Tl- the contact owns a 2008 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph a clunking noise was present coming from the transmission. During the incident the dashboard display showed the transmission had switched from the drive to the neutral position and the vehicle began to lose power. Upon inspection it was discovered that the driveshaft bolts had come loose and a hole was present in the transmission causing fluid to leak out. The vehicle was towed to the home. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer and manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,000. Jft.

This car continues to sporadically go in reverse while I am in drive. This has happened while waiting in like at a drive through, foot on break while in drive while waiting for food, then told to pull up only to nearly back into the car in line behind me. Had to put car in park and shut off engine- restart to correct problem. Has happened while foot on break at red light while in drive, took foot off break when light turned green - car went into reverse while drive shaft "d" still lit up almost backing into car behind me. And again this happened while backing up in my apartment parking lot, put car into reverse to back out, break, when to put car into drive and car went into reverse. Each time the car has went into reverse while in drive I have had to turn off the car completely and restart to correct the problem. This is a huge safety hazard and threatening to my car, my safety, and other drivers. Dealership cannot recreate problem and says therefore there is no problem, vw customer care is no help either as they simply keep telling me to take it back to the dealership.

The contact owns a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta. While driving approximately 60 mph, the contact stated that the gear shift selector shifted to neutral without warning similar to NHTSA campaign id number: 09v164000 (power train:driveline:driveshaft). He was able to pull to the side of the road where he manually powered the vehicle off and restarted it again which allowed the vehicle to reset. The manufacturer advised the contact to take the vehicle to a local dealer. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who they replaced the mechatron. The current mileage was 40,000 and the failure mileage was 36,000.

2008 vw Jetta wolfsburg with 2. 0t & dsg transmission 21k miles. Transmission consistently lurches forward at a stop especially after driving at highway speeds. This is magnified when the a/c is on. Rpm's will fluctuate +/- 200 as you feel the gear engage. Symptoms are worse when the car is in reverse. Has the same feeling as someone not knowing how to drive a manual transmission. The "jerkiness" continues from a stop until under acceleration into 3rd gear. The transmission also downshifts unusually hard into 2nd & especially 1st gear. All these symptoms have slowly become more pronounced over the last month. The worst & potentially hazardous problem was when I attempted to make a left turn onto a busy road with my entire family in the car. I was at a stop & shifted the car into "sport" mode which gives the car much quicker short term acceleration, which would help in the busy situation. As traffic cleared enough I pressed the gas & the car simply rolled without power into the oncoming traffic. I had to shift quickly into reverse to avoid being hit by oncoming traffic. I attempted this a 2nd time & the same thing happened. . . No power, just rolled like it was in neutral. I have not rusted this car in these situations since. I have an appointment with the dealer in 1 week to address this & a recall on the driveshaft bolts. I am filing this because as I researched this issue from credible sources, it is apparent this is a big issue for the dsg transmissions & the consumer is getting the run around. I could have been involved in a serious/fatal accident with my family & it would have been written up at the scene that I pulled out in front of oncoming traffic. When in reality this transmission failed to engage (twice) and jeopardized our lives. I would hope that this issue gains the attention it deserves and vw steps up and makes a permanent fix. The parts the are replacing (mechatronic) is failing again after time. I expect a dealer run-a-round. Please help.
The contact owns a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta. The vehicle experienced various recurring failures since the date it was purchased. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on numerous occasions where the battery was replaced, throttle valves were cleaned, the recirculation valve was replaced, the engine fan control module was replaced, the fuel pressure sensor was replaced, the crank case breeder valve was replaced, the high pressure fuel pump was replaced, and the cam shaft follower was replaced. The vehicle was also repaired under the recall 09v164000, power train driveline, driveshaft and had the sunroof drained due to water leakage. The failure mileage was 16,257 and the current mileage was 47,000.
I have a 06' Jetta it has 10,000 miles on it and has had several problems. 1. Stero broke after 2 mo. And 6 cd's were stuck in damaged cd player and I still have not recieved them back like I was told after 4 months of being fixed. 2. Paint was peeling off front bumper, was repaired. 3. Back center console would not stay in place. 4. Steering wheel makes sqeaking noise when turned to the right. 5. Hazard button fell into dash. 6. Paint is now peeling again. 7. Chrome on wheel is peeling. 8. A brand new transmission had to be put in after 3 attempts of fixing it vw tech support told the valencia service department to just replace it. 9. When replacing the transmission the service department noticed that the drive shaft which is holding the axel spinndeles and wheels altogether to the steering wheel. The bolt was stripped and tech support said it was a factory malfunction and unsafe to drive unless fixed . We came to find out the squeaking noise from the steering wheel was due to this problem.
This probably is the same as the existing complaint number 10079735 for Volkswagen Jetta 04. 1. It happens only when it is cold. If it is cold, the problem is repeatable. 2. While pushing the brake, we move the shift from park to either drive or reverse (it's the same). Then normally, torque is transmitted through driveshaft through the transmission. However, Jetta does not function as such. 3. The transmission only can engages when I release the brake almost completely. Up to the position, it is the same as neutral. That introduces sudden and abrupt start of the car.
While proceeding to enter the highway, the driver heard a loud bang. The vehicle started to lose power. Took vehicle to mechanic, and he said that the bolts sheared off the from driveshaft to the transmission. The transmission, driveshaft, and the cv joints were replaced due to the incident. The vehicle started to have problems again with the front brakes, where the rotors were replaced again. (the problem returned again).

Right front drive shaft became slightly out of round by about 30 thous. This problem cannot be explained by any regular means except the dealer says we must have hit something . It is virtually impossible to hit the shaft because it is protected . I believe this is metal fatigue that comes from highspeed highway driving as I commute daily about 250 km. The car is only 22 months old but I now have 125,800 km on it. I suspect this problem would have never occured if I was only driving the average 20,000km per year and on the highway from time to time. Dealer was not even interested in contacting volkswagon to see if there was any help available.

Car would make awful high-pitched howling noise at 40mph. Thought it was road noise, dealer said might be driveshaft, changed drive shaft, still howled, changed transmission, now it seems to be ok. Seems many other 2001 vw Jetta's in the s. Florida area experienced same problems because I saw many more Jettas in the repair shop, and most of the vehicle owners I spoke to there said they were getting new transmissions put in. Some were getting their 3rd and 4th changes.
