The contact owns a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact was driving 25 mph when the vehicle abnormally decelerated and would not respond to the contact's attempts to drive forward or in reverse. The contact was unable to move the vehicle and it was towed to an authorized dealer. The dealer advised that the transmission would need replacing. A diagnostic was performed but produced no failure codes. The manufacturer offered to cover one half of the repair costs. The vehicle was not repaired. The current and failure mileage was 68,000.

I purchased a 2000 vw Jetta on 6/16/10. Two weeks after purchase, the vehicle began to have problems & since I have had the vehicle, it has had to have the following repairs: 2 fans, abs sensor would come on & lock up the wheels, so the system had to be unplugged, coolant system had to be replaced, a transmission replaced & a certified transmission specialist found it had been taken out prior & 4 cyl parts were used in a 6 cyl vehicle, & thermostat had to be replaced. The cost of repairs to date are approx. $5,200 & I only paid $4,995 for the vehicle. This vehicle is not safe and should not have been sold in the condition it was in. The seller failed to disclose that the vehicle had underlying problems after I inquired several times. The business should be held responsible for selling an unsafe vehicle and I wonder how many other vehicles the business has sold like this. I have this vehicle in for repairs more than I have been able to drive it & when I purchased it, the seller was aware I needed a reliable vehicle to get to the kidney transplant very quickly.

Loss of power on freeway, without warning. Vehicle lost power, then, while attempting to restore power by 'pumping' the accelerator, shifted into second gear, resulting in a very rapid deceleration from 70 mph to 45 mph. This occurred twice in one hour, at both times requiring following motorists to swerve severely to avoid.

My car is a 2010 vw Jetta tdi with dsg transmission. I took delivery of the car in January of 2010. During July of last year with 3000 miles on the car, I drove the car out of a parking lot on a 95 f degree afternoon. By the time I reached the exit ramp the transmission, which was in drive mode, had shifted into second gear. My intention was to cross over the near lane of traffic into the far lane going in the opposite direction. When a safe interval appeared I stepped on the throttle but the car moved ahead very slowly (into the lane of fast moving cars) pressing the throttle further had no effect. I took my foot off the throttle and pressed down again and the car responded normally. It seemed at the time that the transmission had not shifted down into first gear when I had stopped at the driveway exit. The slow speed lasted for about ten seconds and the engine did not lug. The dealer said all dsg problems had been addressed and Jettas in my VIN number series did not register any new transmission problems on the vw service web site. I am concerned because of the potential for a disastrous accident when my wife or I try to enter high speed traffic should this problem re-occur. I had called your phone line after the event and was given "call reference number 281881, confirmation number 10346067". And told that I would receive a report form by regular mail but I never have so I thought I should complete the online form. [xxx]

The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact was attempting to accelerate from a complete stop however the vehicle was very slow to increase in speed until the contact released his foot from the accelerator pedal. The contact then depressed the accelerator and the vehicle resumed normal operation. The dealer advised that he was not familiar with the type of failure. The vehicle was neither diagnosed nor repaired. The failure and current mileages were 3,500.
When sitting in stop and go traffic, the transmission shifts very hard in and out of the shifting sequence. When that happens the transmission will take a few seconds to shift into gear and thump very hard. After calling a vw dealership, I was informed that this is a very common issue with the new Jetta's and beetles. Also there is very heavy crazing with the head lamp fixtures and cannot be repaired and causes serious impairment at night when the head lights are on.

I own a 2009 Jetta tdi with a dsg transmission. I feel like I am going to get hit when I start from a stop. The transmission jumps and hesitates. It has been to the dealer with out being fixed. It is terrifying to drive a car that may or my not accelerate which also jumps in and out of gear!.

