When driving the vehicle, the steering wheel while jiggle violently while an electrical noise is heard. This happened while driving on the interstate at 70 mph and I had to hit my breaks as I was fearful I didn't have control of the vehicle. It then continued to do it even at lower speeds. The vehicle has been to a service department where they state the steering rack and pinion has failed. There are no warning lights, lamps or messages. The vehicle is at 72k miles.

7 Steering problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/15/2024

I drove over a commercial-grade water hose unraveled in the middle of the lane. It had metal couplings on it and my oil pan was damaged due to the low riding body of the vw to the road. The vehicle was drivable for 5 minutes afterward & the low engine pressure light turned on, but I was in a dangerous area with traffic during rush hour in the evening. It was congested with multiple avenues of transportation via buses, scooters, and pedestrian crosswalks. I started to lose power steering and the gas pedal would not accelerate the car, but the brakes still worked. I was able to coast the car to a stop & nearby a midas car shop. Midas replaced the damaged oil pan and did not have any other damage reported. Midas informed me that my vehicle would not start, but failed to mention that the safety of my vehicle was compromised with rolled down windows. I inspected my car on 8. 20. 24, the battery was still working & powered the lights but the window power and engine would not operate. On 8. 22. 24 I paid for the work & noticed the windows were now rolled up & midas said an employee used the power from the battery to override the window system but the car still would not start and needed to go to a dealership to access the engine codes for this hybrid vehicle. Towed the vehicle to vw, who said that midas was not accurate in their description, as there were no access codes needed for the vehicle & it should have started once the oil pan was replaced. The vw diagnostic results showed a “bad” battery and the transmission failed/ stopped engaging and needed a replacement of the transmission along with the battery which would total $11k! the vw agent recommended that I contact other car repair companies to rebuild it for a more affordable solution. Midas and vw were the only car repair companies to evaluate my car and it is currently at vw where it can be inspected if needed. The safety recall code: 34j6, of 2015 vw Jetta hybrids somehow exclude some vins until owners had issues.

8 Steering problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/10/2024

The power steering on my vehicle malfunctioned, never giving me a warning as stated in the owner manual with a yellow steering light. As I was coming down a hill, the red steering light came on accompanied with a loud beep, and I lost power steering, nearly causing an accident. I had a mechanic look at it and the dtc codes he received were b200ff0 and b200f2 the dealership and independent service center I was recommended are unable to service the car for another 3 weeks. The only inspection done on my vehicle has been by a private mechanic there were no warning lights prior to the failure. The owner manual states a yellow steering wheel will illuminate to warn of an issue, then turn red if it's not addressed. This never happened. It went directly to red, and I lost steering during transit.

10 Steering problem of the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/03/2024

The car just stated saying “drive assist not available” it beeps every 5 minutes. Dealer says might need to change steering wheel which is in back order. It’s very annoying because it makes a very loud sound while driving. I researched and seems lots of owners are having the same issue.

11 Steering problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 05/20/2024

I am filing a complaint against Volkswagen group of America, I called they for assistants in fixing an issue with one of their dealers to replace an ignition switch. Volkswagen said they stand by their dealer and would not let me speak to the zone reps for that area or the dealer reps that assist the customer in coming to a solution. The ignition switch is a safety item and the dealer is trying to charge me a high price for a new key because they own a monopoly in the area.

12 Steering problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 04/19/2024

The steering lock has miraculously failed and several other individuals have made this complaint. Vw advised this is a known issue but has not issued a recall to have this fixed. Instead, we are forced to pay thousands to fix their mistake when it came to manufacturing.

15 Steering problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 12/02/2023

I remember having my keys in my hand and my car was slowly reversing out the driveway. I panicked, I was stomping on my brakes for a while jerking back and it took me about 2 minutes to finally get the key back in and try to put in park again. I went to a shop the following weekend because all the jerking and jabbing to get my key back in seems to have caused my ignition switch to misfire or whatever the word he (mechanic) used, so now I cannot take my key out like a regular person, I have to flick my key a certain way out anytime I want to turn my car off. (even mechanics have a hard time taking it out. I was also given a qr code to scan and was brought the this exact recall of the situation with my car. I now have my engine light on and oreilly gave me the fault code for my map sensor. I’m not sure if the two are related but this was following the incident.

This vehicle and other vehicles of the same model have a faulty ignition cylinder lock housing causing the key to be unable to turn the car to off and be removed from the ignition. This does not allow the driver to park and leave the car as the key remains stuck and unable to turn. This problem has been reported by a dealer as an issue that is fixed weekly on other vehicles of the same make and model in shop. The vehicle has been inspected by the Volkswagen dealership and determined to be a failure within the vehicle. The key in the ignition has occasionally become stuck but, now remains in the vehicle for consistently after each drive for up to 30 minutes of trying to remove it.

18 Steering problem of the 2008 Volkswagen Jetta

Important air bag issues should be freely be done by manufacturer or dealer. Also steering issues are more common than reported. The electrical devise fails too often rendering driving the vehicle difficult.

19 Steering problem of the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/01/2023

I bought this 2022 Jetta new on August 2022. The dealership replaced brakes on their own on July 1, 2023. This was 11 months after I purchased the vehicle. Vehicle had 10, 900 miles on 7/1/2023. On August 26, 2024 I brought the vehicle to the dealership and reported issues with the breaking system. The service technician discovered worn-out pads and break rotors needed replacement. The service department refused to complete the work because the vehicle was out of warranty. A claim was filed with Volkswagen corporation(case #06407327). Claim was declined. Break pads and rotors are being worn-out within 11-15 months. This is a safety issue. Volkswagen corporation refuses to recognize the mechanical issue.

21 Steering problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 05/22/2023

The key gets stuck in the ignition switch and the car is not able to turn off. In order to remove the key you have to jiggle it several times which could be minutes or up to an hour. Could be a safety issue if I’m somewhere and need to turn the car off immediately. Was told this is a costly repair but if this is a known issue (and it is) why is this not a recall when possible damage or injury could occur.

Failure Date: 08/26/2022

2014 Volkswagen Jetta gli. Part number 5k0953569al air bag clock spring failed leaving air bag and horn unusable. Dealerships say this is the most back ordered Volkswagen part. Many wait lists have several thousand people waiting with no end in sight. No one can provide a ship date. These cars cannot legally be on the road and cannot be sold back to a dealership because they won’t pass inspection. This part has been involved in a recall previously with the same issues, but not all affected cars are covered under the recall. I am personally unable to find a solution and my car has been unusable and unsafe. When I realized how normal and not unique my exact situation was, I felt the need to report this problem on behalf of the tens of thousands of people who are without safe vehicles, including myself. I am hoping that the recall can be extended to these other cars desk with the exact same clock spring issues so that we can be provided with solutions that can get our cars back on the road safely. Thank you for your time.
