1 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 10/07/2025

Initial call out for oil change and investigation of oil consumption and knocking from engine. Upon examination in person the timing cover was found to be heavily leaking and had pools of oil around the valleys that surround it. Further examination if taking the cover off revealed metal shavings and debris caked all around the interior of the cover and deep inside the engine and oil in areas where there should not be. Even further investigations revealed that one of the bolts on the cam gear was missing and after researching it was found that this is a common issue/failure found on many of the 1. 4tsi engines but is not widespread enough to form a recall as of yet. Many reports state very similar issues of the cam gear/phaser bolts becoming loose and falling down into the engine causing catastrophic failure and metal shavings/debris/fragments inside the engine. I paid nearly 18k$ just to drive the car about 10k miles and still owe 6300$ on the vehicle. This has completely turned my life upside down. Now I have no job, no way to take car of my elderly mom and barely able to take care of myself now that my engine has almost completed failed, if continued to drive the way it is, it may catch fire/explode. Im going to have a professional try to fix this issue but its going to cost more than I have. Vwoa refused to help in any way since the vehicle is out of warranty. Vehicle is at 62388 in miles. I noticed the engine knocking while in a mcdonald's drive thru I was about 800 miles until oil change was needed. So I took it home to check oil and it was extremely low.

4 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2021 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 04/07/2024

Upon backing out of a parking spot a vehicle approached at a fast rate of speed. The rear cross-path sensor and emergency braking activated. This action caused the brake line to rupture and the brakes failed on the vehicle. I resumed reversing out of the parking spot and put the vehicle into drive. Once I applied the brake, the pedal went to the floor with total brake system loss. The vehicle was towed to armstrong Volkswagen in gladstone, oregon. The dealer found the rear passenger side brake like had ruptured due to it rubbing on the fuel filler neck shield. The sudden increase in brake line pressure caused the final failure of the brake line. The brake line was repaired under warranty. This could have been a significant life threatening situation had I been traveling at high speeds and the brake system failed (I. E. Exiting an interstate, etc. ).

5 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2021 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 12/06/2023

Under 20,000 miles, but over 1 year old (leased new February 12, 2021). Vw dealership and secondary party reported rear brake pads and rotors were worn down to 1mm and that the car was unsafe to drive. This cost $500 to repair and I had to pay it for a car that was just over 1 year old. The dealership wanted to charge double to replace. The brakes are only warrantied for 1 year, and because most don't hit 20k miles for a year, they know that the parts are unsafe and will wear down at 20,000 miles (as reported by many many others for the 2021 vw Jetta). I have receipts of inspection and for part replacement by brakes plus. There were no warnings, just the tires squeaking when the weather got cold in December. Also, abs issues - car stalled twice in the middle of a busy street in the first 6 months of use.

7 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 06/15/2023

My 2014 vw as many other 2014 models are experiencing the following according to my local dealership in miami: the abs module is defective effecting other systems and making the car unsafe to drive as it was in 2009 and 2010 models. Dealer repair estimate is between $2500 with $5000! vw should recall before people get hurt!.

8 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2021 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 03/12/2023

I've had 3 manufacturing defects on my 2021 vw Jetta, with 18,000 miles currently, the first issue was my sunglasses compartment on the ceiling of the car, the plastic latches broke by itself, the second issue my car had, multiple sensor lights went off simultaneously, shortly after my breaks started braking by themselves randomly, the dealership were I purchased the car, payne mission Mitsubishi Volkswagen, 2003 e expressway 83, mission, TX 78572 told me to leave the car at the dealership and maybe they could fix it in a month, I told them it was my primary car that I couldn't do that, they said well to be in line the car had to be physically present at the dealership, I thought about suing for breach of contract for refusing to fix it and giving me the run around, the 3rd manufacturing defect that I had with the car, the front panel glass part number #17a8770559b9, shattered spontaneously on a rural highway with no one around me, it sounded like a gunshot when it exploded, the dealership and vw have refused to acknowledge that it is a manufacturing issue, I'm currently waiting to see if they will cover it with factory warranty, but I've been getting the run around. I'm aware that vw already had this issue brought to their attention several years back when they were sued, they have not resolved the issue. I'm asking for an immediate recall of their front panel glass and sunroof glass that was cheaply made and manufactured in mexico. They are charging us 895$ msrp for glass that's defected, part number #17a8770559b9. I was told by a vw customer service representative that a vw engineer would have to examine the glass. If your organization is unable to assist me my next course of action will be to fight this in court till the end, this is an injustice to the customers, an organization as big as Volkswagen should acknowledge the issue and address it in a courteous manner, their should be more laws/rules in ethics when it comes to car sales and mechanic shops.

