My VIN number on car is different from the VIN number on motor. I just found this out about one month ago. I wasn't told this when I bought the vehicle. . So, I don't know if this is a big problem or not. Its a 2005 vw, with a 2004 engine from a slavage yard, bandb, or b and r?? this caused me great alarm. The wiring since had to be done about 2 weeks ago. Also, the belly pan had been missing. I had it fixed. And the headlights had to be repaired too. This car has cost me thousands in repairs since purchase. And I don't have more thousands to put in it. Please help I hope the car in excellent shape now. Also, I noticed the dip stick broke to oil check and hadn't been prior to my acknowledgement. Also, the car has a soft top and I was told was newly replaced in 5/2018. But it seems to have a different look inside then a tight shape regarding top, and I don't know if this should be or not.

The headlamps have been replaced four times. According to a vw dealership who serviced the vehicle, I was informed that the vehicle's wiring harness is defective, causing the headlights and instrumentation cluster to fail. The dealership informed me that they are aware of the wireing harness problem, but are not aware of any service recalls.

Seat belt/air bag light came on. Took to local, qualified mechanic. They said only vw dealer could fix and reset. Dealer said it was lower seat belt harness ($380), but could be more (above $800) and the service writer encouraged us to do the more expensive work. Told them to do the harness and see if light would go out, which it did. Light came back on around 12/10/2010 at approximately 79,000 miles. Just prior to this, we purchased another vw Beetle, a 2003 convertible with 69,500 miles with the seat belt/airbag light on. Seller said he could not get it fixed by his mechanic and had to have vw dealer repair it for around "$380", maybe more. Since he made other repairs, we let it go. Now we have two to fix at the mercy of the vw dealer. My concerns are several:
1. This is a recurring problem for us and for numerous others (vw Beetle forum)
2. The repairs can only be completed by a high cost vw dealer and the computer reset by them only
3. The materials appear to be deficient/defective and the engineering of the harness/wiring system substandard
4. Repairs need to be made in the 60-85,000 mile range - a contrived maintenance/repair item that brings windfall revenue/profit to vw dealers in the $400-1,000 range per occurrence when many of the cars are worth only $4,000-7,000. 5. Since it is a basic safety item and we don't know if the airbag system works or not, we are forced to repair this problem because it makes us appear as if we are negligent when in fact this problem should not exist and be covered by the manufacturer like emission systems to well past 100-150,000 miles. In summary, vw has colluded with its dealers to create this situation and allow this "repair" to emerge as a way to generate revenues and profits on cars that would normally not have a reason to be brought in to a vw dealer. It is non-competitive, fraudulent and unnecessary.

Purchased 1999 vw Beetle 20 months ago. Car has only 54,000 miles. Since owning the car have already over $3,500 in repairs. All of the repairs were done at my local darcar vw repair shop. I believe some of these repairs were recalls and have all receipt. Is there someone I can sent my repair receipts to to see if I can be reimbursed for out of pocket expenses which should have been recall services? I can forward receipts. Also seven days ago the passenger side window regulator broke and it appears it had been recalled per two vw owner who had same problems but I can't find the recall information on it. Can you suggest how I can view all recalls for 1999 vw Beetle GLS?.

The car made a funny whistle noise then shut off. The person behind us said blue smoke came out the back. Took to dealer had engine, water pump, turbo and belts replaced. Now dealer can not get car to run properly. The diesel starts fine and runs great after 15 minutes car starts running sluggish and has no power. The car has been at the dealer for 4 months still waiting and still making payments on the Beetle.
Daughter's 2001 vw new Beetle, purchased pre-owned odometer reading 34908 with highest level extended warranty available. Electrical circuitry (igniter of air bag) had sporadic voltage reading. Pre-emptying warnings of air bag malfunction. The actual problem was in the electrical circuitry, however since the bottom line to correcting the electrical circuitry would rely on replacing the air bag, the warranty refuses to cover the charge. Service technician insists it is an electrical problem, which warranty does cover. . . Warranty insists the correcting of electrical circuit results in air bag replacement. . . Warranty does not state air bag coverage-therefore we will not cover expense.
I own a new vw Beetle and the instrument cluster has been giving displays that come on and off concerning the abs system, air bag and engine. I had the car looked at and was told that there is corrosion of the terminal strip from the coolant tank that is causing the problem. I was further told that and given a field service technical bulletin that outlined the problem due to a design flaw. This can be a problem as the instrument panel is unreliable and the safety systems cannot be sure to be working. I contacted Volkswagen to no avail. I would like to know what recourse I have to have a design flaw corrected?.
While parked vehicle caught on fire. Vehicle was totaled. A pedestrian informed the fire inspector that the flames was noticed coming from the driver's side of the engine. (electrical fire).
#1 my check engine light came on and they replaced a sensor and it did no good, it came on again, and they could not fix it, I took it back four times and they still did not get it fixed properly. # after that there was a problem with a noise in the front end and I told them about it and they said it was ok, but I took it back after my step dad told me to and they look at it and told me it was my sway bar and told me they had to order a new part but it was ok I told them I have two kids and I was worried about the safety of the car and they told me to take it was ok to drive . This it the fifth time it has been in the shop and I am worried about the safety of the car and want some one to check it over and clear it to drive so I don't have to worry about getting in to a accident with a unsafe car would you please help me to take care of this so I have a safe car to take my children in and don't have to worry about it going off the road .
The contact owns a 2002 Volkswagen Beetle. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the wiring harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 8,000.
1)driver's side window had difficulty going up since vehicle purchase, have to push with hand to assist. 2) just a few months after purchase sensor behind brake pedal failed, vehicle would shift from park, replaced. 3) air bag came on and then engine light soon after, catalytic converter replaced. Both warning lights off and replaced. 4) headlights are constantly blowing out, evidence of a short when replaced. Burn marks, and exposed wiring because plastic on connectors got brittle and cracked off. 5) air bag light on again, two weeks later engine light on. Told two sensors on mass air flow and some others are malfunctioning and now been replaced. Told there is a broken clock spring in steering column along with bad wiring harness, both affecting air bags. Also, told air bag is now bad and needs to be replaced because other defective components have shorted igniter in air bag out. I am a college student and cannot continue to fund repairs to this vehicle. Cannot sell either because of these problems, and now reputation of Beetle for problems. Vehicle has never been in an accident, even so much as bumped. Meticulously maintained. Dims 11 ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut-over to artemis----------------770755.

Left headlight went out first, then again. Air compressor replaced 3 times. Car now stalls. Replaced fuel/air filters, still stalls. Car was recalled for the electrical system wiring harness under hood, recall states all problems I have had. I was not the owner at time of recall. Apparently was not fixed at recall.
My 1998 Volkswagen Beetle is falling apart. I've had to replace my headlights 6 times within the past 4 years that I've owned this used vehicle. My interior trim, window switches, gearshift knob & several plastic covers in the car have fallen now fallen apart. My 6 headlights have cost me approx. $600. 00 plus rent-a-car fees which my warranty doesn't cover! please help me.
At 1 1/2 months of ownership the check engine light came on "with no fault found" took 1 1/2 years and 6 service visits to fix. The car often goes forward while in reveres and has shifting problems, have had the transmission "adjusted" 3 times still has problems. Oil light doesnt go on when oil is low. Battery light doesnt go on when the batter is dying. Wiring to headlight keeps "loosening" causing the headlights to fail. Had rear and front brakes replaced due to low ground clearance and snow getting lodged in them and freezing.
