While driving down the highway around 60 mph, nowhere near any other vehicles or pedestrians, the sunroof spontaneously shattered. The break goes outward/upward from the cabin.

The problem is component protection, when the car goes into component protection you lose a/c and defrost, crash protection, it has been see by a Volkswagen dealer.
Panoramic sunroof drains leaked water into passenger compartment down the a pillar on the drivers side. Leak was intense and occurred during rain, even light rain or mist. Material covering the a pillar was soaked through, and water droplets were dripping from the pillar onto the driver and dashboard. Water soaked the gauge cluster electronics and airbag contained within the a pillar. The electronics continued to operate, and water did not immediately cause them to malfunction. No warning lights illuminated. The windshield would become foggy any time there was moisture outside and visibility was severely reduced even when using the defroster. This occurred for the entire length I owned the vehicle, even after multiple drain cleanings at a dealer/ technician, and inspections at a Volkswagen dealer. Volkswagen and the dealer I purchased the used vehicle from were uncooperative in fixing this problem, which began within weeks of my vehicle ownership. Volkswagen dealer service department admitted this is a known issue. I took the vehicle to be inspected and repaired, which did not fix my issue after multiple attempts. I have since sold the vehicle with the known defect at a large loss because I was afraid for my safety and the safety of my family.

Was driving on the free way when suddenly heard a loud bang that sounded like a fun shot. Immediately I heard a crack and pieces of glass from my sunroof started falling into my car. Upon further inspection there was no rocks or anything in the car. Furthermore the glass seemed to be pushed outward toward the outside which made me think it exploded from defect.
The panoramic sunroof on my 2015 vw Golf se spontaneously exploded while driving approximately 60 mph on the freeway at approximately 9:15 pm on 2/27/2017 on highway 880 in oakland, about 1/2 mile south of the oracle coliseum. No cars were near me and I was not under a bridge, thus no evidence that the sunroof was struck by an external object. There was also no visible evidence of damage to the glass prior to entering the vehicle, I check every time I buy gas. The glass shattered suddenly in a loud explosion that sounded like a gunshot and shards were scattered throughout the interior of the vehicle and covered myself and my passenger - although most of the shards blew outward and landed on the road. The experience was extremely frightening and could have caused serious injuries. Luckily I was able to maintain calm and slowly drive off the freeway rather than jerking the wheel when the explosion happened. The only injuries are emotional and 12 hours later I am still finding small shards of glass on my person (hair, inside my mouth and nose, on my clothes).

I have a 2001 vw Golf GLS. One day my car's truck door can not be locked, I took it to vw dealership for inspection. Initially I though it was just some wiring problem, but after the certified vw technician checked every possible things that caused the truck lock malfunction, it was so called "comfort control module" not sending signal and electricity to the truck lock. No big deal, it's just a truck lock, no need to worry, so I refused the $900 estimated repair amount for a new comfort control module (ccm) replacement. The vw technician further explained that it was ok not to replace it if it is just the truck lock malfunction, but if anything that is acting funny such as windshield wipers not moving, doors lock by itself, power windows can not roll down, or dashboard light going on and off by itself, then it is important to replace it. No major problem for a year, then suddenly driving in the rain at night, the windshield wipers malfunction, they will not move at all. I can barely see what was in front of me in high speed on freeway in the rain. I tried to open the windows so I can see better so that I can pull over safely. I tried to lower the windows , but the windows didn't come down. I slowed down and pulled over by guessing, luckily no car was behind me or next to me. I got out and checked if there was anything wrong or what obstructing the windshield wipers. I found nothing, it just simply stop working along with my power windows. I went to the dealer after the rain and again they were caused by the malfunction ccm. Since it is not safe to drive a car without a pair of functional windshield wipers and windows, I was recommended to have the ccm replaced. I went online and found that many vw owners have some similar ccm complaints and concerns and I personally think that the ccm is a big safety concern, this is why I am filing this complaint to see if it can minimize the danger and safety. Thank you for reading.

Window regulator switches and interior lights started to malfunction early in the life of the car, starting about 2003. My passenger window fell into the door once, and the same happened for my driver side window twice. The window switches are flaky and require intense concentration to tap them just right to make the window go in the direction that you want. If you tap too strongly or too long, the windows reverse direction. This is extremely distracting and dangerous when you are trying to focus on the road. Dealership and local mechanics replaced regulator switches and motors several times, years ago. I was tired of replacing them, so now I try to use the windows as little as possible. I keep a flashlight permanently on the passenger seat to compensate for 12 years of darkness in the cabin. Alarm system occasionally chirps for no reason, as if detecting an intruder, and sometimes will not generate the beep beep when I hit the engage button on my key fob. Alarm sometimes goes off when I start the car, as if I'm carjacking my own car. I suspect the 1999 batch of Volkswagen cars had serious grounding or electrical issues. Car continues to run fine (current mileage is 392,000) despite the electrical demons, but with reduced safety and increased distractions.
