3 Suspension problem of the 2017 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 02/03/2024

My 2017 vw Jetta s front left coil spring broke in half & the sharp ends could have puncture my tire while I was driving. I was checking it over as soon as it made noise, & discovered that it had broken and didn’t drive it & bought 2 new ones and replaced them both and got our state inspection. I got on the internet and saw where the Jetta 2019 & some other models had been recalled, and wondered why my car hasn’t been, no one got hurt over this, but I as a former mechanic I keep my cars well taken care of, if this was someone else’s who just get in & drive it they could of caused a accident. My car is garage keep with 60,000 miles on it. Also we have 2017 vw all track which I checked it over and no broken coil springs on it as of now, I would like you to consider paying for my parts and repairs as I feel that it was the failure of the part and not abuse. Thanks.

4 Suspension problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/16/2024

Rear coil spring broke while driving about 50 mph in a straight line. A loud bang was heard in the rear of the car. This was confirmed by the dealer during an oil change. I see that this was a recall for other 2019 vw Jetta models.

5 Suspension problem of the 2020 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/10/2024

The front strut spring broke. The dealer warned against driving it at all, since it could cut open the tire or damage other parts that would cause a lot of control. The vehicle is just past the three year warranty. But it is too new for aftermarket parts, so I had to replace it the same parts. The dealer said this is very common on this make/model and to expect these parts to consistently fail.

6 Suspension problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/08/2024

Making loud noises when turning and steering wheel shakes really bad.

7 Suspension problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/20/2023

My 2019 vw Jetta runs well, but recently there are two safety incidents cause my deep safety concerns. 1)9/20/2023 around 12:15 pm, I parked my vw Jetta in front of wells fargo. When I put shifter in reverse, tried to backwards out of the parking lot, suddenly the car lost control and kept rolling forward, there was a deep ditch in front of my car, but the car kept rolling forward. I was very scared. I drove the Jetta to nearby vw princeton and asked a technician to check the Jetta and find out the system defects, but the technician scanned the Jetta and couldn't find any problems, then suggested to schedule an in depth diagnostics into the Jetta to address my incident. 2) 9/26/2023, around 9:00 pm, I was entering a gate, entered the code, suddenly my car couldn't go forward or backwards, the engine stopped working, the car screen then showed: "please manually start the engine. " after I turn off and then turn back the key again, the engine started. I have texted the service advisor at vw princeton about the new insident today. I would like to report the above two incidents to NHTSA for investigation. Thank you!.

8 Suspension problem of the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/01/2023

I bought this 2022 Jetta new on August 2022. The dealership replaced brakes on their own on July 1, 2023. This was 11 months after I purchased the vehicle. Vehicle had 10, 900 miles on 7/1/2023. On August 26, 2024 I brought the vehicle to the dealership and reported issues with the breaking system. The service technician discovered worn-out pads and break rotors needed replacement. The service department refused to complete the work because the vehicle was out of warranty. A claim was filed with Volkswagen corporation(case #06407327). Claim was declined. Break pads and rotors are being worn-out within 11-15 months. This is a safety issue. Volkswagen corporation refuses to recognize the mechanical issue.

9 Suspension problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 12/20/2022

My 2015 Jetta se was making noises in the left front end. I was driving when something fell off my vehicle. I was able to stop and pick up the item that fell off. It was part of a coil spring that was from the left front side of my car. The vw dealer replaced the left front coil spring. That was 6 months ago. Recently, I heard a loud bang from under my car and a couple of days later a piece of coil spring came off of my car again, this time from the rear. I will be bringing in my car on 12/28/2022 to get this coil spring replaced.

10 Suspension problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 12/02/2022

Front end making a banging noise. Local car shop tells me the front driver side strut coil spring is broken and flopping around. Car steers, and drives ok. What if it had blown my tire when it busted???? have never seen one of these springs break myself. There are more reports on the internet about this with vw’s. A recall was issued on the 2019 and newer for the rear springs. Any before that year must not count?????.

