2 Paint problem of the 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 08/24/2020

I have a black-colored 2006 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. For many years, I've wondered why the paint on the hood chipped off in tiny circles, unlike any other model vehicle that I have ever owned. Recently, I was shocked to see how badly rusted a section of the roof of my cab was. I checked online to see if others were having a similar issue and found people complaining of this seemed to own pick-ups that were also painted black, and were also 2006 models. The rust patterns seemed similar in every picture I viewed, a portion of the roof above the drivers side, rusted the length from near the front windshield area to near the back of the cab. In my opinion, and based on the pictures of similar instances I've viewed online, there seems to possibly be some compelling evidence of a deficiency in the painting method or material used on this color/year truck. Is there a recall or service bulletin in the works? I believe Toyota needs to acknowledge this issue as something does not seem quite right and that they should address these anomalies in an effort to reach a fair resolution? btw, the rear bumper's exceptionally rusted out too, and the plastic headlight coverings on this model have clouded up worse than I have ever seen on any other vehicle make, as most other headlights that I am familiar with are made of glass. (see attached pictures).

3 Paint problem of the 2007 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 12/16/2019

I have two concerns: first is the clear-coat and paint on the vehicle rubbing off causing the roof and other body panels to rust, which in turn causes the structural integrity of the vehicle to be compromised in the event of an accident/rollover. Second is that the front headlamps fill up with water/moisture during cold weather/rain/ and car washes. This could lead to the headlamps shorting out causing an accident and possible injuries/deaths. Toyota so far has offered no solution to either concern and my extended warranty company claims they won't cover sealed beam headlamps. If they are as they claim sealed beam headlamps how is the water intrusion happening? both of these concerns are safety related and should be addressed as such. I am the second owner of this vehicle and it only has less than 62,000 miles.

Purchased vehicle new in April 2017. December 2017 noticed roof paint cracking. I contacted Toyota January. Notified them of the problem when serviced. Contact xylon for inspection. Toyotas service department not willing to help. I called the xylon inspector. He inspected 4 trucks like mine. Trucks are losing paint. Its not xylon. Toyota has a 3 year warrantee on paint. Notified windward service dept. It took more than a month to contact me back. Toyota csd dept and for several months was not unable to come to a solution. Toyota refused to help. Windward service dept assit. Manager notified me. They would paint parts of the vehicle with lose of paint. Take back the truck and give me a new one. The hood, side doors had no paint and spots on windows due to run off. Gm doesn't want to talk poor visibility at night and paint from the truck wash away. Toyota painted the truck plus give me money back and extend my service on the truck as well as fix anything on the truck that the paint ruined and get rid of the spots on the windows in order for me to drive it. Turned in truck due to poor visibility in widows. Its dangerous to drive. Toyota painted truck, changed someparts that was damaged by the paint. Refused to fix the windshield and all other surfaces that have white spots on them as well as other parts of the truck that is damages. Toyota still has the vehicle and now the new paint is coming off as well. They sent me a certified letter stating they no longer fix the vehicle and they have given me enough. The service manager at windward stated they have spent too much money and I have to return their loaner. 9 Paint problem of the 2008 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 02/07/2015

I brought my truck in for the frame check. They said I was good for a frame spray. They sprayed my truck because I was told it was warrantied. I get my truck back and the spray is all over my garage my driveway my paint and rubs off by driving through snow. I was told some trucks come back after a year with bad frames with this treatment. How are they allowed to cover up such a safety hazard. I should have learned from my last Toyota frame that snapped on me as I was driving. But after there last recall I was thinking something changed. Turns out they made no changes to their frames even after all there issues. So I asked if I was to buy a brand new truck is there a new frame process. . Guess what no change.

10 Paint problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 11/13/2014

Due to a faulty paint or manufacturing process my vehicle is experiencing excessive paint chipping, not caused by external forces. The manufacturer's local dealer as well as local reputable body shops, are aware of the problem. The manufacturer was contacted without resolution. While researching my particular situation, I came across numerous write ups of other consumers experiencing the same issue.

11 Paint problem of the 2007 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

My indigo blue paint has peeled of the roof of the cab prematurely and without any damage I researched the Toyota recall on white blizzard pearl paint and I believe this is definitely a similar defect. The vehicle was stationary please view pictures attached. Sincerely thomas steed tmsteed@hotmail. Com 914-213-5909.

12 Paint problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 11/30/2013

On the top part of my hood on my 2005 Toyota Tacoma pre-runner. The paint is chipping/ flaking off to where the metal is being shown. The paint everywhere else on my truck is fine, except on the trim around the wheel-well is fading. The other problem is with the rear console latch which closes and opens the console broke after eight months of driving my truck. The latch did feel like it was sticky until I closed the top part of the console and the latch broke off. I was able to take it off myself but I eventually found out in order to replace that part I would have to buy an entire new console for a part I took off in less than thirty seconds. Those are the only issues with my 2005 Toyota Tacoma.

13 Paint problem of the 2009 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 09/01/2013

The paint is peeling off the cab of my Tacoma, even though I wash it frequently and wax it. It is faded and now starting to rust due to the paint peeling and coming off the top of the cab. I have tried everything to stop this, but nothing seems to work, and seems to be poor quality paint or workmanship. I have seen several vehicles of the same year as mine with the same issues.

