Having worked in vw dealerships my transmission control module is failing at only 130,000 miles on it which has been an ongoing issue and complaint by many. When it acts up it won't upshift or will drop down into low gear and one has to worry about being rear ended when this condition occurs.

The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. While driving 50 mph, the vehicle stalled and the neutral and traction control warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the transmission control module needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 126,000.

Driving on 2-lane level road, dry weather, dry road conditions, after driving for about 15 miles, at about 35 mph, vehicle dropped out of gear, appeared to be in neutral while moving. Abs/esp light came on dashboard. Put on flashers and hand signaled to vehicles behind me and came to a complete stop. I shut off engine and was able to restart car, and went a short distance to a store parking lot, and the esp light came back on; and this time the gear shift was locked in park and flashing. Vw dealer had replaced original rear brakes (pads & rotors) on 4/16/15 at 104. 734 miles. Vw checked vehicle on 4/28/2015 and found an error code 01315 in the abs and gateway modules which reportedly indicated intermittent no communication with the tcm; however it was functioning at that time. And cleared computer and said if problem returned mechatronic unit and transmission wiring would need replaced. At this time I also noted noise in brakes, as if they weren’t completely releasing or making rear brakes making noise when releasing brake pedal. The problem did not reoccur until about 3,000 miles later and again vehicle dropped out of gear while driving again on level road at about 35 mph. Car is currently at vw dealer service and mechatronic unit and transmission wiring is being replaced. I also have consistently noted to vw since 4,000 mileage, periodic slipping in lower gears, which vw said they were unable to duplicate. All service maintenance completed at same vw dealer, including all dsg transmission maintenance.
Leaving work I had started my car let the car idle down put it in drive and it slammed into gear after taking off the car shifted into 3rd gear and no higher after noticing this I pulled over put the car in park and tried shifting through the gears and it continued to slam into drive and reverse so I turned the vehicle off and started it back up at that point the mil was on and the service wrench was light up. Called me dealership they had the car towed to a Volkswagen dealership upon their diagnoses they said it could be a wiring issue possible a transmission control module issue upon further investigation the transmission control module had been warrantied previously (as I am the second owner of the car).

Automatic transmission when cold will hesitate or not catch at all when putting into drive. Putting the car into 1st, then moving it to drive will usually work. Shudders when coming to stop after heating up at times. Mechanic says it needs a transmission rebuild at $3000. Failure of transmission control module and cascading to the master control module caused the transmission not to leave the park position, that tow and repair was $300 about 30 days ago. There are hundreds of complaints on the internet about this transmission failing repeatedly, a faulty design. We need a recall from Volkswagen to fix this design failure.

I purchased a 2002 vw in 2005. I had a car accident in Dec '08. Shortly after the collision place repaired my car. The vehichle started misfiring and essentially wasn't drivable. The control arm bushing were replaced $800 (at the vw place) and the service dept said that they would check fluids in particular the transmission fluid. I was told that the transmission didn't have the updated tranmission control module (tcm) and had to replaced ( $700 part and 300 labor) the service technican did state that this was the first step in diagnosing and correcting the problem and that that this was a known issue but not a recall. Well $1000 spent on this still did not fix the problem and now they say the next step is to replace the transmission on a car that has 87k miles another 4k. Well, I can honestly say that vw is unreliable and does not stand behind their name, product or reputation. This is shameful. I am very dissafied and learned that there are numerous customer complaints on the web related to transmissiion, tcm on the vw 2002 - 2006 model. Vw should be held liable and compensate for this a defective/inferior product.
2002 Jetta vr6. Transmission control module (tcm) became faulty after mil light turned on for a emission related issue covered by a recall. Technicians failed to identify the faulty tcm after four trip to the shop. Last trip I showed them a TSB related to the tcm and now they agree that the modual is faulty. Worst part is it destroyed the transmission. The car has been hard to control in stop and go traffic as shifting is not smooth between 2nd and 3rd gears. Car has initial no acceleration/power followed by fast jerking shift into the 3rd gear with high acceleration. Car maybe out of warranty but identifying this issue is not easy for the automotive technicians and this part when it fails leave the car in a state that is hard to control or manage. Dealer only offered to credit this last diagnostic fee towards the $4700 repair which now include not just the tmc module but also the whole transmission. This is after having spent close to $1,000 trying to identify and fix this issue. Not sure if it was related to the mil light issue covered by the recall but since then the tmc had not worked correctly.
Faulty transmission control module caused transmission to fail. Consequence: quote of $5135 for the repair. Car was 6000 miles over warranty.

2003 vw Jetta at 40k miles trans had to be replaced in Feb 06, June 06 same symptoms, told by dealer not to be concerned that the sensors take time to adjust to new trans, emissions light on dealer says not to worry if it does not stay on, continue to call, with same response. Dec 06 car loses power on interstate takes two wks to make an appt to get into dealer, told it is now the transmission control module, vw will not warranty although this part was not chkd when trans replaced, told this part is the brain to trans it tells trans when to shift. Dealer and vw of no help. Looked at consumer affairs on the internet noticed huge amount of people having same problems as I same year same model. The ecm light stays on and is not emitting smoke.

I have never heard from vw customer care since my initial complaint, filed 10. 27. 05 at 9:12 p. M. , reference number 804030825. I called in Nov 05' to check on the status and a customer service rep told me I should file again (I have a reference number for that, too). I've yet to hear from them to this day. Since I bought my vw Jetta tdi 05' in March 05, I have documented how the vw dealership replaced the transmission module component, dealt with occurring problems with the asr light and a separate glow plug light situation, plus upper front strut mounts replacements. Each incident has equally colorful stories too detailed for your database character limitations.

On December 14th of 2002 I purchased a 2003 vw Jetta from smith vw on kirkwood highway delaware. Although they handled all my transactions and vehicle delivery poorly, I chose to overlook in thinking I will not be dealing with them again. Since then, I have had the following problems with my car: ⷠin two separate incidents I had a flat tire. In one case the jack fell over while the car was on it due to high wind. These incidents took place in the winter when we had heavy snow. Later I discovered that my tires were overinflated. I did not touch them since I bought my car and have been for an oil change a month prior at vw. I stopped going to smith vw and started using garnet vw after this. · on the night of August 6th at 9:30pm I got into my car and I could not switch out of park. This was a scary situation because some frick was standing at my window asking me for money. He finally left, but I was stranded waiting for a tow truck. Roadside will tow your car, but they do not drive you home. · in mid August my keyless key battery did not work. I was in va at the time. · on August 25th during rush hour my epc light came on resulting in sudden loss in vehicle power. Luckily I was in an area that I could pull over. Vw found nothing wrong with the car. · on September 8th during rush hour again my epc light came on resulting in sudden loss in power. This time vw replaced the engine control module. At this time I also filed a formal complaint to vw corporation and also spoke to gm at garnet vw. · on November 22nd I took my car in because of hesitation while increasing speed from 20 mph to 40 mph. A vw technician took a ride with me and agreed of the problem. I am schedule for service in December. This is delayed mainly due to my work schedule, but I have been experiencing this problem since my last visit. I will be sending you a follow up note with more information later this week.
The vehicle has experienced continued problems with hard shifting, the transmission cooler ruptured internally and was repaired, however the vehicle continued to shift erratically, final diagnosis is to replace the throttle body, pcm and ecm, however the parts are on backorder, consumer is requesting help.
