Front Air Bag Problems of Volkswagen Golf

Airbags in the car deployed causing me to hit a curb more than once dessimating my passenger side and knocking me through a loop, my insurance company is investigating , but im not sure what the can find out ,I know Audi(part of vw) was having problems with airbags deploying because of static charge in low humidity conditions . . . Light on her dashboard came on for frontal air bags. Dealership informed consumer that frontal air bag (driver and passenger) unit had to be replaced - reason unknown. Please provide any additional information/attachments.

Consumer was traveling 5-10mph. Another vehicle ran a red light & the consumer front end hit the other vehicle's passenger side. None of the airbags deployed. Left side of the consumers vehicle was severly damaged. Dealer has to inspect vehicle for reason.
