For the past 3-4 years my Beetle has had worsening electrical issues. Sometimes it just turns off all by itself. Everything electrical goes out. It has even happened while driving, I was in traffic and it shut off. I was nearly killed.

The contact owns a 2004 Volkswagen Beetle. While driving at any speed, when the vehicle slowed down to approach a stop sign or traffic light, it would downshift independently. The vehicle became inoperable and had to be pulled over, turned off, and restarted. The mechanic stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified and the vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.
We have purchased this 2003 Beetle bug for my daughter and the transmission is hard shifting and down shift really bad. After doing research on this model and year. There as been nothing but complaints about the transmission (valve body). My understanding the extended the warranty for 7 years and 100,000 miles. This Beetle bug only has 86560. We can't even drive this car. I can't believe with all the issue that volswagon has had with transmission there is no recall on this. This is a major safety issue while driving this car.

When vehicle is shifting from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd there is a pause between gears and then it bangs when it finally catches. It seems this is an ongoing problem with vw. I'm picking my car up tomorrow after the replacement of the automatic transmission valve body. I don't understand how this problem has not been recalled with so many complaints including a class action law suit the vw agreed to extend the warranty to replace the valve body. However, I was told by my dealer that my VIN was not included in the extended warranty and it would cost $1800 to replace. There is obviously a problem with this component and vw needs to be held accountable for these repairs.

I am the 2nd or 3rd third owner, and I should have checked this car out further, since whomever ('s) sold it too me didn't tell me a damn thing was wrong with the car. I am so disgusted about this incident of buying basically a lemon from dishonest creeps. I only drove it once before I handed over every hard earned penny I had saved over such a lengthy time due to the fact I am a struggling single mother. I don't get child support nor welfare, thank you! I paid all I had literally ever saved up ever in my whole life. (yes I am that poor to be quite frank) I paid $4500 for a 2001 vw new Beetle. I have always only ever heard excellent things of vw's, there for I just pray and wish that vw would help!!!!!!!!!!!! now I am without transportation to get to and from work, as well as my children to and from school. I can't even drive to get groceries or anything! help!! why can't vw at least pay to have it fixed? I am just to poor. I am looking into a law suit. Dishonest vw, why can't you just be honest and fix your error and wrong doing? they sell these Beetles knowingly to innocent trusting families, single moms, etc: etc;, and that alone I believe should be grounds enough for a hell of a law suit. They knowingly put women, children, and innocent people's lives in serious danger with no conscience what so ever. Buying a vw is like playing russian roulette. For you, your children, your family, loved ones and friends. Hell even innocent by standers and passer byes. Fix my Beetle evil creeps. May god deal with you eventually either way amen!.

Vehicle engine stopped while driving. Battery dead, no power in vehicle at all. Found melted battery fuse box under hood. Root cause determined to be corrosion on alternator power supply cable that created heat enough to melt plastic (~450f) and burn the protective cover off the alternator supply wire back 2 inches. Poor contact due to corrosion caused battery to drain, which eventually could no longer sustain engine ignition. No warning lights prior to engine stopping. No battery power also means no power steering, no power brakes, no airbags during collision. Online forums indicate this is happening to a lot of people. It would appear to be as deadly as the gm ignition switch issue, but it is not being taken seriously by vw.

