38 Electrical System problem of the 2022 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 06/24/2024

The digital instrument cluster continues to have freezing issues as well as blacking out while driving. From our previous experiences, this is more than likely due to software. There was a safety recall (23ta02) that was suppose to address some of these issues, but they continue to exist and happen. Not to mention that the fuel level will reset to full even though the vehicle has been driven for most, if not all, of the usable fuel. This continues to happen on 2024 model year vehicles.

40 Electrical System problem of the 2018 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 06/12/2024

This case results from the malfunctioning trailer brake ecu on 2018-2019 Tundras. There is a Toyota service bulletin t-sb-0036-19, which specifies an updated controller to replace the defective model. Part # : original 89547-0c020 update/replacement 89547-0c060 Toyota will not replace this defective part outside of the original warranty period despite the issuance of an updated replacement part. The service bulletin wasn’t even issued until 4/19 possibly giving no recourse to owners whose warranty had tolled. The newer part number, suggests this was a dangerous defect that was upgraded. A review of this matter online details this problem has frequently occurred. The reason it’s not more commonly reported is that a minority of Tundra owners tow trailers, and even fewer tow with electric brakes. Regardless, this is a significant safety issue where the Tundra owners are forced pay about $1,100 to repair this defective part. This matter should be elevated to a recall since losing the functionality of one’s trailer brakes is a very dangerous situation.

41 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 06/11/2024

The transmission seems to be confused on which gear to select and hesitates to get the truck moving. It's happened to me at an intersection a few times and my car will inch forward but lags to accelerate, and vehicles behind me have been close to rear ending me. This is very reproducible in the mornings, it's very apparent or when the truck has been sitting off for a long period of time. After driving for a while it no longer happens. Every morning though this issue is apparent.

42 Electrical System problem of the 2022 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 06/05/2024

The digital instrument cluster continues to have freezing and lagging while in motion. The dte (distance to empty) has reset itself in the midst of driving with no input from the driver. This has continued to happen for multiple months. Also, the fuel gauge has become stuck. Toyota did release a TSB (t-sb-0022-23) to "resolve" this issue but it continues to be an issue well into the 2024 model year. See attached pictures.

45 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 05/04/2024

Toyota has failed to deliver second key fob for vehicle operation. Purchased vehicle 5/4/24 and keep being told I will be notified in future about when 2nd key fob will be available. Cannot operate vehicle if fob lost and in area with no cell coverage. Dealership and corporate contacts have repeatedly changed the anticipated date of resolution, leaving no real sense of when issue will be resolved.

46 Electrical System problem of the 2023 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 05/03/2024

I am writing to bring to your attention a critical safety concern regarding the Toyota Tundra, specifically related to the rear tailgate functionality. It has come to my attention, and I have personally experienced, that the rear tailgate of the Toyota Tundra can unexpectedly open while the vehicle is in drive mode if the key fob is accidentally pressed. This poses a significant safety risk to not only the driver but also to any passengers and other drivers on the road. The unintended opening of the tailgate can lead to cargo falling out onto the road, causing accidents and potentially endangering lives. I believe that this issue warrants immediate attention and investigation by the national transportation safety authority (ntsa). It is imperative that Toyota addresses this issue promptly to prevent any potential accidents or injuries. I urge the ntsa to conduct a thorough investigation into this matter and work with Toyota to implement a solution that ensures the rear tailgate remains securely closed while the vehicle is in motion. Additionally, I recommend that Toyota issues a safety recall to rectify this potentially hazardous defect. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I trust that the ntsa will take appropriate action to address this safety concern and ensure the safety of all road users.

48 Electrical System problem of the 2022 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 04/06/2024

I did a software update when it pops up on my lcd screen. Then the screen turns black and multiple sensors came on. Lta sensor brake fail sensor crash senor and more. I look online and found out it has a apple car play issue that cause sensor to malfunction. I don't know if my truck is safe to drive. Afraid the airbag will blow up because of the crash sensor popping up and the failure brake senor also popping up. I took it took my local Toyota dealer sandia Toyota they didn't even look at it and made false accusations and try to charge me when my truck at 20000 miles. I took it to another dealer to get it fix. The incident started 4/6/2024 and today is 4/23/24 and I still have no truck to drive. I paid 70k for it but more concern for other. Please look into this issue making sure it safe for me and other.

49 Electrical System problem of the 2022 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 03/03/2024

I was driving on highway 98 at 76 miles an hour. A light came on the dash said engine is low on power. Then immediately the car said to get to the side of the road the engine had shut off. This was in the middle of a drive on the interstate. I almost got hit by a truck. With family in the car. I made an appointment at our local dealer for all the recalls and they canceled it last Friday due to their service force being sick. This almost got me and my son killed.

50 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 02/26/2024

Vehicle was turned off and driver exited with key remaining inside of vehicle. Returned to vehicle to remove items from interior. The driver's door locked and was unable to unlock using its proximity sensor. I attempt to the Toyota digital key. The app alerted me that the unlock feature was not available at this time. Walked around the passenger door to find it to be unlocked. Tried to use the electronic door lock feature, it still would not unlock the drivers door. I had to crawl through over the passenger seat to the drivers door to manually unlock the door.