11 Suspension problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 12/01/2022

The contact owns a 2015 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that his son mentioned to him that an abnormal squeaking noise was coming from the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. Upon inspection, the contact noticed that a rubber piece was sitting underneath the rear driver’s side tire. Upon further inspection, he noticed that the wheel well was sitting on top of the rear driver’s side tire. The contact attempted to reach the dealer but instead left a voicemail. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed him that there were no recalls on the VIN. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 86,066.

13 Suspension problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/10/2022

The transmissions are bad on these cars and when it's shifting gears it jerks and almost takes you off the road. I've had my car completely stop as I was driving and almost cause a wreck hurting myself in the process of not trying to kill someone walking because these cars are known to have this problem there was an entire lawsuit against Volkswagen and nothing has been done. Please help if there is a recall done I can get the car fixed and continue working as an in-home caregiver. I am currently out of work because it is not safe to transport clients in that death trap. The mechanic said the entire transmission is built to brake and it's not a new problem these cars are bad.

14 Suspension problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/07/2022

Left front coil spring broke. Made popping sound while turning. Coil spring has two pink and two white dots.

15 Suspension problem of the 2017 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 06/28/2022

We own a 2017 Volkswagen Jetta. While driving at 55 mph, he heard a loud bang noise and experienced difficulty steering the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. We pull over to inspect the vehicle, we did not see any problems with the tires and they looked ok. But there was smoke coming up from the front passenger side. We were able to drive the vehicle another mile before more smoke was coming from under the passenger side. When we pulled over again we realized the right front tire on the passenger side was shredded. We called aaa. Replaced the tire with the spare and went home. We called the vw dealer and took the car in. They said it was a front suspension coil spring that broke and punctured the right front tire.

16 Suspension problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 06/21/2022

Upon pulling out of my driveway in the middle of June 2022, I noticed a piece of metal on the driveway, located near where the front passenger side tire would have been. Upon inspection, it appeared to be a piece of a suspension spring that had somehow broken off and was later confirmed to be true. I have retained the broken piece, which was about 1/2 the circle of the lowest rung of the spring, but do not have the rest of the spring (disposed of by the repair shop). Pictures are attached, as is a copy of the repair invoice. The repair shop (an independent shop) has anecdotally told me that he has seen a number of these situations on Volkswagen's, Volvo's, and another brand which I cannot remember. At this writing, I have not yet contacted the manufacturer but plan to in the upcoming week. This vehicle has just over 10k in mileage and will be 9 years in service come October 2022. As you can see it is not used very much so I find this failure quite disturbing in the sense of safety, material, and repair cost. A couple of weeks earlier, I noticed that the car just seemed to handle slightly different and appeared that it might have been leaning a bit on the passenger's side, but I didn't think much of it as the car materially handled as usual. As you will see from the pictures, I am quite lucky to not have been involved in a serious crash because the sharp angle of the spring failure could have caused a punctured tire while I was driving. As an aside, in my research I have found a recall for spring failures on Volkswagens, but for the rear springs and starting in 2015, and my car is a 2014 with a front spring failure. Still, it does make one think it could somehow be related.

17 Suspension problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 05/28/2022

This may, I started hearing a rattling noise under the right front corner of my car. After several hours of looking, I discovered that the right front coil spring was broken! because of that I couldn't drive my car until it was fixed. On June 3, I bought a used strut assembly from economy auto parts in fort wayne, indiana. Well since struts have to be replaced in pairs, on June 8th, I bought another used strut assembly from the same place. After replacing struts you have to get a front-end alignment too. The parts totaled $85. 60. The front-end alignment at belle tire in warsaw, indiana was $59. 99. I have pictures showing the broken spring. I called my local Volkswagen dealer about a recall on those springs, but they said no. You can't drive your car with a broken spring. A broken spring could result in multiple things happening. A piece of the broken spring could fall off and cause a tire to blow out, it could sever the brake line, or sever the abs sensor wire at the wheel position. And then the broken spring could fall out onto the road and damage another car, motorcyle or truck. There's a number of things that can wear out on a motor vehicle, but a spring only breaks if it is overloaded or has a manufacturing defect. I've noticed on several vw forums online that front coil spring failure is not uncommon. One more thing, when I called my local vw dealer, they said it would cost over $500 to replace just one strut assembly. I think that vw should have to replace the inspect the coil springs, and that they should be replaced if needed.