While driving the engine rpm's will go extremely high followed by a thump sound as if fthe car jumps back into gear. Vw of America issued extended warranty which expired in February 2014. It was determined that a valve in the transmission is bad so an extension was issued on the warranty but owners were not told of this and had to have car problems since there was no other to take the car in for any repair of the transmission. A recall notice should have been issued since numerous owners have had this issue which is costing thousands per car to correct.
I am including my complaint after reading all the complaints from other people who have unfortunately bought this car. This car has been a money pit and one issue after another. They are not safe cars. We got a total clear inspection from the vw dealer ( of course) and then there was some sort of oil leak, which we spent 2k fixing, then the drivers side window just decided to stop working and the entire window had to be duct taped up in the dead of winter until we could order a replacement , then the controller need to be replaced ($500) then the car started lurching non stop and now we are told it needs a new transmission. Seriosuly? vw needs to address the transmission issues in this car and they need to be recalled. They are a safety issue. We bought the car for $5500 and have about another 4k into it. I would never recommend this car to anyone. Please do something and make vw take a closer look at the lemons they are selling people. I will now have to scrap this car, because it's not safe. Especially the transmission issue. . . . . . How can it be ignored with so many people having the same exact issue with the transmission?.
Car has sudden jerky when shifting also rear windows will not roll up or down. Dealership said needs new transmition but have only had car 8 months. The windows quit working after owning it for one week cost 400 just to fix one window. Dealership estimate to fix transmition 6700. Oo.
While driving around a corner the battery indicator light came on, power steering went out and no acceleration. It did not appear that the engine stalled. The light went out and the power steering and acceleration came right back without touching the ignition key. My daughter almost lost control of the vehicle. No other dash warning lights came on other than the battery indicator. This car is a deathtrap!.

Severe burned diesel fumes infiltrateing the cabin of the car while driving.
2007 Beetle convertible shifts hard (violently) from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd gear in standard mode and sport mode. This has been an ongoing problem while the vehicle is warm. Contacted local dealer and was told since there weren't any codes present, that I did not have a problem. Last week the car stalled while trying to accelerate onto the highway. I managed to steer off the highway onto the shoulder to avoid a collision. Vw of America is aware of this problem but will not resolve their manufacturing issues. This issue poses a serious threat to occupant safety.
Vw has a history of automatic transmission issues with several of their cars. Our car started experiencing issues with shifting up and down. We have experienced this issue for about 30k miles ago. It has progressively gotten worse. As we starting investigating if there were others experiencing they same issue, we have learned that vw knows of this problem and has offer to many to replace the valve body of the transmission, which has been determined to be the issue. We contacted vw today to see if they would do the same for our vw and they said no. We are looking for some help with this issue.

