2 Carrier/rack problem of the 2015 Toyota Venza

Failure Date: 06/27/2020

Driving down the highway and coming to a stop sign there was a sudden explosion. . . It sounded like a tire exploded but louder. I stopped at the stop sign and got out of my car and walked around the vehicle for a busted tire, but then I saw that my sunroof was continuing to crack. . . The sunroof had exploded. I walked to the vehicle that had stopped behind me and asked them if they had seen anything hit my car and they said no. My sunroof continued to shatter as I drove home. Frightening situation! Toyota needs to recall their sunroofs because I've seen several on this site as having experienced this same problem.

3 Carrier/rack problem of the 2009 Toyota Venza

Failure Date: 04/21/2018

On 4/21/2018, I was driving at 75 mph down a mountain freeway in arizona from 5600 elevation to 2300 ft when my sunroof blew a hole out from the center of the middle lane of glass. The whole pane cracked and began to disintegrate. Thankfully the sunroof and protective cover were closed. At first I thought a rock had somehow caused the break until the tow truck driver pointed out that the edges of the glass were pushing upward indicating the glass blew upwards from the cabin. This is the second time this has happened. The first time was on a city street at 40 mph in colorado at 6000 ft elevation. Toyota no longer makes the Venza. The glass on the sunroof should be made with a protective coating to keep it from coming apart in a thousand pieces.
