36 Headlights problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 11/02/2015

My Jetta se 2013 keeps stalling while driving. It happened since I bought it and took it to the dealership a couple of times, and nothing wrong was found. It has happened a few times during the highway and almost have been in a couple of deadly accidents. This has also happened while driving in regular streets at about 30-40mph. I have been reading that this is a common issue, but so far vw has not done anything about it. Also, both headlights are not working anymore. It seems might be an issue with some sensors, but nothing that they have been able to identify.

38 Headlights problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/04/2015

I have issues with the headlights. Every other month my headlight goes out. When I drove off the lot I had one headlight. This has been ongoing for almost 2 years. When I change it the other side goes out. I know thats not normal. And then one day I had been running arrends and made a stop . I was wearing flip flops that day. Well when I went to turn around in my seat to get what was being handed to me from my girlfriend I burned my three little toes ! !!! I immieately went under the steering wheel <dash> and seen it was a pipe not covered. I have had many cars and I have never felt any thing so hot under a dash. I had three blisters. Each toe had a tiny blister. Thats when I seen all the rust everywher or anywhere there is metal is covered with rust. There was a recall on the rear end . I noticed after I took it in that the tires diidnt look even in the back. Driver side tire bows inward on the top side and the other side doesnt. The air bag light well thats always on . . And when I checked the air filter it smelled like it was in an electrical fire . My horn sounds defective. Barely hear it. And the windsheild wiper has aloud noise when operating.

39 Headlights problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 05/23/2015

I went to leave a friends house last night. It was dark and when I turned on my headlights, the low beam would not work. I opened the owners manual to find a fuse location, and there is no diagram in there to show what fuses were which. I pulled the fuse covers on both fuse panels only to find out they are not on there either. I drove the car home with my high beams on as this was the only lights I had. I blinded everyone for the five mile trip home. How is one supposed to fix something a simple as a blown fuse, when the manufacture does not indicate locations.

41 Headlights problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/05/2015

I was on route 95 in florida driving at night and a car had cut in front of me I honk my horn and then both of my headlights blew. I had to put flashers on and get off next exit to find a auto parts store where they change both headlight bulbs. I then checked for recalls on my car found out that the horn was faulty and that it could cause electronic malfunction and shut engine off. Headlights are working now but my horn does not work. Contacted vw about recall and they said that since I had high mileage. That I had no warranty on the vehicle and that I would be responsible for the repairs.

42 Headlights problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

Right side headlight stopped working. I took it to an independent mechanic who changed the light bulb. One day later, the right side headlight stopped working again.

43 Headlights problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 11/03/2014

I have 2009 Volkswagen Jetta 2. 5 and I have problems with my cars. 1) all my lights, except for the left side of headlight, are not working. All the lights went out at the same time. I changed the bulbs but still do not work. 2) since lights started to not work, I get seat belt warning signs and alarms even if I am wearing the seatbelts. 3) when I try to wash my front window with the wipers, window washier(liquid) would not come out.

44 Headlights problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/14/2014

Vehicle is equipped with an rcd 510 2din touchscreen radio (delphi premium - 8). Hands free operation comes through this system. On the morning of 8/14/14 I started my car and the radio system was dead. Totally dead, as if there is no power getting to it whatsoever. I checked all fuses (engine compartment, interior of car and the 15 amp fuse located in rear of the radio) and all were fine. It may be a coincidence, but my left headlight has burned out twice in the last 6 months, most recently in early August 2014. In addition, my sirius annual subscription ended on the exact day of the radio dying.

45 Headlights problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/08/2014

The contact owns a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta. While driving approximately 35 mph, the low beam headlights suddenly shut off and failed to illuminate again. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the light bulbs in order to remedy the failure. In addition, while driving at an unknown speed during inclement weather, the windshield wipers failed to activate. The dealer stated that the bcm module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 45,000.

