26 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Over a week and 200 miles after filling up. With diesel. The car suffered a fuel system failure resulting in a complete engine shutdown at 45 mph with no restart. This included a reduction in steering and braking power. Vw dealer still has the car as of 3/27/2012. Claiming high levels of gasoline in the fuel. When asked how they determined the presence of gasoline they said they could see it in a sample. No real analysis. Just visual assessment. Opened an incident report with fuel supplier and they say it is most likely a difference in seasonal mixes of diesel fuels. Vw says they are going to repair the car for free then void my warranty on the fuel system.

The vehcile was towed to dealership later that morning. This is the second incident of vehicle losing power and not being able to restart it. First incident was approxiamtely six months prior to this one. There have been only two drivers for this vehicle and there has been no issue of cross contamination of fuels. The vehicle is a 2010 tdi Jetta.

29 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Attempted to start 2011 Jetta tdi with 11000 miles after it had been sitting in a parking lot for 9 hours. Temperature 45f outside. Vehicle started perfectly and then died seconds later. Attempted to start vehicle again, but would not turn over. Had a lot of trouble getting it to start and when it did it was running very rough and then would die immediately. Finally able to start vehicle and keep it running after approximately 30 minutes. Was able to drive 30+ miles home - started fine after. This is the second occurrance. This first occurred approximately 1 month ago with 8000 miles on vehicle. Outside temperature was in mid forties. Car would not start at all - kept turning over, but would not start. Glow plug light flashed intermitently. After waiting approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour the car started up fine without hesitation. 32 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 11/09/2011

2010 vw Jetta tdi with roughly 35,650 miles. While driving up the on-ramp to enter the interstate, glow plug dash light came on and warned to "check engine now. " within 20 seconds, the car lost all power, and luckily I was able to coast over to the shoulder of the interstate (with drivers flying by at 65+mph at 9:45pm). Vehicle would not restart and had to be towed to the vw dealership. Service rep claimed "fuel contamination," with metal shards all throughout the fuel system. Entire fuel system has to be replaced ($10,000 repair) with equivalent, new parts. According to vw service technicians, the parts have not been updated despite vw's knowledge of this problem. As a result, "fuel contamination" could happen again, and the car could shut off while driving at any time without notice. This is a very serious safety concern. Luckily, because I was driving at night, there was not a lot of congestion on the road. Had this happened during rush hour, there very likely would have been a severe accident. Vw claims the problem is a result of the poor quality of american diesel fuel supply, saying the tdis are designed in germany to run on 100% diesel that's found in europe. If this is the case, why are they selling german designed cars in the united states that doesn't have fuel supplies that are 100% diesel? Volkswagen needs to issue a recall of the 2009/2010 Jetta tdi.

The events all happened within 20 seconds of each other, with no other warning.

34 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 10/21/2011

2012 Jetta tdi manual, the first occurrence happened after traveling on a downhill grade when I came to a complete stop at the stoplight the car started to shutter and acted like it was going to stall. This exact incident happened several times a month for no rhyme or reason. The car has now started to do the same thing more frequently and will now stall out. It used to be on cold starts and would happen within the first 10 miles of driving. It now does it anytime you are driving. I tried to start the car after work three days ago and when I started the car it shuttered and stalled, I attempted to start the car three more times before it finally stayed started. While driving home the car acted up again at the stop light shuttering and acting like it was going to stall out. The car had to be towed to the dealership. The dealership can't figure out the problem. I am scared that I will be out in the intersection or worse be on the expressway and the car will stall out and I will end up getting hit.
