My vw Beetle has pushbutton start. The ignition can turn off when not in park. This was called a rollaway problem in keyed ignition models, but not pushbutton. I took it to dealer and they said not covered by warranty and no recall. This is as dangerous as in the keyed ignition model. I saw a report of a similar rollaway that vw refused to cover. Also, apparently pushed button while underway. Engine stopped while in traffic. Rolled to side of road and restarted without incident.

After parking vehicle in a parking lot, manipulated gear shift from drive to park. Left vehicle and continued business. When returning to parking lot, vehicle was no longer in the parking spot but had rolled backwards into the travel lane of the lot. Started vehicle and attempted to move but could not move gear shift lever to drive or reverse. Was then I noticed that while the gear shift lever was in the park position, the instrument cluster display indicated it was in neutral. Could not adjust gear shift at all. Had vehicle towed to shop and was informed the gear shift cable had broken. Vehicle was repaired however cable alone could not be replaced. Had to purchase complete gear shift lever assembly due to vw replacement parts policy.

Component or system failure: the specific component that failed or malfunctioned in my 2015 vw Beetle 1. 8t classic pzev is the timing belt, which caused bent valves resulting in the engine seizing up, rendering it inoperable. It is available for inspection upon request. Safety implications: the failure of the engine posed a significant risk to my safety and the safety of others. When the engine failed while I was driving on the freeway, it resulted in a sudden loss of power and alarming knocking sounds. This sudden loss of power on a busy highway endangered my life and the lives of other drivers around me. Confirmation by dealer or service center: the problem has been confirmed by a Volkswagen dealership. I had the vehicle towed to bill marines Volkswagen dealership for diagnosis, and they assessed that the engine had "jumped time" and the valves were bent, rendering the car undrivable. Inspections by manufacturer, authorities, or others: the vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer or any other relevant authorities at this point. However, I have sought assistance and evaluation from a Volkswagen dealership, which is an authorized service center for the brand. They were the first to diagnose the catastrophic engine failure. Warning lamps, messages, or symptoms: prior to the engine failure, there were no warning lamps or messages indicating a problem. There were no noticeable symptoms or signs of an impending failure. The failure occurred suddenly while driving on the freeway, without any prior indication of trouble. Please let me know if there is any additional information or documentation required to assist with the investigation. I am committed to providing accurate and reliable information to support the resolution of this matter.

I wasa driving and the engine lost power and everything shut down. Aoll the lights came on on the dashand it jujst stop power the stearing wheel locked . I was in a residential neighborhod going speed limit if I had been on the freeway I dont know what would of happen , im scared to drive my car now.
When decelerating all power shuts off. This has happened on an off ramp (7-5-19), going to start to go though a green light (7-15-19), while driving in my subdivision (7-16-19)and today (6-27-20) on a busy highway and now will not stay operational in the driveway.
Car hesitated two different times when pulling into traffic. The transmission 'grabbed' within 3 or 4 seconds. Each time I came close to having an accident, but didn't thanks to the alertness of other drivers.

Driving my 2004 Volkswagen Beetle is dangerous. The tiptronic transmission in the 2004 vw Beetle is known by Volkswagen to be defective. At any point the valve body can fail, which causes delayed shifting, and hard jerking between gears. My 2004 Beetle fails to shift when accelerating between 2nd and 3rd gear. This causes the vehicle to coast for several seconds, sometimes requiring pulling off the road because of traffic. When downshifting it jerks extremely hard. You get in, start the engine, and receive no warnings that anything is wrong with the vehicle. No check-engine light provides any indication that the vehicle is dangerous. You drive down some city streets and hop onto the freeway to go to your favorite grocery store. After getting off the freeway the car is fully warmed up, and as it downshifts from 4th to 3rd gear it lurches. It feels like the engine is trying to jump out of the car! no engine light comes on. Then you stop at the end of the off-ramp, and wait for a traffic light to turn. After turning the car shifts from 1st to 2nd gear. Then it fails to shift from 2nd to 3rd gear. The gear doesn't engage, and the car coasts down the road without any power. Drivers passing by are staring. The SUV behind you is right on your butt; they begin honking. There's nothing you can do. Finally, after 20 seconds of coasting the car enters 3rd gear with a giant lurch. It feels like it's going to explode! you pull into the grocery store parking lot, heart racing, knowing that the car you're driving almost caused an accident that could kill a half a dozen people. And you know to get home it's going to happen all over again. This problem is reported by hundreds of owners. This is an extreme safety hazard. Volkswagen needs to recall the affected vehicles and pay damages for those whose transmissions were destroyed by this defective valve body and transmission.