14 Paint problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 04/15/2011

My 2005 Toyota Tacoma quad cab sr5 has an issue with the transmission. At a complete stop with my foot firmly on the brake my truck lunges forward in a very dangerous abrupt manner as though someone rear ended me. This happens often at stop lights a few seconds after I come to a complete stop. A second issue is that my paint is cracking and peeling on my roof and my clear coat is noticeably bad on the edges of my hood and doors. My truck is not of appropriate age or weather conditions to have these types of paint problems. Toyota refuses to investigate or pay for my issues and just recommends that I go pay a dealer to fix it out of my pocket. I see several others with the exact same problems on many blogs, class action anyone?.

15 Paint problem of the 2003 Toyota Tacoma

16 Paint problem of the 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 03/01/2009

Starting in March 2009, cast aluminum wheels have paint bubbling and surface corrosion. Contacted Toyota and they would not address the issue stating out of warranty condition. A professional wheel reconditioner has stated that if even if repainted it would return since the corrosion is embedded into the metal. My opinion is that over time, surface corrosion can lead to weakening of the wheel structure potentially causing failure and serious injury.

17 Paint problem of the 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 05/15/2007

The paint on the 2006 Tacoma with 5000 miles had numerous paint chips all over the body. The paint seemed extremely thin/low quality. The vehicle was driven approximately 35 miles/round trip to work and parked in a garage.

18 Paint problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 05/12/2005

My 2005 Toyota Tacoma pickup has severe paint chipping problems on the rocker panels, lower doors, and front of the bedsides. Toyota is denying responsibility. They want to do a paint repair which will depreciate the value of my truck instead of giving me a new truck which is the only way to properly correct the problem. Unless they were to strip my truck down to bare metal and repaint from scratch, there is no other way to do it properly.

19 Paint problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 04/01/2005

The paint on my 2005 Toyota Tacoma is chipping of very rapidly and the paint is very soft and can not with stand the normal road conditions in my state. There is a problem with the paint from the factory and no resolutions are being made.

20 Paint problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 03/07/2005

I have a silver 2005 Toyota Tacoma extended cab and the paint is chipping everywhere, rockers, doors, leading edge of rear doors, a couple of spots on the windshield pillars, and in front of the rear tires feel like it got sandblasted. I complained to Toyota of keene. He told me Toyota told him to do whatever is necessary to fix the problem, but he is only to paint the leading edge of the read doors. The body shop told him if they pained the rest it would only chip off. I have never seen any other manufactures or other models of Toyota chip like this. What will it look like at 50,000 miles. Somebody please help!!!.

21 Paint problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 01/11/2005

Severe blistering, flaking and chipping of paint on my new Toyota Tacoma. First occured on January 11, 2005, when the truck was only 5 weeks old, after an 18 mile round trip to work on paved roads. There were hundreds of flakes and chips on the truck, too many to count. After a few months of this, much of the paint on the lower sections of the truck was gone. This is happening to many Tacomas, and Toyota is trying to blame it on environmental damage, but I don't see any other vehicles with the same kind of damage, only Tacomas. When driven as the manufacturer intends, the Tacoma suffers severe paint damage, much more than any reasonable owner would expect. Toyota offered me a "courtesy" paint job, but a body shop paint job and never match the original factory finish and is completely unacceptable on a brand new truck. Plus, the paint job Toyota offers covers only the areas affected so far, leaving behind all of the other areas on the truck which are still prone to severe chipping and flaking. In my opinion, the paint is defective.

22 Paint problem of the 2003 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 11/13/2003

2 months after I bought 03 Tacoma double cab w/ only 3000 miles on it I noticed that around the bottom corners of both rear drs and the front bottom corners of the bed all the paint had come off on a fairly small section (but very noticable, even from a distance). The service writer that I was speaking to said their was a problem with the double cabs doing this. At this point the service manager came to us and told me that it was cuased from me not installing running boards on the vehicle. Next he said that he would have to get in contact with the regional manager and discuss it with him and have him take a look at the vehicle. At this time I had a scheduled appointment and all they did was go look at it in the parking lot real quick and no ro was made months went by and I still got no responce when I would call they said they had to wait for the regional manager to make it up here. Again months went by and still nothing. Called and got the same responce. Again months and I called and was told that the rm was going to be their on a certain date and they set me up an appt. But told me I would have to go to their body shop first to get a quote to fix it. I went to the body shop on the day of my appt. And got to deal with the manager himself while they did up the quote to repair the manager was telling me that they had repaired at least a dozen of these same vehicles with the same problem under factory warranty. He had said that due to the body configuration and the placement of the factory mud flaps that debris coming off the front tires wears off the paint causing it to rust and also ruins the fender flares which he later showed me. He also stated that all of these vehicles were doing this. Next I went to the appt. And the rm and service manager went to look at the vehicle and I was told to wait in the sitting area. They came back in about ten minutes later and the rm told me that it was due to enviromental conditions and it would not be covered under warranty.
