chip and pealing issues.

Speedometer/odometer is incorrect and Toyota manufacturing says it cannot be fixed. Toyota sells this vehicle with two different size tires. The smaller is approximately 30. 6 inches high and the larger is 32. 61 inches high. Toyota manufacturing sets the odometer and speedometer for the larger tire and says that is the only option. That means that the speedometer is off by 4 miles an hour at 6 4 mph and for every 100 miles shown on the odometer, the truck has only traveled 98 miles. It’s frustrating to recalibrate in your mind. What the speed limit is versus what your truck is actually going, and it also throws off the warranty in Toyota‘s favor.

The air blows hard out of the vents when it's switched over to cold but when you move it over to heat it blows lightly like it's on the lowest fan speed but the fan is blowing on high it sounds like the air flow is being restricted.

Apple carplay does not mute music while playing or replying to a text message. The driver has to turn off the audio system to hear the text message and/or reply. This is not an issue with the apple device, as it works as intended in other vehicles such as a 2020 Hyundai kona and a 2024 GMC sierra where it has been tested. This is a safety concern as it is distracting to the driver to have to intervene in order to use the carplay functionality as it does not work like it is supposed to. It has been tested in both wireless and wired carplay and the issue persists.

Multimedia audio system in Toyota vehicles does not mute music being played when using car play to read text messages as it was designed by apple. This causes the driver to have to mess with the audio button and turn off the music while driving when listening to or replying to a text message. Hands free integration of a cellphone working in a vehicle as designed by the cellphone manufacturer should be required by the vehicle manufacturer if they state it is a feature when purchasing one of their vehicles. Reports to the vehicle manufacture about this flaw have been disregarded and they state it is working as designed. Reports to the cellphone manufacturer state that it is not working as they intend it to, but vehicle manufacturer refuses to fix it.

Paint is chipping off in several places and have read this is a major problem with Tacomas in the white color.

There is a large screen in the vehicle and the oem sends messages to me that are extremely distracting and hazardous as the one I recently received was recall notice telling me that the rear axel could fall off the car. I received this "text" while I was driving down the interstate at 65 mph and it scared me and gave me a panic attack. It is illegal for me as a driver to text and drive yet it seems perfectly ok for the oem to text me while I am driving and foces me to read their message. This is a flagrant and completely obvious safety hazard. Why the engineers at Toyota were not Smart enough to realiz this is a preventable safety hazard is shocking! it is also shocking at the federal regulators are not taking action without prodding from a consumer. Please fix this safety hazard as in addition to the stupid text I also received a huge yellow hazard sign that blocked my view of my spedometer so there are two hazards that need to be addressed. I urge you to do a recall of these issues with my Tacoma truck and do not allow the oem to communicate these recalls to me on my vehicles screens but rather contact the owner via email, phone call and put an immediate stop to all the dangerous messaging the oem uses. This is an extremely dangerous matter and I am concerned a driver like me could be seriously injured or killed while driving. 0.

I have had my secondary air pump replaced twice already. Now six months later am having the same codes and the truck is back at the dealership. Throws code p2443 valve stuck closed. . . . . On a 6 month old part. This w=has been an issue with this and other Toyota models since 2012. Why is there no recall on these?.

Bringing to your urgent attention a significant safety concern regarding a 2004 Toyota Tacoma owned by my brother, [xxx] , bought in 2004, which has severe frame rust affecting the vehicle’s structural integrity and safety. Despite multiple attempts to resolve this matter directly with Toyota, we have been unable to obtain assistance, as Toyota states the customer support notice for this issue has expired. Given the potential risk this poses to both the driver and other motorists, we are seeking your intervention to address this pressing matter. In September 2024, while retrieving an item from under the truck, my brother discovered extensive rust damage on the vehicle’s frame. We promptly took the truck to antwerpen Toyota on September 4, 2024, where a technician confirmed the severe rust corrosion and deemed the truck unsafe to drive. The dealership informed us that Toyota had previously issued a customer support notice addressing rust issues on this model but explained that the program had expired. They recommended we contact Toyota directly for potential support or compensation to help acquire a safe vehicle. We reported the case to Toyota (case no. [xxx]) on September 4, 2024, and have since been in regular contact, yet have only been met with repeated delays and dismissals. Toyota representatives acknowledged that a notice had been issued for this problem, but despite knowing the serious nature of the rust and its impact on the vehicle’s safety, they have not provided us with any solution. We have requested escalation to senior management, but those requests have not been honored. Toyota’s refusal to address this safety defect, even with our willingness to discuss options, has left us with no alternative but to turn to your agency for help. We understand that the notice has expired and that my brother was not the vehicle’s original owner. Chirp noise on cold start coming from the a/c compressor, it goes away when warms up.