9 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 02/05/2023

I was in a head on collision where the other person crossed the line and two empty lanes to hit me head on. This was in may 2021. Not one single warning was used by forward collision sensors. No emergency braking was applied. My airbags were not deployed and this man hit me doing at least 35 miles an hour and also I was forward moving even though I was applying my brakes. The car was totaled. Yet not a single warning sound or light or indicator once went off. I also paid extra for the Volkswagen carnet services. Never once did they come over the speaker to ask if I was ok. To tell me I had been in an accident or ask if I needed them to send help. In essence these services failed me completely. I do not understand why I was not included in any of the airbag recalls or settlement information I have heard about. All of the extra features and functions I paid all the extra money to have - every single one failed me when I needed it. This vehicle left me without the protections it promised.

10 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 12/01/2022

This vehicle was purchased 11/2016 from a dealer/mechanic. He bought it at auction, reconstructed it and got the approvals to return it to full operation from the massachusetts dot. The title showed 'reconstructed' and 'prior collision'. Volkswagen notified us of safety recal 45f2 in 2017 - abs control module - and we had the recall performed at colonial vw in westborough mass in 2017. There is an extended warranty vwp-17-03 on vehicles repaired by safety recall 45f2. The car's abs light illuminated and the dealership ran a diagnostic which ran code 16352 - control module faulty static. Vw is telling the dealership that they will not honor the warranty because the car is a total loss. It is not a total loss, it has not been in an accident since it was reconstructed before we purchased it six years ago. I called vw and they said they won't cover it because it's a mechanical issue not a software issue but that's also not true. I see technical bulletin's online that say if fault code 01130 and or 16352 appear that warranty should apply, but they are not honoring their own warranty.

11 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/07/2022

Horn occasionally stops working. Buttons on steering wheel won't work not allowing access to computer.

12 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2021 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 06/16/2022

The car suddenly warned and stopped abruptly while we were traveling over a steel plate on the road. There were no other hazards in the road and no other cars in front of us in our lane (there were cars oncoming in the opposite traffic lane, but none had crossed over into ours). While we were impressed by how quickly and effectively the car stopped, we are concerned that the car may have deemed the steel plate to be another car or other road hazard. Had the person behind us been traveling too closely or at a higher speed, we could have been rear-ended. In this scenario we were ok, but had this steel plate been on a freeway it could have caused a serious accident.

13 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 04/07/2022

The contact owns a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that while driving at 85 mph, the vehicle experienced phantom braking, causing the vehicle to skid. The contact was afraid the vehicle would flip while driving at high speeds when the failure occurred. The dealer and gunther Volkswagen delray beach (2401 n federal hwy, delray beach, FL 33483) were made aware of the failure but informed the contact that she needed to pay out-of-pocket for the diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 6,000.

15 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 10/29/2021

My abs system light has been on, but I haven't had the funds to take care of it. I inherited the car after my daughter passed away, so I don't know how long it's been on. I was just told by my mechanic that there was a recall for this very issue. I'm not in a position to pay what they're asking, but it seems like I shouldn't have to since there was a recall for this. I don't know why your website says there are no recalls for my car, but I feel I fall in this category for the abs recall. I had a woman pull out in front of me and my car's system didn't work.

16 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 10/07/2021

Warning display for autonomous braking / vehicle too close has intermittently and randomly come on a few times I've noticed it when stopped or starting and it is too quick to see what the massage is. Last week my wife was driving on a straight country road with no one around when the breaks unexpectedly applied for about 3 seconds (probably less). The emergency braking display on dash was lit only during the brake application. There were no other vehicles in the area. No injuries; no further problems getting the car home. Dealer was called but did not understand or had not previously experienced this problem. We have since been driving with the system disabled.

17 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

18 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 12/09/2020

Emergency brake engages while driving the car with nothing else on the road. Door locked on her and she had to climb thought the passenger side door. Received several more malfunction alerts. Took the car to my local dealership (200 mile round trip). First I was told the codes were caused by a non-vw diagnostics computer. Then, they said it was a dead battery in the fob. Then they said it was because the car was filthy. It was snowing and I had just driven over 100 miles through snow on a salted road. Of course it was dirty. But, it was clean when I left the house. They refused to do any work except to change the battery in my fob. I changed the battery in my wife's fob when I got home. I also cleaned the car inside and out. As soon as my wife went back to work, all the codes came back on. When the brakes automatically come on while driving on icy roads, this could be a major problem. Also read about a possible class action lawsuit about the brake issues and more.
