The vehicle was being driven. While it was in motion on the freeway the hybrid light turned on when this happened. At the same time the ac stopped cooling. Once we got home we inspected it. The freeze on is full and nothing is wrong with the ac condensor. We turned it on and took it for a drive down the neighborhood but the gear shift wont work. The car loses power when switched to the second shift. We have taken it to volkswagon and they quoted us a repair for the entire transmission replacement. Yet there is a open recall.

I was driving on the freeway on my way to work on 4/14/17 at 6:15am the check engine light came when I was driving 60mph. The vehicle lost power and I was not able to drive no more than 40mph. I was traveling in the fast lane and had to pull to the right shoulder as other cars traveled at high speeds. I managed to drive to the shoulder. I attempted to proceed and drive but my vehicle did not advance. I took my vehicle to the vw dealership in san bernardino, CA. I was forced to pay $135 for a diagnostic. I was told that the reason my car did not work was because my transmission had leaked all the oil. I was also told that the cooling unit for the transmission and lines had to be replaced. I did not have any other alternative but to pay $1086. 00 to repair my vehicle. The service advisor said my vehicle was out of warranty and I have to pay out of pocket. After reviewing the NHTSA website I came across NHTSA campaign 14v182000. I informed the service advisor of the campaigned and she said my vehicle was not part of the recall. All the components mentioned in such recall were the ones that applied to my vehicle. The description of the recall vehicles also matched my vehicle. I was told my vehicle did not have any recall and I had no option but to pay out of pocket. I was also told that I needed a new transmission which cost $5703. My vehicle had 99107 miles when it went in for repairs. The service advisor said that my vehicle had been repaired and test droved by the senior shop foreman and it had gone through a rigorous drive test to ensure my vehicle was back to normal. As I left the dealership my car had 99108 miles. How can the shop foreman test drive my vehicle rigorously for 1 mile? the service advisor said my car was like new again as I drove away the check engine came on and was told that I need to pay $135 for a diagnostic again. Codep0741is still displaying.

In April 2006 we purchased a 2002 vw Jetta from a private party. The car had 65,000 miles. She was the original owner of the car and had taken meticulous care of the car. We have all the service records dating back to it's original purchase. It had been in for all scheduled tuneups. Vw offers a 60,000 mile or 5 year warranty on the drive train. In November 2006 the radiator warning appeared on the dash. We took it in to the dealership and they claimed the radiator and transmission were mixing and caused significant damage to he transmission. Estimated cost of replacing the transmission $5,890. The dealership mechanic never stated what caused the mixing fluids and would not speculate. We took the car to our local mechanic. He was able to isolated the problem within 20 minutes. The transmission cooler is leaking allowing the two fluids to CO-mingle. As a result of the mixing fluids, the belts, hoses, radiator, and transmission are all severely damaged. According to the mechanic the transmission cooler is sealed within the transmission housing and is never meant to be changed. It's position is protected from any road debris and no quality of how the car was driven would effect the performance of this part. It's his opinion that the part had a manufactured defect. Since the car was originally diagnosed in November it has not been driven. We are currently awaiting an appeal to the vw America.

Transmission failed. The dealer replaced the part. However, two weeks later the part failed again. The vehicle would not go into reverse. The transmission slipped and the vehicle had run into a pole at a gas station on the right front side. This problem remained the same. The engine light had come on along with the transmission problems. Other problems were: the tire pressure had to be reset on numerous occasions, rear pads, a/c was not cooling, glove box, power windows, console, power sunroof, interior trim, steering/suspension, driveability, trim electrical, sound system, and heating/cooling. The consumer did not report any damage to vehicle when she hit the pole.

In oct 2000 my car overheated, I reported this to vw and they made some adjustments, I also reported a noise from the left front like a whining noise, this was attributed to a failure in the transmission, vw did repairs to ring and pinion gears and differential bearings, noise subsided for a few weeks. The warning: check coolant light came on again several months later, reported problem to vw and I was instructed to add water to raise coolant level. In sept. 2001, I reported air conditioning failure, vw determined cooling system had problem, replaced coolant fan and secondary water pump, I also reported return of whining noise. Car has now been at vw in glendale, CA since 10/2/2001, dealer has replaced left front axel and drive shaft, still whining, replaced transmission. I picked up car, drove 5 miles and car slipped out of gear and now does not run. Returned via tow truck to vw dealer in glendale, CA. Vw replacing value box on 10/9/2001 technician said "in my opinion this will not elevate problem" car now has intermitant problem with staying in gear. Technician also reported that vw Jettas glx with vr6 engine have transmission problems and dealer has replaced up to 4 transmissions in one car in several cases. Vw dealer and vw of America customer relations department have been notified.
Vehicle was leaking water coolant and vehicle was at dealership. Mechanic replaced the engine and transmission twice.
Vehicle has excessive engine oil consumption and loss of cooling at the same rate, which could cause engine failure/fire and air pollution. Owner has contacted dealership two times about the problem. Also, gear selection and engagement of the transmission are slow to respond to input. Dealer says that these problems are normal.