46 Headlights problem of the 2007 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/07/2014

My car's driver's headlight went out. I had someone look at it, only to be told that the wiring in the harness/headlight assembly was exposed (the colored coating protecting the wiring was gone). I ordered a left headlight assembly. In the meantime, the old headlight assembly was brought to the vw dealer, only to be told that they "see a lot of these come in", but was advised that there is no recall or ownership of poor quality from vw. When the part came in and was being installed, I was then told that the right headlight assembly also needed to be replaced, for the exact same reason. I wasn't allowed to drive the car as I was told it was a major safety issue. I was told that if the exposed wires touched each other, the car could just stop or, perhaps the headlights would not work at all, which would be especially dangerous if I were driving at night. Either way, I was told an accident of some sort would occur, which is why I wouldn't be allowed to use the car while waiting for the part to come in. If vw has seen "a lot of these" incidents coming into their service department, one would question why there hasn't been a recall on the headlights. This is a highly dangerous situation, allowing drivers to be out on the roads when the car has inferior and defective electrical parts. Dangerous for the driver and passengers. . . Dangerous for the others who might be involved should an accident occur. I do hope that a follow-up with vw comes out of this complaint as this is a safety hazard. A recall should be in order and I would greatly appreciate anything you can do to make this happen. Thank you for keeping us safe and providing a place where complaints, such as mine, can be heard.

47 Headlights problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 06/30/2014

This complaint is for the 2011 vw Jetta sportwagon tdi . There is a manufacture defect that caused the fuse box under the hood to melt. This caused most of the lights on the exterior to fail, which included the headlights, taillights, break-lights, ect. There were recalls on similar models, but not this specific car. There needs to be a recall on this car to prevent potential injuries.

48 Headlights problem of the 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

The contact owns a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that while traveling 25 mph, the drivers side door indicator sounded throughout the vehicle and the drivers side door ajar warning light illuminated intermittently. The contact mentioned that when activating the headlights there would be an abnormal noise. The failure occurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was diagnosed that the door latch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 130,000 and the current mileage was 135,000.

Failure Date: 11/21/2013

The contact owns a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta tdi. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the passenger's side headlights failed without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the technician diagnosed that the fuse box was overheating and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 60,100.

51 Headlights problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 11/19/2013

Dashboard lights would not work when headlights were turned on, including right/left indicator lights. I brought the car into marten's vw service on 11/20/13 in bethesda MD. They reported the fuse box had started to melt and had to be replaced for $580. It is no longer under warranty. This seems to be a flaw that online research has shown. The vw technician said "it is a problem with these cars". He said the new fuse boxes are made differently now. Shouldn't this have been a recall item?.

52 Headlights problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 10/28/2013

All fine in the morning, parked in a paved lot at work. Leaving in the afternoon instrument cluster told me a light was out. By the time I was leaving the parking lot the following were not working: left: font side, rear turn. Right: headlight, daytime running light, front turn, rear tail. License plate lights. A friend is an ase master tech. This is what he found: "so to follow up on this. If you look at the fuse it appears to be '¿¿cooked'¿ on one side. This would indicate heat on only one side of the fuse. I think we can agree this is not a fuse issue, but a wiring or supply issue. With the knowledge that when you try and run to many amps through too small a wire it creates excess heat I would venture that vw put too small a wire on one side of fuse 16. The fuse block is in the engine compartment in fr of the brake booster. The 16 fuse is towards the back of the block and the burnt side was towards the passenger side of the car. I am not sure how worried I would get about this, but simply put a few 30amp fuses in the glove box. Ya there is an issue there, but the first one lasted 39k. " I have the fuse. . Read more...

54 Headlights problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 12/01/2012

I purchased a used 2011 Volkswagen Jetta in July 2012 with approximately 20,000 miles. 6 months later I noticed that one of the front headlights was out. I looked up the replacement bulb and pruchard a h7 halogen bulb for approximately $25. A few more months down the road the other headlight went out, again, I purchased the replacement bulb at price point of $25. Since then I have replaced each headlight at least two more times. With that said, I am now coming to the conclustion that there has to be an electrical problem with the Jettas headlights. I've noticed other Jetta's on the road with headlights out as well. In most cars lights last at least year or more. I recall in a previous vehicle I replacement the lights once and that was after 3 maybe 4 years, and these were all day running lights. The cost to take the car to the dealership would be $149 and that is just to look at the car. That would be unfair for me to pay $149 every time the light goes out becuase of an electical issue I have no control over.