I acquired my vehicle on 7/29/2010 as a high school graduation gift with 31,290 miles on it. As of December 2013 my vehicle has been experiencing hard shifting issues. 12/15/2013 I took the vehicle to vw for hard shifting issues when decelerating. Vw indicated that the vehicle had an extended warranty for the part causing the hard shifting issues. When the coverage information was pulled up for the auto trans valve body aq-250 warrant ext. The end date of the warranty was on 9/27/2011 or the end mileage of 100,000 miles. Vw dealership was unable to do anything because of the end date, so I proceeded to call 1-800 vw number only to be told that nothing could be done even though I was never experiencing any issues at the time or had any knowledge of the extended warranty. I had my vehicle for only a year. When experiencing this hard shift issue while decelerating the car feels as if someone has rear-ended me and driving this vehicle with this bad valve body is a nightmare, so the car has been stuck in my garage for a couple months now. I have read of many complaints about this same issue and vw quoted me for the valve body replacement of about $1,832. 26. This is issue should be resolved and all consumers should be compensated because of this defect.
The contact owns a 2008 Volkswagen Beetle. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the vehicle jerked violently as the engine rpms increased. The contact mentioned that the failure would recur when the gears were shifting upward. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the valve body was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 104,000.
Car slipped completely out of gear when shifting from 3rd gear to 4th gear. It continues to do this when the car has completely warmed up. Going out of gear essentially makes us a sitting duck on the highway for a rear end collision. Very much a safety issue for the children riding in the back seat.
Simply what happen was I bought the wrong car it seems. One night I was driving to work and all the sudden as I press the accelerator I notice the car was just revving and not going anywhere at all and on the gauge cluster the pnrds was flashing so I put my hazards on and moved into the breakdown lane and waited for a tow truck.
Vehicle lurches forward when starting from stop. Lurching is severe and becomes worse and transmission warms. Transmission is dsg type of automatic.
Transmission hard shifts between 2nd and 3rd. The gas pedal also fails to respond at certain times leading to hesitation during acceleration and also while driving at speed. We have been advised by the dealer that the transmission must be replaced, and that it is not covered under warranty. This transmission problem has been described by various owners and vw has yet to acknowledge that there is a design flaw with this type of transmission.
I was driving down the road and as it shifted into 5th I felt a bang. It felt as though someone ran into the rear of my car. It snapped my neck hard. It keeps doing this. I took it back to where I bought it and they said they could find nothing wrong with it.
The contact owns a 2003 Volkswagen Beetle. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the vehicle stalled. The contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic for a diagnostic test and the mechanic stated that the power train had failed. The contact had the transmission replaced. The contact did not call the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 36,000. Updated 11/15/cn.
Vehicle is unsafe and a potential liability to drive due to a faulty transmission valve body. I am the second owner and purchased the certified vehicle through an authorized vw dealer. Vw failed to notify me of an available extended warranty of a recognized issue with the vehicle. I tried reaching out to vw but they refuse to offer any repairs and notified me on the letter that "it is our hope the previous owners pass the information to you". This is an unacceptable response and I am appalled by their decision. Any assistance would be appreciated.
I am the third owner and I should have cked this car out since the person who sold it too me didnt tell me a thing about the car. I am so dicusted about this adorable looking car. I only drove it once and took it too our mechanic. Wished I had taken it there first$800. 00 later and just the beginning! I paid too much to begin with. Ipaid $4500 for a 2003 vw because it was cute! so I wish vw would help us american people. I want to drive my car but have only driven it once. ! help !! still at the mechanics! wish people could be honest ! this would not happened in the 60"s . We have a good mechanic! thank god!.
I found out today that my 2004 vw Beetle has a faulty transmission valve body. Upon researching it more, it became clear that vw was aware of this problem and denied any responsibility in correcting the problem. Additionally, vw continued to produce cars for years with the defective transmissions. I bought the car used in 2011, which was already out of warranty. I had no knowledge of this problem until last month when it started lurching and shifting hard. My car has fewer than 55,000 miles, and is only driven to work and back (9 miles a day). It was not until I read the enormous amount of complaints that I found out that this problem was not isolated to my car. I am shocked that vw will not correct an expensive and debilitating issue with their cars that causes transmissions to shut down. This problem should not be happening to a car with low miles and is not normal wear and tear. Vw refuses to take responsibility and basically told me they would not do anything to help. I am hoping this complaint will force them to correct this known problem with any vw Beetle produced in the years (2003-2010) that has this defect. It is the safe and right thing to do.

We bought the car everything was fine. Two weeks later the engine light comes on and now the transmission takes off in second gear and will not shift till gets up to 40 mph. After checking on line it seems Volkswagen is having issues with the transmissions and doing anything about it.

Was driving my Beetle convertible at around 40mph there was a car that stopped in front of me and I started slowing down as the transmission down shifted it jerked so hard it made me go into oncoming traffic and almost have a head on collision vw is aware of these cars doing this and warrantied the valve body's but when I called and told them about mine they said I was to late that the warranty was over!!! this is a very serious issue and could result in people being killed vw didn't even offer me the part to pay someone to fix my car so now it sits in the yard and I can not drive it due to I have children and I'm scared it will gets us in a very bad accident and harm us! there needs to be a recall for this before so many people are hurt!!!! step up vw and do what's right!.
This convertible only has 6,000 miles and we get this cel code (check engine light) of p0456 (evaporative emission system leak detected (very small leak). Took it to vw in March 2013 when it was under warranty and they did something with the valve and reset the cel. The same code came back in late may 2013. Our 3-year 50,000 miles warranty expired by then. The vw dealer wanted to charge us $140 for just diagnostic before fixing the same problem again. I bought a new gas cap and reset the cel and it still came back. Some thing in this car needs a recall.

The contact owns a 2003 Volkswagen Beetle. The contact stated that the transmission would not shift and would exhibit an abnormal banging sound. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was determined that there was an internal problem and the transmission would need to be replaced. The failure mileage was 79,000 and the current mileage was 82,200.
While driving the vehicle unexpectedly and erratically down shifts or hard up shifts, creating an unsafe condition.