18 Suspension problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 05/22/2022

Front driver strut coil spring snapped while driving.

19 Suspension problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 03/28/2022

Since we've owned it (bought new), every coil spring has broken. The last one is being repaired today at the vw dealership. The car has about 77k miles. I have never had any springs break on any other car, and one had 120k miles on it. This is obviously a car defect and the part has been recalled for the golf and several other vehicles. This is also a safety hazard; what could happen if one breaks while going 70mph down a busy highway? I believe the first one broke maybe 4 years ago.

20 Suspension problem of the 2017 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 02/16/2022

The contact owns a 2017 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that while driving at 55 mph, he heard an abnormal rattling noise and experienced difficulty steering the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. As the contact attempted to pull over to inspect the vehicle, he noticed that the rattling noise was coming from the front driver’s side spring. Despite the failure, the contact was able to drive the vehicle home without further incidence. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 99,000.

21 Suspension problem of the 2021 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 11/01/2021

1. It's not stable to drive in highway. Problem starts at around 55mph. 2. When I stop in traffic light suddenly rpm goes up and car jumps forward. It happened several times. The car was warm and in drive mode. I'm sure it shouldn't do this. Now when I stop in traffic light and pedestrian crossing in front of me, every time I put it to neutral and hold brake, in other ways just holding brake sometimes can not stop the car. If someone calls me I give more details.

22 Suspension problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/30/2021

The vehicles infotainment or screen often malfunctions creating hazardous conditions. The monitor that is the only way to access certain vehicle setting and systems, intermittently shuts off completely, changes screens or settings, disconnects from cell phone or distorts audio and changes audio volume to inappropriate levels. The suspension during weather changes makes loud creaking noises and during cold months has choppy suspension that makes it difficult to see when going over imprefections or bumps, and during warm months is unreasonably bouncy creating the same issue. The blind spot monitoring seems to not detect a vehicle while it is actually in the blind spot and doesn’t produce the warning light or noise. The blind spot monitoring only detects the other vehicle once it is out of the blind spot and visible from the driver’s peripheral and continues to display until they have fully passed. It’s ridiculous this model year wasn’t fully recalled due to its extensive issues that affect almost all dimensions of the 2019 vw Jetta’s basic functionality, safety, and performance.

23 Suspension problem of the 2016 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/02/2021

Driver side strut spring snapped. Car became undrivable and pulled to the left, body is very close to tire and spring could cause tire to blow out . Spring is rusted from the inside out car is at dealership for repairs no warning at all just a rattle then a loud snap.

24 Suspension problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/20/2021

Rear suspension springs needed to be replaced. Both were snapped in two pieces, one happened to be broken but held together (stacked top to bottom) as two separate pieces. Nothing occurred to the car to cause this. Car has approximately 90,000 miles.

25 Suspension problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/05/2021

The spring in the back left suspension fell off/broke. We heard a loud clank on the highway and were able to slowly steer to a local mechanic. The back left of the car sunk over the wheel, he looked under and told us the issue. And in fact, the same thing happened when we first bought the car to the front left suspension and we were reimbursed by vw van nuys. Vw ventura replaced the front two suspension systems. Vw seaside currently has the car and will be replacing the back two suspension systems. We looked up the issue, and many other drivers with this make and model have had the suspension springs go out, a rare and dangerous issue. There were no warning messages prior to failure and if the spring had punctured the tire it could have caused an accident and risked lives.