51 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 02/22/2024

There are two recurring issues effecting my truck. These have been ongoing for 6 months, since March of this year. I have been to my dealer lum's in warrenton, oregon 8 times for this. They have been unavailable to fix the issues and told me they needed a Toyota factory person to fix the issues because they do not have anyone at the dealership that can do it. Nate whisnant, the service manger at lum's was suppose to make this happen but he has not. They are not responding. I have sent a request to my sales person liz valsqueze try to get some movement from lum's. These issues are described by my launch code reading tool, which I had to buy to clear the codes to keep my truck operational as designed. The issues are two issues for the power system: 1. P2450 7e 2. Evaporative emissions system switching valve actuator stuck on there are two issues for vehicle body system: 1. Evaporative emission system switching vlave performance/stuck open 2. Lost communication with image processing module "b" missing message effectively what this means is that: 1. The truck throws a check engine light and asks me to contact the dealer while simultaneously disabling all cruise control related functions. 2. The cameras used for parking, backing, checking the security of loads I the bed etc are all disabled. All camera's around the truck are disabled not allowing for safety checks when pulling into or out of parking, etc. It is unsafe not to have a view around my truck when pulling in and out of tight places. It it unsafe not to have fatigue reducing cruise control on long trips and in heavy traffic with collision braking assistance that does not work. This vehicle is available for inspection by anyone that will take the time to inspect it. The is a constant warning lamp that does not go off asking me to contact the dealer to fix it. These warning lamps first appeared in February 2024. I purchased the truck in December 2023. The dealer has not fixed the problems.

52 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 01/29/2024

Took delivery of 2024 Toyota Tundra in January 2024. Dealer did not inform me of the 1 key fob now the second one later as part of sales process. Only when I finalized delivery was I informed of this condition. Was promised the second key fob in a few weeks. It’s now 5 months later and all previous dates for the second key fob have come and gone. Projections went from January, to March, may, July and now August. It’s a safety issue because users should have both key fobs promised in the owners manual on page 110.

53 Electrical System problem of the 2022 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 01/09/2024

The passenger camera mount is falling out of these trucks on the highway ( multiple incidence’s from owners posts). Toyota corporate is down playing the occurrences and and saying repair is not covered due to cosmetics. It’s a safety feature and Toyota corporate closed my case.

I was on the road and suddenly the dashboard came on and showed several faults. I took it to the dealership and they told me that the alternator was no longer working and my truck is now 3 months old at the Toyota dealership.

57 Electrical System problem of the 2023 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 10/11/2023

Before this recall happened we had issues with screen blacking out and crashing even after the recall was “fixed” also the back seat outlet has never worked. The malfunction of the grille shutter and park support brake malfunction came last week and we had to have that fixed. Now this! the dealerships around kansas don’t have loaner vehicles or rentals available. How is this okay?!.

58 Electrical System problem of the 2018 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 10/09/2023

While descending a steep grade towing an 8,000lb travel trailer using appropriate hill descent braking techniques, an error message came on the dash indicating a trailer wiring, type, or connection fault. From this point forward, I had no trailer brakes and was left with truck brakes only. I got the truck/trailer combination to the bottom of the grade safely, however this could have been catastrophic for an inexperienced driver or in a different situation. Upon further investigation, this is a common problem with Toyota Tundra’s, and acknowledged by Toyota in TSB # t-sb-0036-19 issued on April 1, 2019. The dealer and Toyota customer service will not acknowledge this, and states it is something only covered under the 3 year warranty. My question for you, the NHTSA, is how would this not be considered a safety issue, when the issue comes on unexpectedly under less than ideal circumstances, especially when Toyota has acknowledged that there is a problem with their brake controller. This is a safety issue, not a warranty issue. Toyota will be held accountable for any injury or death caused by my vehicle in this situation.

59 Electrical System problem of the 2011 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 09/20/2023

Horn stopped working right after I bought this truck from a dealer. I did some research on why it stopped. I was told and also read that it was the air bag clock spring. This controls the air bags and horn and other components. What it is the clock spring was installed by Toyota that had a bad spot on it. This causes the wiring harness to start rubbing and cutting into the wires. Would cause the horn to stop working and the air bags not to work and other things that is wired to this harness also. This should be a safety concern, and Toyota needs to recall to fix. Read that the 2011 Toyota's was bad for doing this. Costing the customer about $800. 00 to fix. I have the truck about 3 months. Might be the reason it was traded in. Works some times and doesn't work. I am worried the air bags will deploy if not fixed. Please check into this. I would like to know what you find out before I spend the money to get it fixed on social security and don't have that much money in hand to have fixed.

60 Electrical System problem of the 2016 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 09/06/2023

Seat heater stopped working. Turns out there is a burnt connector leading to part number 87501-0c020, which appears to be a seat heater amp. One pin of the connector is completely melted. I've purchased this truck brand new from Toyota. Nobody has ever touched this part. Scared that it could have caught fire.

