5 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 01/21/2016

Airbag system is not recognizing occupant in front passenger seat. Airbag is off with seat occupied. Called vw customer service to ask about recall 69l6 which describes this problem and was told our VIN was not in the recall although your website gives our manufacture date of 18 July 2014 as inside the recall range. Perhaps the recall should be expanded. Airbag light on at all times.

6 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 08/14/2009

The airbag light has turned on for the second time, redering the airbags useless. I have had the airbags replaced once within the last year and a half because of the same issue. I was never in an accident and I never hit anything to cause the sensor to trigger. This seems to be a faulty part that has problems with reliability now and the bags do not deploy when they are needed. The first time this happened, the car was still under warranty. The car is now 3 months or 4,000 miles out of warranty. I am to get into an accident the bags will not deploy now. I have done nothing outside the realm of normal driving. When the parts were replaced the first time, the dealership kept the old parts. I have not taken this one in yet as I cannot afford to pay for the cost of this very expensive repair at this time.

7 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 03/25/2009

2005 vw Golf GLS. 77,661 miles. Warranty only covers 50,000. Could not afford $3,300 for extended warranty. No repairs until now. Passenger seat infrequently used. "check engine" light came on. A few minutes later "check engine" light went out and the "airbag indicator" light came on. Dealership charged me $99. 50 for diagnostic test. Result:wiring chassis to passenger side had very high resistance reading and replacement was required for the chassis and airbag (650. 00). Needed car inspection this month. Dealership stated that the error may be untrue. They erased the error and stated that if the indicator did not reappear, then there was not a problem. If it did, then the repair was mandatory to pass state inspection and provide acceptable safety for passenger. Driving home from dealership light did not appear so I had state inspection. Passed state inspection. Called dealership and vw and asked for reimbursement since this was a faulty error. Dealership and vw customer care would not refund the diagnostic cost or acknowledge that there may be an issue with the airbag system. Now I am wondering if the error is legitimate and also if my airbag system has an error. If I am in an accident, will I have a problem with my airbags deploying properly or at all?.

8 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2000 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 07/14/2008

I own a 2000 vw Golf which I purchased brand new from a vw dealer. In January of 2007 I had to replace the driver side seat airbag and wiring harness for a cost a little over $600. On 7/14/2008 my airbag light came on again. I need to have the main driver side air bag and wiring harness replaced. My car has never been in an accident, yet this is the second airbag I've replaced. I was told by the dealership, if I do not replace the airbag, it may not deploy if I am in an accident, or it could deploy when I am just driving down the road. I feel as though an airbag should last the lifetime of the vehicle, or only need to be replaced when it is actually deployed.

9 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2001 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 06/07/2005

The contact owns a 2001 Volkswagen Golf. While driving down the road passenger's side air bag deployed for no reason. There was no accident. The speed was about 45 mph. Contact did not lose control of the vehicle. The air bag light was not on prior to the deployment, but it was on now. There was someone sitting in the passenger seat and was wearing the seat belt. Currently, the seat belt will not retract. It was still the same way as if someone were sitting in the seat. One passenger sustained injuries, had burn marks on her arms. The insurance company has this incident on file. The police department stated that since contact drove vehicle away from the scene of the accident, it would be considered a do it yourself part, and she had not gotten a chance to do so yet.

10 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2001 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 06/04/2005

The contact owns a 2001 Volkswagen Golf. While driving approximately 60 mph on normal road conditions, the engine experienced low power, rough idling, and hesitation. The check engine and air bag warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The indicators remained lit until the engine was turned off. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who stated that the failures were related to the coil pack. The vehicle was repaired. On two separate occasions after the repair, the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for identical failures with no resolutions. The vehicle currently is inoperable and has not been repaired for the malfunction. The failure mileage was 90,000 and current mileage was 150,000.

11 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2001 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 04/18/2005

I bought a used 2001 vw Golf in April. The airbag light remains on when vehicle is in motion. I brought the car to a vw dealer and paid $85 for them to tell me that the airbag had high resistance and might not deploy in case of an accident. They said the harnass of the driver's side airbag need to be replaced and it would cost me $700. This is not a wearable part of the car, and is a desgin fault that may endager the life of the driver. I am wondering why I should pay for this. Shouldn't it be the responbsibility of vw to ensure that non-wearable parts remain working for quite a long time? especially if it is safety related?.

12 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2001 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 05/23/2004

1. No event applicable (I. E. No accidents, crashes or impacts) 2. Airbag light comes on 3. Vw charged $90 to tell me that it would take $715 to replace the part; my vehicle is only a 2001. Vw stated it suffered mechanical breakdown; the part is not a wearable part!!!.

13 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2001 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 09/18/2003

2001 vw Golf 2. 0l with 59k miles airbag light came on for no apparent reason at startup and would not go off. Called vw of America and was given a case number. Took vehicle to dealer and they reported that the passenger front air bag harness needed to be replaced. Waiting for vw of America response to dealership for repairs to take place.

14 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2000 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 10/30/2002

Took car to dealer because airbag light indicator on dashboard was lit- was told by technician the airbag ignitor would need to be replaced for $300. Despite the expiration of the warranty, this cost of the repair should be covered by manufacturer/dealer since this is a manufacturer defect.

15 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2000 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 01/15/2002

1. Passenger front window drops down in door. Has happened twice. There were four other people at the dealer for the same problem at the same time I was there. I was told it was an "arizona" problem and that the part that holds the window up melts and breaks. I was driving down the highway when my window fell down causing me to become distracted by the incident and nearly causing an accident. 2. Air bag light went on for no reason. Cost tom me was $618 to replace a faulty airbag and wiring harness. I believe that should be covered even out of warranty since there is nothing I could have possibly done to cause the airbag to become defective. 3. Cruise control disengages when the right turn signal is applied. This happened for months unti the cruise control went out completely. I have heard this failure is due to a ribbon cable which gets broken in the steering column. My first one broke just before the 24k warranty expired. The second one broke on schedule at about 50k. This is very dangerous since if you pas someone with the cruise control on and then use your turn signal to get back over the cruise is deactivated causing the car to abruptly slow down in front of the car you were trying to pass.