26 Suspension problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/01/2021

The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was an abnormal knocking sound coming from underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the rear passenger’s side coil spring had fractured. Additionally, the front passenger’s and driver’s side coil springs were also fractured. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.

27 Suspension problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 06/19/2021

I own a 2015 Volkswagen Jetta se tsi and the rear coil spring on my drivers side snapped into 3 pieces. I was just on the highway and was coming through torrential downpour in the middle of rhode island. I was lucky enough to just have pulled in my drive way and put the car into park when a loud bang occured and my car dropped on the driver side a few inches. There were zero warning signs or indicator lights. The car just drooped. Could have been a disaster had it happed in the downpour on my way home.

28 Suspension problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 02/17/2021

Coil springs break randomly in cold weather making car handle erratically and without warning. Vw has recalled many coil springs on other models but not the Jetta hybrid which uses the same components. Very unsafe.

29 Suspension problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 02/14/2021

Both my front tires unraveled on separate occasions within a months timeframe on the inside wheel well. I was driving and I heard some loud noise and noticed the tire and when removed there was metal showing all along the inside of the tire and about a foot of unraveled rubber wrapped around the axle. This same thing happened a couple weeks later to the other front tire.

30 Suspension problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/13/2020

Abs and stability control became inoperative at around 50mph. It's a 55mph road thats heavily trafficked since its near a port. I had to stop the car on the side of the road since we almost crashed into an 18 wheeler. Fortunately we were close to home I drove the car at a reasonable speed just to get home. After that incident we have stopped using this vehicle since it gets even more dangerous every time, especially when it rains. Since then brake light has come on and hydraulic and suspension has been bad. This happened last year when pandemic was still full force and without a vehicle. Had to save and buy a more reliable vehicle for our own safety. I know this is a really good car but I really hope y’all can help me fix this since it’s really not the consumer’s fault. I’ve checked there is a recall for this but my “jetta” is not in those vehicles that were recalled. I really cant drive the vehicle therefore I have no use for it. Please let me know if something could be done since I wouldn’t like to pay out of pocket for something that could be done by the manufacturer and even save our and others life’s in the future when more vehicle owners come forward. Thank you for your time.

31 Suspension problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/06/2020

While having the brakes replaced it was determined that the right front suspension spring is broken. This is in addition to my first report of a rear spring breaking while driving.

32 Suspension problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/11/2020

The left-front suspension partially collapsed while making a turn at low speed into a parking space. I drove short distance to my mechanic who told a) there were breaks at both ends and the center of the left-front spring and breaks at both ends of the right front spring, b) the center break in the right spring would have pierced the tire if it had rotated a bit more, c) this failure is occurring on so many vw's that there is a back-order on springs, so it cannot be repaired at this time. This would have been extremely dangerous if the suspension had collapsed at higher speed or if the tire had been pierced. ## #vpic# 1 - check digit (9th position) does not calculate properly #vpic#.

33 Suspension problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 06/19/2020

I have a 2019 vw Jetta gli bought new from vw dealer. When you first start the car in the morning or after its been sitting, basically cold, it idles very rough. The whole car vibrates and shakes. After the car warms up this goes away. The ride of the car feels like there is no suspension. You feel every bump in the road. I have never gotten motion sick from a vehicle while driving. This car gives me motion sickness every time I drive it. I have had others drive the car and report the say thing. I have had passengers in the car and they can't believe how hard the ride is. I have tried all the modes eco, normal, sport and they all have a horrible ride quality. The worst thing is I was driving the car home after work and while sitting at a red light the a/c stopped blowing cold air. After coming off the red light I started smelling fuel coming from the a/c system. The a/c system was on max a/c with the recirc on, so was not on fresh air. Pulled over, opened the hood and saw fire coming from between the engine and firewall on the passenger side. I dropped the hood and the fire ball shot out the side passenger side right behind the passenger front tire. The side and under carriage of the car was on fire and is burnt up. I contacted the dealer they said to drive it in and they will take a look at it. Drive it in???? after it was on fire???.