61 Electrical System problem of the 2023 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 07/18/2023

The fuel gauge will randomly reset itself to full. This poses a safety concern as the truck may run out of gas while it is showing that it is not empty. This could happen while doing something like pulling out in to traffic or turning across a lane of traffic. This affects many trucks, not just mine.

62 Electrical System problem of the 2023 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 06/30/2023

The new Tundra most of the features are controlled by the 14-inch infotainment screen. The screen has gone completely dark and irresponsive to touch, power on/off, and hard reset by the dealership. Given that so many of the truck's safety features are controlled in this system, the vehicle is unsafe to operate. I have taken the vehicle to the dealership for service and beyond the hard reset (disconnect and reconnect the battery) which they've done, they are unable to diagnose what the problem is or how to fix it.

63 Electrical System problem of the 2013 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 06/27/2023

Backup camera cuts in and out. When put in reverse only shows a blue screen. Checked connections and seems to happen mostly when it rains.

64 Electrical System problem of the 2002 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 06/22/2023

Sudden maximum acceleration accompanied by brake failure, without warnings, occurred on my 2002 Toyota Tundra 4. 7l v8 causing loss of control of the vehicle, which ended in a rollover crash, resulting in total loss of the vehicle and injury to me. While departing a 25 mph zone (sign read "end 25 speed limit") on a relatively straight section of the road, I very gently accelerated from 20 mph to 30 mph. As soon as the vehicle reached 30 mph, sudden maximum acceleration occurred. Taking my foot off of the gas pedal, first I verified that the gas pedal was not stuck or blocked, but the gas pedal was in the fully up position. I then pressed the brake pedal very hard, but it was locked in the fully up position and the brakes would not engage. I then verified that nothing was blocking the brake pedal underneath it. At that point, around 3 to 4 seconds after the sudden acceleration began, I had entered the first turn of a 30 mph "s" turn at a high rate of speed, while acceleration continued at the vehicle's maximum acceleration rate beyond my control with the brakes not engaging. In order to avoid collision with a camper motor home and a small car following it, I went into the oncoming traffic lane at the second turn of the "s" turn. My truck fish tailed and struck a reflector marker on the left side of the road. To avoid going down a 50+ foot, nearly straight down drop on the left side of the road, I turned right. To avoid striking the motor home, I turned left, then right again to try to gain control. My truck rolled on its left side and landed upright on the right side of the road. It had been accelerating at its maximum acceleration rate with the brakes failing to engage and fish tailing the entire time. The problem appeared to be a catastrophic failure of the electronic throttle control and/or related electronic systems.

65 Electrical System problem of the 2006 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 05/25/2023

My ruck was recalledseveral years agofor the frame. To correct this issuea Toyota dealer spray the frame. This did not stop the frame from rusting. A lot of other people I talked to said their frames replaced with no questions asked. But not mine. When I talked Toyota for the new england territory, I was just given a run around. And nothing was done. There have been other recalls such as the air bag recall iam not sure that was done correctly. Recently I took my Toyota to Toyota of keene nh. I was told that they found other issues like the yransfer case was cracked in half. And there was a priblem with the head lights. Yes I can see there was a problem with the lights, someone at Toyota service did not plug them backin after they checked them. I had to move the battery to get at the head light think it was a bad bulb, not. And I lost the screw to the battery compartment some where intheengine area. I take great steps to keep my truck safe to drive and clean to look at.

67 Electrical System problem of the 2023 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 05/03/2023

The contact owns a 2023 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated while driving at approximately 65 mph, and at any speed, the vehicle instrument cluster and the radio would stop functioning. The contact stated that the message on the screen is that he had to enter a pin in order to be able to view the instrument cluster. The contact stated that the failure had become constant. The contact also stated that the emergency alert, or 911 alert feature, tied to the same system as the radio and instrument cluster, would also would fail. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where the dealer could not diagnose the failures and stated that that was how the system was designed. The vehicle had not been repaired. Additionally, the contact had received a recall letter for NHTSA campaign number: 23v566000 (fuel system, gasoline) that carries a risk of fire. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not yet available. The failure mileage for the other electrical system failures was approximately 17,000.

68 Electrical System problem of the 2023 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 05/01/2023

Hesitation when trying to accelerate. When I start my truck in the morning and hit the gas there’s a hesitation before it will move and when I come to a stop sign and hit the gas there’s always a hesitation. When the truck finally starts to move it jumps quickly forward from pressing down on the gas pedal and it’s almost caused me to rear end someone multiple times.

69 Electrical System problem of the 2014 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 05/01/2023

My Tundra 2014 have vibration during light to hard braking. The vibration can felt in any combination, steering wheel, seat, and entire vehicle. To can fell over a large or short rang of speed. The truck have a new rotors and new break pads (I change twice in 2 years helps a little bit but not fix the problem). 70 Electrical System problem of the 2023 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 04/28/2023

Notified of safety recall for this in August of 2023, to date, 10/10/2024, the fix has not been installed or available for my vehicle. Initially notified of a recall for the same issue on April 28th, 2023. I was under the impression this had been remedied during one of the services performed between April and August of 2023, with the dealer telling me the August 2023 recall was a different recall for the same part as the remedied part was recalled as well.