55 Headlights problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 04/10/2012

The contact owns a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that the headlight was defective. The dealer diagnosed that the main fuse box melted, causing five exterior lights to become defective. The manufacturer was not notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 79,000.

56 Headlights problem of the 2004 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 05/04/2011

We have a 2004 vw Jetta, but this concern is with most 7 year old and older vehicles. The headlight construction is inferior to vehicles earlier in the 1900s – never with cars I have owned from 1954 until the last few have I see headlights fog- turn opaque or yellow. The plastic used is inferior to the glass used on older vehicles and as such it is a safety hazard to all drivers. Since it is the use of an inferior material it is a defect and should become safety recalls by the manufacturer rather then a band-aid buff out kit that the vehicle owner, must bear the expense, and try to use or have a repair shop do at the owner's expense. Headlight surfaces should last the life of a vehicles, barring damage in accidents they should perform safely throughout a one’s ownership.

57 Headlights problem of the 2007 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 11/29/2010

My 2007 wolfsburg Jetta just stalled on me last night. The esc lights came on and then the battery light came on and then the engine died. I lost all power and coasted off to the side of the road. I thought it was the battery but all my lights, radio, headlights worked. I tried to start it but the red steering light came on too. I got it towed to the dealership because it should still be under warranty(<4 years, <40,000 miles). Luckily this happened in a residential neighborhood where I was able to safely get out of traffic. If this had happened on the freeway, a more serious accident could have occurred. This car was bought new and has never given me any issues.

58 Headlights problem of the 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/06/2008

I own a 2001 vw Jetta. I bought it 3 years ago, used from the Volkswagen dealership. The automobile was sold as a "certified" auto, which I found out later does not mean much. My trunk is locked shut and does not open manually or with remote, I've had to replace cv boots, catalytic converter, transmission and numerous headlight, taillight and blinker bulbs. And today one of my headlights is so dim, it doesn't really provide any light when it is dark. I have replaced it and replaced it. It stays fine for about 2 days and then just dims out again. I can't afford to keep taking it to Volkswagen. It's a rip off and they don't even fix anything right anyway. My engine fan went out all of the sudden the other day, causing the car to overheat. I had to get it towed. That isn't the first time I have had to pay to have it towed. The interior plastic coating on armrests and all plastic inside is peeling and looks terrible. When I push unlock all doors, the driver's side back seat door will not open unless I reach inside and pull the lock open manually. There is so much more, but I don't want to waste my time. I know nothing will happen, even though it is so obvious that these cars are complete lemons, and they need to stop selling them to people.

59 Headlights problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 02/14/2008

I am leasing a 2006 vw Jetta since Jan. 2006. Ever since, periodically one of the daylight headlights (mostly the right light) does not turn off after turning off the motor. I then turn the motor back on, move the car and turn it off again. The light will then turn off. Vw service is aware of this problem but could never detect anything wrong with it. 6 weeks ago, my brake light went out and the bulbs needed to be replaced. On Feb 3rd, the daylight headlights turned off while I was driving. It was very dangerous because toas had a snowstorm and the supporting headlights (smaller) were not sufficient enough. I called vw headquarters on 2-3 and explained what happened. I wanted vw to start a case on it, replaced the headlight bulbs and credit me for the brake light I replaced earlier, because I think that the lighting issue comes from one source. I made an appointment with vw service for 2-5, but had to reschedule for 2-12 due to a snowstorm. However, meanwhile the daylight headlights turned back on again (after two days of not functioning). I brought the car to have the lights checked and vw service was not able to find anything wrong, but started a case on it. Meanwhile, vw headquarter called and told me that there is nothing wrong with the car. Yesterday again, the lights did not turn off after parking, and I almost had it towed to the dealership just to prove that I am not making anything up! it is very frustrating to deal with such incompetent people at the dealership and vw headquarter. I am worried that my child and my safety is at stake.