Failure of dsg transmission and dual mass flywheel on 2006 Volkswagen Jetta tdi.
Flywheel issue in a 2006 vw Jetta tdi.
The engine began chattering while idling. It has 80k miles. The chattering became worse so I took it to the local dealer. The transmission housing was cracked, the flywheel broken and slip kit cracked. It was leaking oil from the transmission. Total repair will be more than $6000 and take more than 6 weeks to complete the repair. The parts dealers are having a hard time finding a flywheel. I have had the car serviced at the dealer since I bought it.
Car shifts into neutral while driving, engine revs and car will not accelerate. When engine goes to idle, transmission will sometimes engage. Problem started at 4000 miles (now 37000) multiple calls to vw and trips to vw service with zero results. No fault codes,no repair. Last call to vw customer service I was told by the rep. Buy a new transmission and see whether the problem is resolved . This automobile was troublesome from the beginning with hard shifting and slamming into first gear. I also have a 2006 tdi with zero problems.
Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6) I purchased a new 2010 vw Jetta se on 1/28/10. VIN [xxx] . Current mileage on vehicle is less than 1300 miles. Car has a automatic - dsg transmission. In mid may of 2010 I began having severe problems with the transmission locking into 3, 4 gears while in drive especially when entering traffic from a start. . This creates a severe power reduction from a start and can be life threating, and cause involvement in broad side accident while entering the flow of traffic. Transmission also jolts and bolts when driving, and when placing in reverse or drive from a start. The car has shifted in neutral once while driving. I have had at least 15 occurrences since may 12th. When the situation happens I have to pull off the road and stop and wait for a safe condition to pull out in third (locked) gear. I cannot duplicate the problem at will it just occurs without warning. Sometimes the problem seems to reset to normal if you turn off the ignition and wait 5-10 min before restarting. Vw/Audi have had numerous reports of problems with this dsg transmission. Had a problem with my 2008 gti and the metronics which vw sent out a safety bulleting and replaced the unit last July. This problem is far worse than rough shifting it's life threating. Had a real scary incident yesterday, locked into third and then jumped into neutral, had to coast to burm. Car is currently today in the dealership as I will not drive it until the problem is corrected. They will investigate the problem and check for error codes etc. I do not have a problem with the dealership have been a customer since 2000 and have owned 6 vw's since. The problem is with the dsg transmissions in vw's they are not safe. I have also advised vw at their customer care site and who knows what they are doing???? incident date is the start of the problem I would appreciate your assistance with this matter. Thank you.
When I am driving and come to a complete stop my car does a sudden jerk. When accelerate my car also jerks when I step on my gas pedal.
When you stop at a light and then go to take off the car has a severe lag (no power) barely will move. It showed up about 2000 miles 2010 Jetta tdi.
2007 vw Jetta 2. 0 w/ dsg - dual mass flywheel failure identified by dealership. This has been an issue with 2007-2009 vw's with dsg.

I purchased the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta tdi from a private owner 6 months ago. There was a sound apparent when I purchased it but I thought it was typical for a diesel vehicle, after 6 months of driving I took it to my mechanic and was told that the dmf (dual mass flywheel) was failing. I've done research online to find that the dmf manufactured by sachs that Volkswagen uses in their 2000 and later models have a high rate failure after in as little as 10,000 miles. Causing complete transmission or engine failure of varying degrees. The cost for this repair can range between $2000. 00 - $8000. 00. Not only is the expense high due to a manufacturer defect in the flywheel, but the risk is even higher, causing hesitation in acceleration when pulling out into traffic or sudden wheel lock and loss of control at any given moment while traveling. It is highly recommended that this problem be address for the safety and concern of any Volkswagen vehicle owner with this defective flywheel.
Please reference NHTSA action # pe09035. My car has had this recall performed and continues to exhibit the behavior on multiple occasions since having the recall performed in November of 2009. The car has been serviced at the dealer numerous times to correct this problem and it still occurs. The dealer performed the recall in November 2009, replaced the affected temperature sensor in March 2010, replaced the brake light switch in may 2010, and replaced the instrument cluster in June 2010. I just got the car back from having the instrument cluster replaced on Friday, June 11, 2010 and the "false neutral" referenced in the NHTSA action # pe09035 occurred again on Sunday, June 13, 2010. The car is currently waiting on a service appointment at the dealer. This is a major safety issue!!.
I was driving my 2009 vw Jetta wolfsburg edition on the interstate at 65mph when suddenly the car loses power and shuts off. I happened to be in the passing lane and luckily was not struck from behind. This same situation has since occurred 10-15 times. My wife and I are hoping a new car will issued to us as we just can't risk the lives of our family. This car shouldn't be on the road anymore. . . . It has been to the dealership 3x with no resolution.
Car has problems shifting gear.

