Broken trailing arm after 3 days of purchase from dealership dealership refuses to fix it recall for my car rear trailing arm I was driving and the car started jumping it seemed like, lost control of my vehicle then I could no longer drive it. Towed car to dealership and was told that I broke the rear control arm and refused to fix it. I do believe that it is the rear trailing arm. Is my broken trailing arm covered under the recall? if so, isn't my dealership where I got the car required to fix this?.

The contact owns a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle overheated and stalled without warning, the parking brake failed, and the rear driver side door had issues opening. The contact also stated that the vehicle leaked fluid. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the main coolant fan, engine valve cover gasket, both rear shock and mounts, both front strut mounts, front lower control arm bushing, and both outer tie rods needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was 137,354.

Late in April, 2013 I installed a passenger side control arm on a 1998 vw Jetta tdi. The control arm was purchased from autozone ( their part # 520-782) as an assembly with the ball joint installed. The car ran fine for about 2 weeks. Then while driving it began pulling to the right. On examination, 2 of the 3 bolts which hold the ball joint on the control arm were missing, and the third was easily removed by finger. When it was installed all 3 were in place. The one bolt remaining did not have any locking compound, nor did it have a mechanical locking device, such as a lock washer or lock nut. I installed 3 hardened bolts with locking compound, and the car has been fine for the past 5 days. If the third bolt had fallen out, the vehicle would have been impossible to control, and the probable result would have been a crash.

I purchased a 2002 vw in 2005. I had a car accident in Dec '08. Shortly after the collision place repaired my car. The vehichle started misfiring and essentially wasn't drivable. The control arm bushing were replaced $800 (at the vw place) and the service dept said that they would check fluids in particular the transmission fluid. I was told that the transmission didn't have the updated tranmission control module (tcm) and had to replaced ( $700 part and 300 labor) the service technican did state that this was the first step in diagnosing and correcting the problem and that that this was a known issue but not a recall. Well $1000 spent on this still did not fix the problem and now they say the next step is to replace the transmission on a car that has 87k miles another 4k. Well, I can honestly say that vw is unreliable and does not stand behind their name, product or reputation. This is shameful. I am very dissafied and learned that there are numerous customer complaints on the web related to transmissiion, tcm on the vw 2002 - 2006 model. Vw should be held liable and compensate for this a defective/inferior product.

The contact owns a 1998 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that the control arm bushing needed to be replaced because it made a noise and caused the vehicle to lunge forward when stopping. A mechanic stated that the replacement would cost nearly $500. In addition, the steering rack would make a noise when the steering wheel was turned. The mechanic added steering fluid and informed the contact that there was a substantial leak, which was worsening. The estimate to repair the leak was $1,084. 84. The vehicle has not been taken to the dealer. The current mileage was approximately 86,000 and failure mileage was approximately 84,000.
I was traveling down i40 west bound on the appoximate date. The pavement was wet, but not raining. I have noticed my Jetta's steering a little squirrelly over the last month. When I hit a "lump" in the road the car dragged to the left. I steered to the right which sent the vehicle into a spin. I spun out but did not hit anything. When I took my Jetta to the shop, the owner said it was a control arm and bushing problem. He stated this was a notorious problem with this vehicle. I had repairs done to the left side which amounted to $275. 44 and still need to get the other side done.