The contact owns a 2015 Volkswagen Beetle. While accelerating from a stop light, the vehicle began to hesitate. The vehicle was taken to findlay north Volkswagen (located at 7500 w azure dr, las vegas, nv 89130, (702) 982-4800) to be diagnosed, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 22,000.
2004 Beetle with 85,000 miles hard shifting down - it jerks from gear to gear until it comes to full stop. . Now while upshifting it couldn't make it out of 3rd gear and have almost been rear ended 3 times. Car jerks ,shudders, lurches . Transmission problem is consistent with low mileage vw Beetles.
On 11/3/2018 at around 11:00pm, I was driving my 2003 Volkswagen Beetle on the highway (90e towards cleveland) going 65mph. Suddenly, my automatic transmission popped out of gear and hard downshifted. This caused a drastic reduction in speed, and I was almost hit by a semi-truck which was behind me . Luckily, the driver of the semi was alert and swerved out of the way just in time. This isn't the first time that this auto trans has acted up either. However, this is the first time where I really could have been seriously hurt or killed as a result of it. This transmission is faulty, the symptoms point to a malfunctioning valve body unit, and there needs to be an investigation or a recall. How many people have gotten into accidents, hurt, or even killed because of this bad automatic transmission (jerking/popping out of gear at random) not shifting properly? enough is enough!.
. Gets stuck randomly in 1st gear . . . Some of the time it shifts but if I leave it running in park for a few minutes (especially then) or when it warms up nicely and I then have to slow down into 1st like at a light after I exit the highway and then try to drive again it won't shift out of first . And. I know when it's about to start this because it starts shifting so hard the car lurches (sometimes so roughly that if I hadn't made sure to be extra far away from any vehicles in front of me then my car would have leaped right into theirs - even if I am braking) very scary:( and I feel unsafe especially when it lurches badly and also when the car stops gaining speed because it got stuck in 1st and the cars behind me almost run right over me ) from what I've read while researching this, this issue is a well known defect. V w made a minuscule effort to address it . . . An extended warranty which is useless because it doesn't cover fixing the damage to the transmission that this defect causes, leaving us owners to have buy a new transmission basically because of this known defect. Vw should fix it since they clearly know about this as a defect. It effects new Beetles years 2003 to 2007! and in my research it is clear that many many 03-07 new Beetle owners have very similar problems and most feel like I do. . . That these cars are scary and unsafe to drive. Vw is aware of this but doesn't care so I implore you to please take a deep and serious look into this problem and help make vw take responsibility and fix this dangerous and unpredictable defect. Thank you very much and look forward to hearing from you. Respectfully, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The car downshifts into a lower gear with a 'hard' sound. Sometimes after the car is warm it takes a moment to go into gear from a fast speed to a slow or stop.
The car runs fine while it is cold but when it warms up then it begins to "jerk", shift up and down "hard". We were told it was a tiptronic switch was bad so we replaced it and now we are told that the valve body transmission is bad. The car has less then 100k miles on it. This is a safety concern as we have almost been rear-ended when the car began jerking.
Tl the contact owns a 2003 Volkswagen Beetle. While the vehicle was at a stop light, the brake pedal was applied; however, the vehicle failed to stop and rolled back. Key is stuck in the ignition and the car will not power off, not even after taking out the battery. Vw told me they had no idea how to help me and had never seen this happen before. When I look it up online, this is a common problem with Beetles and jettas.
Tl the contact owns a 2004 Volkswagen Beetle. While driving 60 mph, the battery and abs indicators illuminated and the vehicle downshifted into first gear. The vehicle seized and was moved to the side of the road. The contact attempted to restart the vehicle, but was unsuccessful. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the wire harness failed and needed to be replaced. The fuse box was replaced three times, but the failure recurred. Leith Volkswagen of cary (2300 autopark blvd, cary, nc 27511, (919) 842-5624) and the manufacturer stated that the VIN was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 157,000.
My 2006 vw Beetle only has 64,000 miles on it, has received regular maintenance, and the transmission went out. This mechanical breakdown is premature for the miles and care this car has.
Key got stuck in the ignition and would not turn for it to power off. No release in the car to get the key out therefore the car would not shut off even with the battery disconnected.
Hard shifting from first to second, and second to third and when car downshifts thru 1-2 2-3 just had transmission fluid replaced by dealer. Just found out on line this problem has happened since 2003 till 2016 in Beetles.
Auto trans slips when shifting from 1-2 and 2-3 and it also makes car jump forward when it shifts into gear moving fwd. This is a safety problem vw has had since 2003but does not accept blame for problem at 87,000 had fluid changed and problem started it seems vw doesn't care just like airbag and diesel problems.
Transmission locks up, noisy upshift and downshifts. While driving unpredictable gear shifts.
Takata recall on 8/13/16 while driving this vehicle without warning, the engine shuts off. I was traveling about 45 mph on a city street and as I attempt to move over the engine shut off and I could not steer the vehicle. After coming to a complete stop I was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle did this several more times before I was to send it back to the car lot. I was told that the crank shaft was repaired on the vehicle. On 9/13/2016 (1month later) while traveling south on a busy city street at approximately 45 mph, in front of an 18 wheeler this car shut of and immediately restarted on its very own. I moved over to a slower lane to prevent any accidents. I proceeded to my destination and without any warning the vehicle engine shut off again, only this time I had to manually restart the vehicle. I parked the car at an area restaurant for at least 2 hours. I went out to start the car and there was no power at all. I called tripe aaa, they checked the battery and the car still would not start. Finally a tow truck was dispatched and arrived about 15 mins after the battery check and all lights were own. In about 10 mins I attempted to start the vehicle and it started without any hesitation. I have not driven the vehicle since because I absolutely fear for my safety.
A well documented transmission problem under 100,000 miles there was a lawsuit that I was unaware of my transmission is now having this issue.

Safety recall 23r1 was received yet vw and local dealership will not make repairs stating that their needs to be an investigation and/or I need to wait until I have issues. The notice states that it can "lead to a crash without warning". However, they insist that I continue to drive my car they have determined to be unsafe. The dealer says they have no knowledge of the recall and vw refuses to send parts to my local shop to have it fixed stating again that I need to wait until I have an issue. We have spent hours on the phone trying to get this resolved and vw continues to brush us off and telling us they will resolve it tomorrow. I drive 200-500 miles a day for work around the state and do not feel safe driving my car that could unknowingly crash at any moment. If this was not a safety concern, vw would not have issued a safety recall. Per their documents sent to national highway traffic safety administration: the camshaft lobe that can break off drives the brake vacuum pump, and if the problem occurs drivers would lose power assistance and suffer reduced engine performance.
My transmission went out all at once my airbag/seatbeilt light on all the time.