I purchased this vehicle in may 2016. The vehicel has the "super white" paint package. In late may 2019 I noticed the paint was starting to peel off the door frame, above the headlights and above the windshield. I contacted the Toyota dealership where I purchased the vehicle, desert Toyota of tucson) and they told me there was a recall on the paint and that I would be receiving a letter from Toyota USA about this. A year went by and I contacted Toyota USA, and was told there was no recall on my vehicle due to paint peeling. I again contacted Toyota USA in 2021 (incident # 210719-000344) regarding the peeling paint which was getting worse and was again told no recall due to peeling paint. I have spoken with the dealership several times about this and I keep getting told that I will be receiving a letter from Toyota USA, but there is a backlog. I called Toyota USA again this morning 8/13/2024 and was told no recall on my peeling paint, yet my dealer insists there is one. Toyota USA told me to conatct the NHTSA about this, so I have.

The a/c compressor has a chirp when the compressor is cycled on in the mornings it's done this since the day I drove it home from the dealership.

The vehicle's super white factory applied paint (040) is peeling around the exterior window frame. Took it to local dealership and was advised to speak with Toyota customer service who advised that my year had not been included in the srp 23te08 with the same issues for years 2016-2022. They asked me to file complaint here so hoping that it can be added to get the repairs approved.

My air conditioning is not working right blowing hot air. Had it charged and no change, I believe that I have the same issue as others, my air bags light keeps going off and on when driving. I see where there was a recall on other Toyota vehicles that had the same problem as me.

2017 (manufactured in June) model year Tacoma vehicles painted with 8t0 blue metallic exhibit clear-coat peeling on one or more panels. The peeling occurs in the clear coat layer, exposing the base coat to the sunlight and fading the color to white. There is a current TSB #t-sb-0004-20, but Toyota says my vehicle was manufactured outside the affected production range, as you can see in the attached, my vehicle's clear coat peeling looks exactly as described in the TSB. I have seen online other people are experiencing this pushback as well from Toyota. This TSB should be extended at least through June of 2017 if not through the end of the year. Toyota is refusing to make the repairs.

Vehicle: 2009 Toyota Tacoma VIN: [xxx] mileage: 128,400 owner: jacob grove, anderson, SC summary of issue: the frame of this 2009 Toyota Tacoma has developed severe rust perforation that makes the vehicle unsafe to drive. My independent mechanic has refused to work on it due to safety concerns, and Toyota of greenville (SC) has confirmed that the frame is extensively corroded and requires replacement. Background: Toyota previously issued a customer support program (csp) for frame corrosion affecting 2005–2009 Tacomas in northern states, including ohio, where this truck was purchased and operated. In June 2018, the vehicle was inspected at don wood Toyota in athens, OH (91,600 miles). The dealership recorded “no perforation” and did not apply the protective coating or replace the frame. The truck has been minimally driven since (an average of 6,000 miles per year). In may 2024, at 128,400 miles, a mechanic and dealership confirmed the frame has multiple areas of severe perforation, including around brake lines and exhaust mounts. Concern: it is unreasonable that a vehicle frame could go from “no perforation” to “severe perforation” in only 36,000 miles and six years of light use. This indicates either: the 2018 inspection under Toyota’s csp was inadequate, or the frame was already compromised but not properly addressed at the time. Safety risk: the vehicle cannot be safely lifted, worked on, or driven in its current condition. The rapid deterioration presents a risk of frame failure while driving, endangering occupants and others on the road. Request: I am submitting this complaint so that NHTSA is aware of ongoing frame corrosion failures in 2005–2009 Toyota Tacomas, even in cases where Toyota previously inspected and declined to repair during the csp period. This case demonstrates that the problem may not have been properly identified or corrected during program inspections, leaving unsafe vehicles on the road. I have recently been made aware of the super white paint recall and know that is not yet in full force or able to be serviced at this time. That being said, it appears that the recall only covers " paint peeling along the exterior door window frames and front inner fenders under the hood on certain Tacoma vehicles with 040 super white paint color", but there are multiple reports of this entire paint job being defective over multiple generations as well as paint outside of these areas specified. This recall should cover an entire repaint and is extremely frail in quality otherwise.
