Noticed rust on the frame of the vehicle with heavier amounts near/on weld points, & bolt points. Rust is accumulating on the steering tie rods. Heavy rust on rear differntial and various steering component parts. I consider the amount of rust on the frame and the above mentioned components a manufactureres defect. If any of the components fail while I am driving I could crash and injure, or kill another motorist/myself. I spoke with Toyota of sd service rep who told me I should contact Toyota. I have a 100,000/10yr extended service plan and want this resolved prior to the time frame running out.

I bought a 2003 Toyota Tacoma from a Toyota dealer in December 2011 with 81,841 miles on it. Upon driving the vehicle from tennessee to oregon a leak in the oil pan appeared. I looked under the vehicle and to my surprise the whole undercarriage of the vehicle was extremely rusting. The leak was from the oil pan that was corrected badly. I was able to make it from there to my home in oregon having to add about one quart of oil. The distance was about 700 miles. I took it to my local Toyota dealer and he informed me that I had major rust problems under the vehicle. The gas tank shield is gone due to rust. The front end suspension was so rusty they couldn,t get some of the bolts out. They had to remove some of the front end suspension to replace the oil pan. Both front backing plates for the rotors where rusted away. No alignment could be done because of the rust. I had the front end replace with good used parts and when they attempted to align the vehicle the front tie rod broke due to rust. The whole frame assembly is very rusty. I find out now that there was a voluntary recall of frame which I did not know about. This vehicle was bought from a Toyota dealer in tennessee in December of 2011. They never said a word to me about the rust problem. They did a oil change and they also replaced the emergency brake cable so they had to be aware of the rust problem. The vehicle a find out came from new york originally. They say they will help out with repair costs so far but what about the frame rust. This dealership withheld vital information from me. Toyota of America says the frame recall was voluntary and has expired. I feel this is a safety problem that needs taken care of.

I lease a 1999 Toyota tocoma when I turned into my driveway an started to back up. The tie rod end pulled out out of the knuckle on the rack an pinion without stripping the threads. Due to the fact that one si smaller than the other. The threads are there they are worn on the outer ends of both pieces. The truck has 50,100 miles on it. So far I am told this is my problem for me to fix. This is a serious safety problem to me. Because I did buy new parts to fix it. So I could have my truck. After two and a half weeks this all started 6-18-03 . But to my surprize the new parts did not fit much better than the one I took off. This scares me because even if they fix it. I would not feel safe thinking they might use the same kind of genuine Toyota parts like I brought from them to fix it.

While driving through a known residential area near my home and approaching a slight s-curve in the road, the steering began to not respond as expected. It had worked previously, less than a minute before, moving through curves in the same neighborhood. As I approached the s-curve I attempted to steer to the right, and mid-way through the curve the steering became weakened and less responsive. This caused the truck to continue in a near straight line of direction towards a yard. To counter this loss of control I responded by turning the steering wheel more towards the right until it was locked all the way right. At this time the truck was still not turning towards the right, and sent me across my lane and off the road. Once my left-front wheel was off the road, and due to it being turned towards the right in full, my truck swung in alignment with the left-front wheel back onto the roadway. With that sudden emergency seeming to be nearly under control I realized I was traveling towards a parked car. I began to steer to the left around the next curve and found my steering wheel was stuck to the right, and would not move to left as though it was somehow locked or frozen into that position. In extreme panic I ripped the wheel to the left as hard as possible and broke it free of it's locked position, only to find the wheel spinning freely to the left and still rolling towards the other car. Once the wheel had spun to the left completely and I was still going in a forward direction with no screech of the tires so I slammed on the brakes until I was in a skid across the the roadwayand hit the other car. When I landed the truck was not running, and there were no damaged engine parts. Also my steering wheel was turned to the left, and the left front wheel was too, but the right front wheel was turned out towards the right! the ball joint on the tie-rod end had come loose on that right-front wheel, but had not broke.
The inner tie-rod end on the passenger side was very loose. This allowed the wheel to move freely about 1. 5 inches at the perimeter in each direction. The part was replaced in August (I think) and yesterday I noticed the problem again, not as bad, only 0. 5 inches of travel. The front disk brakes caused a severe shudder that hampered my control over the vehicle at a moderate deceleration. The rotors have been replaced twice, and now it only vibrates mildly, although I am sure that the problem will return if its already vibrating. While walking around the dealership I noticed a box full of Tacoma rotors, a problem maybe?.
