Failure Date: 04/11/2012

I sent in my Toyota Tundra for a safety recall the ssc 90-m recall and the dealership did nothing but spray crc over the rust when I brought it to there attention that the fuel straps were not changed or the spare tire that has previously dislodged from the vehicle was still in the bed of the truck they said it is not our problem . What action can I take on this?.

57 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2003 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 12/14/2011

I received the ssc 90m - Tundra vehicles severe corrosion of the rear cross member phase 2 - crc application. My truck has a tonneau cover and a bed rug installed. When I called the dealership to schedule an appointment they informed me that the bed of the truck would have to be removed to complete the repairs. I told them that I did not have the means to remove the tonneau cover and the bed rug. They said that they could not perform the repair without these items removed and that they would not remove them for me. I then contacted Toyota customer experience center at 800-331-4331, extension [xxx] and discussed the situation with [xxx]. She claimed that the recall letter states that the truck must be presented in "factory condition" (I guess that means no bed rug or tonneau cover). I reread the letter and that is not stated anywhere in the letter. I called her back and she was unable to assist me nor would she elevate my issue to the management level. This recall work must be done, and again, I have no means to remove these items. I'm sure that I'm not the only Tundra owner experiencing this issue. This truck will be unsafe to drive if the recall work is not done. Please help. Thank you. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

58 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2008 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 07/17/2011

Emissions valve and related pumps failed causing a significant loss in power. This happened when traveling on the high way in upstate vermont. Suddenly my truck lost significant power, and would rapidly decelarate everytime I approach a positive grade in the road. Several times during the trip I slowed down faster than cars behind me expected, and the brake lights did not warn them as it was due to the truck losing power, and not me braking. In addiiton due to the location I was at I was unable to locate a dealer for several miles. When the codes were pulled for the service engine it appeard as code p2442 (secondary air injection pump system switching calve stuck open bnks).

59 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2007 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 06/29/2011

After the dealer completed the accelerator recall, my truck now has a slight stall when taking off and if there is any roughness in driving surface, the truck does this lurching/acceleration at each bump. It's almost like when they reprogrammed the accelerator, they made it too sensitive. I wasn't having a problem with the pedal prior to their "fix" but they forced me to have the "repair" done.

60 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2008 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 03/05/2011

Check engine light, vsc light, and 4lo light illuminated while driving. Response of engine became very sluggish - described as "limp mode". Dealer diagnosed failure of air induction pump.

61 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2003 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 02/09/2011

Check engine light came on and dealer advised the fuel filler tube had to be replaced for several hundred dollars. This seems to happen in most 2003 Tundra according to research. Because truck has 136,000 miles, dealer refused to provide any help with cost of labor or parts. Dealer did acknowledge this has been a problem for 2003 models. So much for Toyota dependability.

62 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2010 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 01/05/2011

Toyota 2010 Tundra 4. 6l double cab vehicle. Extremely sensative gas pedal. Nearly impossible to accelerate from complete or slow rolling stop without lurching ahead quickly. Nearly impossible to accelerate smoothly without wheel spin in wet or snow covered roads making this a safety hazzard. It is also a safety hazzard because I cannot back up or go forward safely in parking situations or parking lots. If there is anyone ahead or behind the truck - even for a considerable distance, I do not drive the truck because I cannot be sure it won't move ahead or behind uncontrolably. Toyota dealer knows of this problem and I have notified Toyota. Dealer re-synked gas pedal to engine drive by wire components but problem still exists. I suspect it is a problem with the digital encoder on the gas pedal, the computer software in the ecu, and the stepper motor operating the throttle butterfly on the air intake. Service manager at local dealer witnessed my driving the truck and symptoms, then drove the truck and experienced the symptoms. He offered no solution. The problem is not constant. Sometimes it is extreme, other times it is less. But the gas pedal is always very sensitive. Truck was acquired used with 6,700 miles on it and now has 8,000 miles of use. Engine runs smoothly, starts quickly, gets rated gas mileage, and drives smoothly once in motion.

