Volkswagen Jetta owners have reported 16 problems related to adaptive cruise control (under the forward collision avoidance category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Volkswagen Jetta based on all problems reported for the Jetta.
Travel assist is disabled which includes adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist. The warning lights flash on and off, sometimes multiple times a second, sounding a loud beeping each time. It is triggered at engine start and persists through all speeds. I have experienced it 0-70 mph. The flashing lights and associated rapid beeping indicating the failure is extremely distracting while driving. Warning lights and warning sounds are designed to alert the driver to a potential safety issue so ignoring the lights and sounds is dangerous in the event it is a different caution/warning. However, also not ignoring it is dangerous because of the frequency of the warnings which causes the driver to look away from the road. After speaking with the maintenance department at my vw dealership, they indicated that this is a widely known problem that is remedied only with the replacement of the steering wheel. There are several other sensors that are triggered by the same issue I was told by the maintenance department. They are uncertain at this time if it impacts the airbag system which is another potential safety concern. The steering wheel can only be ordered after inspection by the maintenance department and there is shortage and/or back order of the part to fix the problem.

Had the steering wheel replaced once for a sensor at around 38,000 miles and the issue now popped up again around 80,000 and now it’s 90,000 still there.

The car has a manual transmission. In all other vehicles I have driven with cruise control, when the clutch is depressed, the cruise completely disengages, same as a brake. When cruise control is engaged and the clutch is depressed, the cruise temporarily disengages and re-engages when put into a lower gear or the same gear. Very scary since a majority of the time, the driver is anticipating a slow down. If left out of gear for a period of time, the cruise will fully disengage. I can only guess someone copied programming for the manual transmission car from an automatic transmission car. I have reproduced this behavior multiple times. Seems unlikely to do in standard cruise control. Vw of America contacted and seemed unconcerned. Has not been brought to the dealer.
The contact owns a 2021 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed with adaptive cruise control on, the vehicle inadvertently applied the brakes completely bringing the vehicle to a complete stop in the middle of the roadway, after which the vehicle then shifted into the parked position. The contact also stated, that later while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle suddenly steered itself to the left towards oncoming traffic before the contact was able to regain control of the vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact was informed that the manufacturer was aware of possible issues with ai driving. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was not available.

The car just stated saying “drive assist not available” it beeps every 5 minutes. Dealer says might need to change steering wheel which is in back order. It’s very annoying because it makes a very loud sound while driving. I researched and seems lots of owners are having the same issue.
Car has multiple electrical issues that can affect the safety of driving. Ocu module is the main one which allows for 911 services to be called in case of an accident. This module failed in September and now it failed again in January. The cruise control also sometimes doesn't work and the front assistance sensor doesn't seem to always work as indicated in the screenshots.

Vehicle problems experienced on 7/22/23. Traveling on route 93 north to exit 17 just north of concord, nh at 8:00pm. Used cruse control for most of trip, set to 60mph and 65 mph. The distance feature was working, what a pita it is. Some where around concord, nh a warning message in orange was displayed, “engine speed max 4000” in center of display, an orange triangle with an “!” marked appeared just below the temperature gauge on left side of display, a yellow car with “!” on side appeared just below the estimated mileage remaining – it switched between that car and “epc” cruse control was no longer available stopped, checked the engine for over heating however it did not seem tooo hot, fans were not running (engine was off) started again, lights were off. Rest of trip was on local roads so never tried cruse control. Left to return home around 2:00pm all warning lights off. Some where around manchester, nh same thing happened plus orange picture of engine on right was illuminated, cruse control would not maintain speed and then said unavailable. On hills vehicle would not move along with traffic even when foot was put to the floor. Drove directly to colonial vw, did not shut vehicle off however nobody was available to read the computer codes. Scheduled appointment for Friday driving home it was almost impossible to merge onto route 93 even with accelerator pushed to floor. What ever the problem with your programming is the major fact that the vehicle is not able to keep up or merge with traffic even on local streets it a major hazard. Vw may be concerned with saving their engine – I’m concerned for my life.
My car doesn’t even have 15,000 miles on it and it started driving weird almost like the engine was stalling and the epc light came on.
The power window never works the way it is suppose to, when I row my window down it messes with the speakers for some reason, my wipes don't work all the time and freeze easy. When driving does nor like to shift out of 1st it's got that mk shifter, it will stay in first gear unless the gas is pressed and released fast also can smell like a burnt wire or/ candle was smell. When I try to put the air on the smell becomes worse.

Many fault lamps lite up on panel. List: brake light, adaptive cruise control, asc, power steering lamp, seat belt lamp and sometimes the seat belt alarm goes off when seat belt is clicked in!,abs, air bag lamp is intermittent, epc lamp is intermittent. Problems have been confirmed independent auto repair center and vista vw of pompano beach, FL. As far as safety sometimes the engine goes into limp mode during driving a few minutes after starting. Having to pull over quickly to get out of the flow of traffic. To stop the engine after a few minutes it does restart.

The contact owns a 2021 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the cruise control intermittently deactivated. The dealer was made aware of the failure; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 14,000.
Clockspring on my Jetta broke which disabled horn and cruise control functions. The safety issue is the horn. The clockspring should not fail on any car with barely 50k operating miles on it. The unit has not yet been replaced. The dashboard shows an airbag warning light. No prior symptoms.
Unknown , the vehicle is a slap shift and I can't put it in sport mode as well when driving I've been in just regular automatic it will shift slow but hard when it's in slap shift it it shifts hard and when it is in sport mode it will shift fast and hard it's like a jerk it has a very rough idol and sometimes the windshield wiper's will work sometimes they won't and my cruise control does not work and I put my code reader on it and it says $7e8 and $7e9 along with not being able to complete smog test, and it acted like it wanted to die when I was in drive through it has well over half tank gas. Also it seems to be sucking more gas and my miles are going really fait's going really fast like they're not matching what I'm actually driving.
It's the transmission when the mph needle just bob's constantly, when sometime up to 60 mph the rps stays above the three for at least 15 sec before sometimes going down others have to push the gas pedal fast to shift gears. Constant thud sound from the motor and more condensation then should be coming from tailpipe. The odor coming from the air vents is absolutely nauseating.
This engine or transmission is acting odd it boggs down for no reason and I know for a fact there should be a recall from the wiring harness back in 2011. I accidentally clicked it was fixed when I pushed the wrong button and it wouldnt let me undue it. Stalls white smoke out the tail pipes in gusts. Foul smell in vents.
