Tl- the contact owns a 2017 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that there was a failure pertaining to the soy based wiring of which rodents had damage the electrical system upon eating away at the wires. The dealer modesto Toyota, 4513 mchenry Ave, modesto, CA 95356, (209) 529-2933 diagnosed that the wiring and the wiring harness needed to be replaced which was an extensive repair. The dealer and the manufacturer provided no solution of a different oem wiring to prevent the failure so the contact was uncertain if the failure may happen again by replacing the same oem parts. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, indicated that there was no warranty, no recall campaign and provided no assistance other than the contact repairing the vehicle. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was not available. Dyd.

Tundra had electrical fault in transmission due to wiring harness corrosion. Tundra will drop our of gear while driving and reengage violently. Toyota has refused any assistance and I am unable to repair due to national backlog on necessary parts. My Tundra was part of the rust recall a couple years ago which was never properly rectified and I believe this is a continuation of that problem. Transmission issue seems to occur mostly at speeds up to 45 mph.

2011 Toyota Tundra check engine light, 2lo, and traction control light all came on. Took to dealer, dealer found rodent damage to wiring harness. Replaced wiring harness and cleaned out mouse nest. Rodents were attracted to soy based wiring used in Tundra trucks. Over $600 in damage, not covered by Toyota, but should be!.

Mice are able to enter the air ventilation system from a large gap at the ends of the air intake grill below the windshield, once in, they enter the cab and dash area. These mice will damage the wiring and cause a vehicle system failure (braking-power-air bag, etc. ) I have reported this to my dealer rochester Toyota and Toyota customer service (800-331-4331). The dealer has acknowledged that this is a issue and only suggestion was to put a scent in the cab to discourage the mice. This is serious manufacturing flaw that needs a retro fitted air intake grill to close off it's current gap that allow mice to enter the ventilation system. I have installed steel mesh to cover these large gaps (photos attached). A recall to correct this problem should be issued.
Severe damage has been done to the electrical wiring from rodents chewing the wiring.
I bought a 2016 Tundra in may of 2016. I own some ranch property in west texas. I have taken the truck there twice and both times I have had wiring damaged by rodents. So far it is up to over 800 dollars. Toyota will not warranty it.

Anytime it rains water leaks in behind the dashboard on the passenger side, leaking water through the electrical wiring and into the floorboard of the truck there are lots of wires and a blower motor in this area where fire could cause any number of unsafe conditions. The cause has been narrowed down to one or both of two things. The first is a crack that originates in the seam behind the dash board of these vehicles due to production error. The second is rotting grommet plugs under the windshield wiper cowl. The first being much more severe as it could also cause structural integrity.

My vehicle first had its wiring harness destroyed by a rodent of some sort a couple of weeks ago. After sending it to the repair shop and $7000 dollars later, I brought my truck home and everything worked fine. I tried many remedies to discourage the rodents from returning but nothing seems to deter them from the soy based insulation on my trucks wiring harness. I now have to send my truck back for repairs to the same wiring harness ($7000) as before, and also another wiring harness which will probably cost close to the same. How can Toyota get away with making insulation out of rodent food when these wires operate the abs braking system? this practice not only puts a financial burden on the owner but also compromises their safety.
The off-road wiring harness box was replaced in 2012 by recall still having problem with this unit can not get it to work. Toyota says only 1 yr warranty. Also tail light bulb will not stay in place keeps falling out so you have no back up light or parking light when falls out. Both have had recalls but still do not work. What are you suppose to do. Thank you.

The body of the truck is designed to allow rodents/mice into the cab where they can chew the wiring which will lead to a variety of problems. The truck currently has about 3300 miles on it. When I contacted the dealer they said yeah all these trucks have this, what has been damaged so we can get it in for repair. I asked if it was covered under warranty and they said no. Coating the wiring with a soy (mouse food) based product is insanity unless you're trying to increase your repair business. There are 16 computers in this truck that control everything. When the wiring is damaged because of this design flaw all sorts of malfunctions will occur that include steering, engine quitting, brakes failing, throttle, lights, etc. The dealer is very aware of the problem and specializes in fixing it to the tune of about $200 so far. I haven't had a wiring problem because of mice but others have. This very funny (to the dealer0 problem will eventually kill people if it hasn't already.

The abs control module will be replaced and the wiring harness may also need to be replaced. The washer fluid bottle tubes were damaged. The current and failure mileages were 82,300.
The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Tundra. The contact believed that there was a short with the electrical wiring in the vehicle. While driving 15 mph, the odometer and clock displayed inaccurate readings. He took the vehicle to the dealer for a check up. Afterwards, the brake pedal extended to the floor when it was depressed. The contact believes there may be a leak. The dealer could not find any failures with the vehicle. The VIN, engine size, and number of cylinders were unknown. Battery drains with all electrical components shut off if vehicle left sitting much over one week. After third visit to dealer, they replaced a wiring harness. The problem persists.
I bought this Toyota brand new. I have been worried about the horn on my Toyota not being very loud. This is a safety issue. I have taken the horns off and bought another set of horns that are 2 wire for connection. Your horn is one wire and the frame of the horn is the ground. Finally I figured out, after the switch, why your Toyota horn is not working or is working poorly. Your design relies on the case of the horn grounding to the frame of the vehicle for the negative pole. The whole horn is painted so there is little chance of grounding to negative pole. The mounting bracket is painted, further hampering the negative connection. The mounting bolt and frame are painted making a negative connection almost impossible. I believe this is a serious design flaw. The horn is required and should be working very well and not marginally. The horn on the Toyota is marginally safe.

: the contact stated the shift lever disintegrated off the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to the service dealer who determined they would need to replace a bracket to fix the shift lever. The vehicle was still at the dealer awaiting the repair work. The consumer stated the shifter shattered without warning and was unable to place the vehicle in gear. Updated 12/18/06. The consumer stated the problem with the accelerator began in summer of 2005. He started the vehicle stepped on the accelerator and nothing happened. He then depressed the accelerator pedal to the floor and the truck lunged forward. Only by carefully pumping the gas pedal up and down was he able to attain approximately 40 mph. The searched the internet to see if others had experienced the problem. Within in a short period of time, he found someone else who experienced the same problem. It was caused by a loose connection where the accelerator pedal position sensor wire connects to its female connector. Which was located on top of the engine. The consumer looked at the connector and it seemed connected. He pushed the connector down hard and to his astonishment it clicked into place. Which solved the problem. The consumer stated two years later, the same problem presented itself again. Once he arrived home, he clicked the electrical connector securely in place. He used some copper electrical wire and wired the connector firmly in place. The consumer stated his best guess to the problem with the connector: was the design of the plastic was faulty. The plastic tab wasn't large enough to hold it securely in the socket and over time, road vibration caused it to come loose. Also, the starter failed. Updated 03/08/10.
Engine would shut off intermittently at any speed, then finally would not start when shut off, dealer replaced fuel pump, same problem happened again in less than 1000 miles, different dealer replaced pump again, same thing happened again within 1000 miles, another dealer replaced wiring harness to pump, in less than 20 miles same thing again, this time the same dealer replaced wiring harness to engine compartment, truck made it back to office, unknown if this fix will work.
Contact states water enters the water tight joints in the wiring harness. This causes the pins to corrode and shorts out the rear tail light. The vehicle has been to dealership, but the vehicle is no longer under warranty and there have been no repairs made. Updated 1/11/2006.