64 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2008 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 05/23/2010

Approximately two weeks ago I was pulling out of the ball park here in beckley west virginia when I began to accelerate my 2008 Toyota Tundra. The vehicle began accelerating higher and higher on its own sending me and my daughter on a 70 mph ride. The only way I could stop was to put both feet on the brake and put vehicle into neutral, eventually the pedal became unstuck and I drove the vehicle to my place of work less than a mile away and parked it. I called Toyota and they towed the vehicle in. This incident occurred after the safety recall. Toyota at this time cut the gas pedal in two and added cheaper floor mats. They said this was the problem. Today I was taking my children to school and was going up a hill. I depressed the gas pedal and had no acceleration. I gently rolled back down the hill and got the vehicle on the level and then took another route. I feel this vehicle is not safe. Its not the floor mats or the size of the pedal it is in the wiring, computer, or something. Both incidents were fortunate that no vehicle was in front of me or behind me. I called Toyota today about this second incident and all they could tell me was to call the 1 800 number. I explained I didn't feel safe in this vehicle, knowing that im putting myself and others on the highway in harms way. This is my mode of transportation so unfortunately I cant just stop driving it.

65 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2007 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 05/01/2010

I had my truck in for service and they fix the gas pedal which has made it worse. The truck hesitates then lurches ahead. It happens all the time. Also the transmission is making a banging noise and doesn't shift right. It bangs on acceleration and deceleration have had it to the dealers shop and they acknowledge the problem but won't fix it.

66 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2010 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 03/23/2010

In March 2010, I purchased a new Toyota Tundra 2010 crewmax 5. 7l truck fully loaded with navigation system, remote start, and guidepoint (lojack like) system from expressway Toyota in dorchester, MA. The truck was supposedly manufactured in February 2010 and had the revised gas pedal. On March 23, the incident below occurred. Was driving to work from reading, MA to charlestown, MA (about 13 miles) on Tuesday, March 23. It was a rainy day and traffic was heavy. I had the defroster and wipers on and was stuck in traffic on a busy main street about 10 miles into the trip. The car in front of me started to move forward slowly so I took my foot off the brake to also move forward slowly. That other car was about 10 feet in front of me. I barely touched the gas pedal when the truck took off at full acceleration. I got on the brake as heavy as I could and the truck fish tailed side to side. I quickly put it into neutral and then park while the truck was still revving at full acceleration. While it was in park and engine still going full speed I tapped the gas pedal with my foot and it released. I was very lucky I didn't crash into anything. I did smell a burning odor once I got the truck under control. I'm not sure if that was the tires, brake pads or something else.

68 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2007 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 03/06/2010

The Toyota Tundra 2007-2010 carry a major saftey issues all over the net, under error code p2415 or p2440 or p2441 or p2442 series of errors, which prevent the truck from accelerating or stopping properly for that matter. I was towing when the check engine light came out while driving ( I mean driving) on the hwy, towing somewhat a heavy load & all of sudden while going uphill the engine just lost power instead of me going forward I got stuck, and if it was not for the other drivers being aware I would have been severly injured or killed along with my four kids,to make a miserable long story short,I find out this proplem is amajor issue and a defect in Toyota Tundras, and it cost consumer like me $3500 up to $5000 to fix it involve an air supply unit to the engine to shut down. . . . . . . I need to get this issue to be looked at I have four kids were riding with me that day. . . . I cant believe the damage I avoided & the concept behind this stupid design. I urge you as an american to look into this issue I am providing you a link for that matter . And please let me know what action I can take against Toyota to fix this saftey issue. . Read more...

69 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2005 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

Sitting in traffic, the engine revved up by itself on my 2005 Toyota Tundra sr5 v8. Problem was abated by turning engine off and restarting. This problem resulted in a mil error that side b of the engine was running lean. After completing an analysis of the problem, the findings are that the oxygen sensors are not responding to specification. It is my firm belief that the firmware on the ecm does not self check for runaway conditions.

70 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2007 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 01/21/2010

Referring to the January 21, 2010 Toyota recall of certain late model vehicles due to a accelerator pedal . . . I am the original owner of a 2007 Toyota Tundra with approximately 41k miles. I have experienced vehicle behavior consistent with that resulting from a stuck accelerator . . . Both in forward and reverse . . . On at least three occasions. After reading of Toyota's recall, I contacted the phone number on Toyota's web site and their representative denied that there was a recall. Another Toyota representative was aware of the recall and provided the name of a local dealer . . . Their service manager also denied that there was a recall even when I read the recall notice from the Toyota's web site! she even tried to convince me that I have a mechanical problem and would have to pay to have my vehicle fixed! this lack of internal communication is unacceptable!.