While driving at 65 mph on route 80 in rockaway, NJ, the car appeared to shift into neutral leaving me without forward acceleration. My dashboard transmission indicator lights started flashing. I was nearly missed by heavy traffic while attempting to get the car to the shoulder without any acceleration. I waited a few minutes restarted car, it went into gear and I pulled back onto the highway. In less than 500 feet the car repeated the above process and I once again had to safely navigate my way to the shoulder. At this time the car would not re-engage and I was towed to my local Volkswagen dealership.
Transmission is my vehicle is faulty. It shifts funny and sometimes when I pull out in traffic, there is considerable lag like all power is loss for a short period of time. Also, the dmf in this transmission is known to have problems. I've been told they were recalled in australia, but not the us. That is insane. . . Consumer safety my [xxx]. My 2006 Jetta tdi has 69k miles on it. I bring it to the dealer for service routinely and baby the car. It spends nearly no time in traffic and has run well until last week. Last week I heard a funny sound coming from the engine compartment. I brought it into the dealer. Long story short, the flywheel had cracked and it will be over $2k for the flywheel. Vw knows about this being a faulty part and I've heard they've had a full recall in other countries. I called vw of America and they refuse to pay for it because the car is slightly out of warranty. It is being repaired in the shop because I cannot afford to be without a car. Luckily no one was hurt, because if I hadn't brought the car immediately in it could have stalled the car at high speeds (freeway) and ruined the entire drivetrain, causing an accident. Again, vw knew this part has been faulty. There is a technical service bulletin on it.
I have a 2010 us version Volkswagen Jetta tdi with the dsg transmission. The car has around 4500 miles on the odometer and this problem has been with the car since day #1. The problem is manifested as a lurching, and erratic shifting of the transmission in gears 1 to 2 as well as from a stop. Even though I drive with a soft touch, I can rarely get a smooth start-off because of the unpredictable shifting of the transmission. Especially noticeable in stop & go driving, I am concerned that this phenomena may cause an accident while commuting to/from work.
We have a 2005 Jetta tdi automatic. This car was bought new and has been serviced at every interval by vw. We have had a common concern about the car moving forward in drive in erratic fashion when cold after about 6 months. We informed vw about this concern and they said nothing was wrong. Last week my wife was backing out of the driveway and the car stalled in the middle of the road. We tried everything to get it started but it would not turn over. We had it towed to our vw dealer who informed us that it would cost $600. 00 just to make a determination as to what the cause was. We gave them the go ahead and a day latter they informed us that the dual mass flywheel has disintegrated which in turn destroyed the transmission. This dmf appears to be a common problem with vw's in general. In europe vw will fix the problem free of charge, but not in the us. We are waiting to hear from vw on what if anything they will do. The service manager was no help in this matter, except to tell us it was not covered. Stay tuned as we enter the twilight zone of design defects with vw!.
Vehicle shifts into neutral while driving. Vehicle has been recalled for this problem, but vehicle still has problem after recall service has been done. Nhtsa campaign id number 09v333000 is for the recall that was completed on this vehicle in oct. 2009. At vw dealer where vehicle was purchased. On Nov 27, 2009 vehicle shifted into neutral while driving and has done it on 2 other occasions. Have taken vehicle back to dealer on Nov. 29, 2009 and awaiting results of their diagnoses. I am sending this complaint because I believe that this defect is not getting fixed with the original recall, which leaves a very serious safety problem open to owners of these vehicles and others.
When 2010 vw Jetta with dsg transmission downshifts engine continues to have higher rpm's creating a jerking effect when decelerating. When going from reverse to drive after coming to a complete stop vehicle engine dies. Only way to start vehicle is to turn ignition off and remove key and then restart vehicle. When stopped at red light vehicle engine died upon pressing accelerator. Only way to restart vehicle is to turn ignition off, remove key and then restart vehicle. Failures occur at least once a day whether vehicle is warmed up or a cold engine. No common time causes failure. Vehicle was brought in to dealer two times for same failure but was unable to be duplicated by dealer. Third time vehicle was brought in to dealer, failure was able to be duplicated. Machatronic unit was ordered for transmission but problem not yet completed. Failures began at approximately 2000 miles and have continually and gradually become more extreme and frequent. Vehicle now has 20000 miles.
2010 Volkswagen Jetta tdi sedan, automatic transmission. Vehicle stalls from start position, then catches and surges ahead, throwing driver's head back to the head rest. Car jumps ahead and could cause rear end collision to traffic in front.
On a 2 lane road attempting to pass a vehicle there was a sudden jerking and bucking of the car. For a moment there was no power to wheels. The actions threw me forward into the seatbelt. After a few violent seconds it regained power and I was able to pass the other vehicle. There is also harsh downshifting of the gears as I approach a stop. It is as if I have slammed on the brakes. This action also throws myself and passengers forward.
I received the following priority 1 warning light: "transmission overheated: stop! owners man," after stopping in front of my residence to retrieve mail. This is the second time in a month I have received the warning (refer to odi no. 10283957 for initial incident). I turned vehicle off and then on again several times but the warning light remained on. The vehicle had no acceleration in both drive and reverse while the warning light was active. The vehicle was towed to the nearest vw dealership and is currently undergoing diagnosis. As far as the initial incident on 9/13/2009, vw reported they could not find any problems with the vehicle, that no fault/error codes were found. Their remedy was to reset the basic settings and road test the vehicle - they kept the vehicle for 3 weeks. I had the vehicle back for 2 days before the second incident occurred.
My transmission jerks / jolts significantly while my car is coming to a stop. This occurs pretty regularly, usually once on my way to work every morning when I pull up to a stop light after driving for approx. 25 minutes. It does this jolting no matter who is driving the car. This began happening last year. I have taken it into my dealer twice and they were unable to diagnose and resolve the issue. They did make me aware of a recent recall on a specific type of vw transmission for the same complaint of "jolting" however my type of transmission is currently not covered in the current recall. I believe they have a bigger issue with their transmissions.
2008 Volkswagen Jetta wolfsburg 2. 0t fsi dsg (direct shift gearbox)
while pulling out into traffic on numerous occasions from a full standstill there was a very significant delay in the response of the dsg transmission to driver throttle input. There will be a 1-2-3 go, (delay) the car will then jerk forward out into traffic then only creep very slowly forward at this point which commits the car and it's passengers to the maneuver of turning into active traffic pattern. This delay/jerk/then creeping forward has caused a few close calls with having an accident from oncoming traffic. The possibility of traffic colliding into this vehicle is very high as the car does not respond to driver throttle input leaving you dead in the water until the car finally decides to move itself forward. This is a very dangerous situation which could very easily result in significant injury or death. When one purchases and drives a car one would expect the car to properly respond to driver inputs and not be left in oncoming traffic with a car that wont respond to the driver.

