The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked and unoccupied, the vehicle rolled away and crashed into a telephone pole. The manufacturer was contacted and advised they would take the liability for the defective gear shift selector, but the contact would be liable for the structural damages caused by the crash. The contact stated that the vehicle has a function where the key could be removed from the ignition without the vehicle being placed in the park position. The contact believed that the manufacturer should take the liability of the structural damage that was caused by the manufacturing defect. The failure and current mileages were 3,500.

2 Automatic Transmission Floor Shift problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/06/2009

The contact owns a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta. In April of 2007, the contact received a recall notice for NHTSA campaign id number 07v063000 (exterior lighting:brake lights:switch). The vehicle was repaired at that time. Approximately a year and a half later, the brake light switch began to fail again. When the brake pedal was depressed, the brake light switch would not stop illuminating on the instrument panel and the vehicle would not shift gears. The vehicle was turned off approximately three times and, finally, the brake light dimmed and the vehicle became mobile. The failure occurred intermittently for one month and the contact called the dealer. She was informed that the brake light switch was defective. The manufacturer stated that since the failure occurred more than twelve months later, they were not liable for the repairs. The current mileage was 71,707 and failure mileage was 71,207. Updated 03-09-09 the shifter would not come out of park. The fuel pump was noisey and which was replaced by the dealer. Updated 03/12/09.

3 Automatic Transmission Floor Shift problem of the 2002 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 04/26/2006

2002 Jetta GLS automatic cars. The side button you push on the shift handle gets stuck in and doesn't pop out. This causes me to not be able to remove the key or can accidentally shift into another gear if it doesn't pop out.

Failure Date: 07/31/2005

Power train:automatic transmission:lever and linkage:column shift transmission problem. Transmission will not go into reverse. Also, consumer was told that there was a problem with the brake light. Water intrusion from the driver's side of the vehicle leaving 1/2" of water on floorboard. This condition results in slippery pedals and windows fogging up. Nothing has been done to correct the problem. .

6 Automatic Transmission Floor Shift problem of the 1998 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 10/01/2001

While backing up there was a clunking sound and transmission popped out of reverse. Dealer replaced transmission linkage.