60 Headlights problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/31/2008

Over the past 11 months of owning my vehicle, I have had to replace the headlights (lightbulb only) seven times. Also, other various brake and running lights have gone out. The first time, I had the vehicle for 1 day off the lot (used). The fix is obviously going to purchase new headlights. I've tried high quality sylvania h7 lights, and also tested the lower quality to see if it would last longer, or hold out at all. Vw (via a dealership, not corporate) has indicated that it could be an electrical problem, a seal in the headlight assembly, or the obvious poor ventilation to relieve the heat build-up. There is a plastic cap inside the engine compartment on each headlight that is required to be removed to access the sockets. It does get very hot in there. Vw did indicate this is a common problem, but does not cover bulb replacement under warranty, as frequent or infrequent as it might happen. On a separate note, autozone (local parts distributor) has made comments indicating the type of bulb (h7) is of poor design on any vehicle. Another acquaintance has advised me on her vw, there are similar lighting issues. I am seeking a resolve, as the lights are rather expensive alone, and letting the dealership fix them extremely costly. The incident date listed was the first time it occurred to my vehicle, and the last time was 2 weeks ago. To note, the headlight usually blows out when I start the vehicle, not when it's running. The headlights are always on, daytime running lights. I am extremely cautious as to not touch the bulb directly, as I know this to cause damage.

62 Headlights problem of the 2003 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 11/13/2007

The front headlight lenses have oxidized/deteriorated and has diffused the light to the point it is unsafe to drive at night. I had the lenses polished two years ago, and now they need polishing again. I don't feel that I should have to bear the burden of a safety issue like this.

63 Headlights problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 11/01/2007

2006 vw Jetta recall on headlamp inspection/modification. Consumer states that the headlamps are now back where they were. Consumer also states that the high beams shine into the tree tops. The consumer stated the high beams were useless as they shined about 20 feet down the road. There was absolutely no illumination change looking down the road between the low beams and the high beams. The consumer had the headlights adjusted so that the high beams were effective, but then the low beams shined down very close to the front of the vehicle which did not provide illumination far enough down the road. Recall # 07v442000.

65 Headlights problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 03/04/2007

The high beam headlamp assemblies on my 2006 Volkswagen Jetta tdi are designed in a manner that I feel is extremely dangerous. The design of these headlamps is such that the high beams cannot be adjusted independently of the low beams. When the low beams are aimed correctly, the high beams are aimed far too high to be effective. This headlamp design could most definitely result in an accident and I do not understand how they are even consistent with the dot lighting code.

66 Headlights problem of the 2002 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 03/01/2007

Headlight lens become very milky. Light will not shine on road. Can't see the road or other cars. Can cause damage and death to others. Volkswagen should make them lasts longer and replace all milky headlighs with new ones. All 1999-2005 Jettas 1998-2005 passats have this problem. Go to any Volkswagen dealer and you will see the problem.

67 Headlights problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 12/20/2006

I noticed high beams were very high right after I took delivery in Nov. 2005. Because, at the time, I did very little night driving, it didn't bother me. It wasn't until about October,2006, when I had some night local driving to do, that I noticed how the high-beams so nicely lit up my neighbors second story windows. I quickly learned to use 'low-beams only" in our development!!! I called ton bush motors in jacksonville to ask if they had found a cure for this problem. They said the service mgr said he thought he could take care of it. As I have been following these complaints for a while on the 'net, my first thought was "OH, sure. " on 12/20/06, I left the car with the service people. Within 30 minutes they paged me, saying that it's all set. That night, I drove the car all thru' the development. . . . . . . Not a single case of second story lighting !!! and the low-beams give adequate coverage. I drove onto florida a1a the next night south to st augustine, and had great visibility the whole way. I don't know what "tech 336" did, but my lights are now fine.

68 Headlights problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 11/25/2006

The high and low headlights are not capable of being adjusted independently. This is a safety concern because per manufacturer spec, the low beams are appropriately aimed, but the high beams illuminate only trees. If the headlights are adjusted so that the high beams are appropriately aimed, the low beams only illuminate a useless distance in front of the car.

69 Headlights problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 11/10/2006

The high beam headlamp assemblies on my 2006 Volkswagen Jetta tdi cannot be adjusted properly and I feel this creates a dangerous situation. The design of these headlamps is such that the high beams cannot be adjusted independently of the low beams. When the low beams are aimed correctly, the high beams are aimed far too high to be effective. The dealer claims the headlights are adjusted properly however the focus of the high beams it literally pointed up in the trees. This headlamp design could most definitely result in an accident.
