I had a strong gasoline odor while in the vehicle. I put the truck in park, got out while the vehicle was running and noticed a fuel mist and fuel streaming down the fuel tank to the ground. When I shut off the truck, the stream slowed to a drip and then stopped. Fuel had sprayed under the frame and onto the exhaust pipe, luckily it did not ignite. This occurred within the same day. Toyota found that the main fuel line coming out of the fuel tank had failed with a pin hole forming. P/n 77209-0c010 (tube sub-assy, fuel). It is a rubber fuel line. Toyota dropped the fuel tank in order to change the fuel line. It was not covered under the corrosion recall since it was a rubber fuel line. I feel there should be a recall, it could have turned out to be a total loss of the vehicle and possible life had the fuel stream ignited.

There is a flawed design of the fuel filler neck causing the check engine light to come on. Service advisor stated that it was a known problem but because my warranty was out, they would not cover the repair which ended up costing me $462. 32. My mileage is only 14,500.

The contact owns a 2003 Toyota Tundra. The contact noticed that the main frame of the vehicle was perforated due to severe rust corrosion. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection and they replaced the rusted fuel tank filler neck. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer on a separate occasion. The technician detected a rusted brake backing plate, and the front and rear brakes were replaced. In addition, four new tires were mounted on the vehicle. The technician was unable to perform a tire alignment due to the significant frame damage. The VIN was unable to be entered into the system. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 62,000.
When fueling the vehicle, the filler nozzle will eject from the vehicle when the nozzle shuts the fuel off upon filling the tank. I have had one instance of the filler spout ejecting before the tank filled.

I took my 2003 Toyota Tundra in to Toyota motors, guam because I had a check engine light. Toyota then sent a message to my vehicle service contract, warrantech automotive inc and they said that the fuel filler neck hose assembly was not covered. Reading information on the internet indicates that this is a common problem with the 2003 Toyota Tundra due to a "out of round" gas filler tube. There should be a recall on this part. Please assist consumers like myself for Toyota motors to investigate this defect with the 2003 Toyota Tundra. The word needs to get out.
Fuel tank filler was giving as the reason of my trucks problem before it was looked at by a technician. I was told that this was a common problem with these trucks. The fault would cause the emissions system to fail and therefore would also be a hazard because it could cause a fire at the time the truck was being filled or from escaping vapors. The part was (is) being replaced and is costly to the consumer.
There is a flawed design of the fuel filler tube causing an intermittent check engine light. This is a known problem that Toyota has with its 2003-2004 Tundras. The problem affects fuel vapor emissions from the gas tank. They offer no support once one is out of warranty even though they are aware of their faulty design/build of this part.
At 25000 miles the check engine light came on in my 2002 Toyota Tundra. Took it to the dealer for service, was advised that the repair would cost $300 to fix. The problem is emissions related and attributed to a defective part ( fuel filler neck ). There is a Toyota TSB out describing this problem.
