1 Tire Blowout problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/01/2016

Bought a 2015 Jetta se in September of 2015. Vehicle was only serviced by a licensed dealership in maryland, and had just had it's 20,000 service. Told the tires were fine, and dealer rotated them. While driving in a parking lot at 5-10 mph, the two passenger tires blew out from the sidewall with a loud popping sound. No obstacles, or nails/glass etc. In the road, and nothing was ran over. Tires only had 20,500 miles on them, and were rated 8/32 by the dealer two weeks ago at the service appointment. Upon researching, there are numerous complaints about these tires, made by continental, blowing out on the sidewall. It has happened on highways and caused crashes and injuries, and they should be recalled before more folks get hurt. We were lucky that it happened in a parking lot at a very low speed, and I have replaced all 4 with safe tires for my daughter. Please investigate why this tire has a long track record of bbb and various complaints about the tires blowing out through the sidewall at low mileage for no apparent reason. Volkswagen did not take ownership or replace the tires and continental put us on hold indefinitely. I am out $70 for a tow, and $600 for the new tires but luckily no one was injured, thank you.

2 Tire Blowout problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/25/2014

Large split in the front right outside sidewall discovered. Upon inspection, gap was very noticable. Check the remaining three tires and no evidence of the same. Tires have approximately 15,000 miles. We decided to replace all four tires to keep the vehicle "balanced". New tires installed and was asked to come in to the shop to see the other three tires. All three had splits in the sidewall facing to the inside, which could not have been seen unless each tire was pulled off the vehicle. I asked to retain at least two of the tires in my possession, which I have now. I also have pictures of the splits that I hope I will be able to forward somewhere before I complete the complaint. Although there was no injurys, it could have been very catastophic if the tires blew out at freeway speeds.

5 Tire Blowout problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 03/28/2013

On a trip to st. Charles, mo on 28 Mar 2013, after we parked, my son noticed severe sidewall breaks on the left front tire. He said it looked like the tire was about to blow. I thought that he was joking, but looked any way. Wow. I have never seen such severe condition on any tire, nor had I ever even heard of such a condition . There were numerous short breaks and long breaks inches long all around the outside of the sidewall. The breaks went all the way in with metal belts showing. We had just finished driving 200 miles on the interstate to get to st charles. I honestly don't know how we made it without a blowout and crash. I went immediately, and slowly, to the nearest tire dealer and purchased two new tires. I asked them to save the other tire so I might use as a possible spare since the tires had plenty of tread left. They put the "good" tire in the trunk for me. I later looked at the "good" tire and found that the inside sidewall was even worse than the "bad" tire! I feel very fortunate that these oe tires didn't cause a terrible accident. The other oe tires look ok but I will be replacing quickly. These tires are hankook optimo h725a tires.

6 Tire Blowout problem of the 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/06/2007

While my wife was driving at 65mile per hour. . . . The made in brazil, summit tire p195/65r15 drivers side rear tire. . . Inside tread failed. The blowout, broke five bands, and lost about four square inches of tire at the blowout site. Tires are inflated to 35psi, and shows no sign that it was caused by impact damage. The tires had been replace less then two years ago, and had about twentfive thousand miles on them at the time. Damage was caused to the rim, wheel cover and wheel locks by a roadside tech. Whom attempted to change the tire. I was able to replace tire and have a new one installed at the tire center where it was originally purchased. The tire tech. Indicated that the other tire that I wanted replaced at the sametime was a "good tire", and as noted by myself and the tire tech. Still had not reached the wear gage. I explained that the two tires had been replaced at the same time. . . And due to the blowout, I did not feel that the batch maybe defective.

11 Tire Blowout problem of the 1998 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/15/2000

This car has been a pain in the a-- almost since purchase. The most serious problems have involved what seems to be defective wiring with respect to the electric windows. These have been repaired 3 times since the first incidence cited above,to the tune of $250, the last time being 6 months ago. Now I am told that it needs a new motor assembly to the tune of $650 parts and labor! other assorted door electrical problems. Other problems have been: door moldings falling off (this must be an inherent problem with '98 Jettas, because I've noticed that most of those that I see on the road have missing moldings). Both front tires blew out within 2 weeks of each other after an inappropiately short usage. Much lower gas mileage that originally promised. Most of these problems started well within warranty.