On Sunday, sept. 13, 2009, while traveling up a hill on an interstate highway at approximately 70-75 mph, my 2010 vw Jetta tdi (auto. Transmission) suddenly and without any warning flashed a "transmission overheat" warning light and I immediately lost power to the accelerator. Fortunately, I was able to get the vehicle to the highway shoulder without causing a major traffic incident. After turning the vehicle engine off and letting it site for a few minutes, I restarted the vehicle and had no additional malfunctions or warning lights. However, I did make an effort to keep the vehicle's speed at or below 70 mph. Based on similar reported incidents I researched on the web, I can positively confirm that my vehicle switched into neutral when I received the warning light. On Monday, sept. 14, 2009, I brought the vehicle to the service department of the vw dealership where I had purchased it and was informed that the problem would be looked into.
I have a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta tdi. Recently, I have been experiencing transmission issues. The vehicle losses power in the transmission in the upper gears. Consequently, I lose power while on the interstate at higher speeds. This has caused me to have to take evasive action to avoid causing crashes from cars behind me. I have taken the car to Volkswagen as it is under warranty. The warranty company has made unreasonable demands that the dealership has not been able to fulfill. After a week, I have now taken it to aamco to have the transmission serviced. I believe it is the same transmission that has been recalled on the 2009 and 2010.
I have spent over 9000. 00 since 2004 on repairs on my vw Jetta. I complained to the authorized repair shop that my car had to warm up when it was 90 degrees outside for it run without slowing down and almost stopping. I took my car in had bushings replaced and they said my temperature sensor needed replacing. When I got the car back I was having the same problem. I took the car back now they are saying that I need a valve body replaced to the tune of $1600. 00. Even then there is no guarantee the problem will be fixed. The other option is to get a new transmission replaced for $3500. 00. I honestly think all of these cars are lemons and I would never buy another Volkswagen product in my life.
When shifting into reverse and taking foot off the brakes, vehicle launches backward. I have to wait a few seconds after shifting into reverse before taking foot off the brakes to avoid launching. Never experienced this in another vehicle.
