2 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 10/01/2020

The car goes into neutral while driving it & will not return to gear. My car ending up stopping in the middle of the interstate! I was almost in a crash. The dealer repair said it was a mechatronic issue. The recall includes my year & model but somehow not my car? the dealer & vw corp told me my VIN specifically was not part of the transmission mechatronic recall but that's exactly what is happening. The VIN's need to be re-evaluated because the problem still exists. The car just comes out of gear & stops -- no warning!! now I'm stuck with a car that I am afraid to drive & cannot afford $4k repair (the dealer also stated it's a "dealer only" type of repair).

3 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/12/2020

While driving at 40 mph and attempting to make a left turn, the vehicle lost power with the check engine warning light illuminated. I placed the vehicle in park for 30 seconds and attempted to restart the vehicle, it turned on but would not go into gear. I then had it towed to the dealer (mission bay Volkswagen (address 2205 morena blvd, san diego, CA 92110) to be diagnosed. I was informed that there was a crack in the transmission which caused oil to leak into the electrical gearbox causing it to fail. I'm the second owner and it has 47,000 original miles on it.

6 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 04/13/2019

The transmission has always ground going into reverse. The dealership told me it was normal for the Jetta's. While driving, I will put it into 1st gear and start moving, and then it will either get "stuck" into first or second gear, I can take it out of gear but cannot engage another gear. When this happens, you can smell the clutch burning. Took it into the dealership and they assured me my transmission and clutch were fine. Doesn't happen all the time, only about once a month and it happens in varying weather conditions. No two times were the conditions the same. I have not changed my driving, I am not hard on my vehicles. My 2014 fiesta st had the stock transmission and clutch until I sold it in 2019, never slipped or ground into gears, along with my 6 other manual transmission vehicles I've owned. I feel like Volkswagen just doesn't want to fix their terrible transmissions and clutches and tries to blame it on user error.

7 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 04/07/2016

While driving with a total of 26,415 miles, the manual transmission suddenly failed. Specifically, after stopping in front of my son's school on a city street to put car into reverse to parallel park, the stick shift would not go into gear. I was stuck in the roadway and had to solicit two men to push my car to the side of the road to await towing to the dealership under the 3 year warranty. Come to find out vw does not warranty the clutch except for the slave cylinder, and thus considers all other mechanical failure to be user wear and tear. I have noted many Jetta owners on the internet complaining of the same problem with as few as 2930 miles driven. In 30 years of driving a manual transmission, the past 13 in vws, I have never had any clutch problems, issues, work or replacements. I am still waiting for them to officially "diagnose" the problem after agreeing to pay $500 to take out and examine the transmission, and bear that cost and all other parts/labor if they determine the cause is anything besides the slave cylinder. Yet my problem is not with the clutch but engaging the stick into gear and thus unlikely to be diagnosed as the slave cylinder. Clearly there is a history of shoddy or cheap clutch parts for which vw fails to take responsibility and instead shifts costs onto its customers claiming user wear and tear. After failing prey to the faulty sunroof problem in a prior 2003 gli and paying to fix it myself after eight years of dealer bandaids and missing the class action lawsuit, you would think I would have learned and bought something else.

8 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 05/20/2015

When starting to accelerate, my Jetta will randomly shift with a very hard jerk. Took it to the local vw dealer here in germany but they could not duplicate it (my car is us spec, but we are stationed abroad). The service manager sent a message to the engineers for possible solution but it took another 6 weeks to get advice which was to do a reset on the computer. That did not work as now when it happens, it sometimes acts as though it is not in gear, rpm's rev, but car barely moves, making it unsafe on the roadway. When I pull over, turn off the engine, and then restart it, it is usually fine again for a little bit. But because it is a random occurrence and they cannot replicate it, the technicians do not see it as a problem.

11 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 10/10/2014

I have been having issues on my 2005. 5 vw Jetta for the last several months with it shifting hard or not going into gear. It happens every time the car is driven, so much to the point that I will not let my daughter or wife drive the car as I do not feel it is safe for them. They have been stuck in the middle of the road and the car would just sit there and rev, but never engage in drive or it would shift so hard that they felt like they had whiplash. I took it to a repair shop and they told me it needs a new transmission with the price somewhere between $3-5k, probable close to $7k if you go to the dealer. After doing some research online, it appears this is a common issue and vw is aware of the problem, but so far not willing to do something about it. It is a safety issue and should not take a person dying for them to correct the issue. I have been a loyal vw owner for years, but am not willing to risk the life of my family for a company who does not care about their consumers. This is an issue that needs to be addressed immediately.

12 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 10/01/2012

Volks 2012 Jetta tdi. At highway speed of approx 55-60 mph, with cruise control engaged, transmission seemed to come out of gear, engine revved and tachometer red-lined, vehicle began to slow, but obviously not loose power as evidenced by tachometer and high rpm's on engine. After tachometer red-lined, tachometer then began to drop and at about 5,000 rpm, transmission shifted a couple of times and then operation of vehicle was back to normal. Oddly, cruise did not have to be reset and seemed unaware of the event that had just occurred. Entire event occurred in the span of about 5 seconds. Took vehicle to dealer. Service documentation says "we scanned for faults and had a sporadic fault for gear shift control module. Performed test plan and found no problems. We cleared faults. " another service showed the error code with verbiage something to the effect of "lost communication with gear shift control module. " dealer would not replace gear shift control module and stated that if it happens again, return and they will replace. Clearly this is a safety issue, particularly when it occurs on a highway at highway speeds with congested highway traffic and clearly could have resulted in an accident.

13 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/25/2012

2005. 5 Jetta--vehicle has rough shifting between 2nd and 3rd gears. As well as downshifting. While driving on a mountainside, going 65 mph, the car suddenly downshifted to 3rd gear and would not accelerate. I had to pull over on the side of a mountain, with cars flying by me. The car would not shift gears until turned off and on again. This is now happening during regular acceleration at low speeds. This is a huge safety concern, as I could have been rear ended by another vehicle due to loss of power/speed.

14 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

New volks Jetta 2012. Purchased new from volks dealership with approx. 40 miles on vehicle at time of purchase. Since day one and continuing through today with 12,000 miles on odometer, transmission lurches and jerks, either slipping in and out of gear or seemingly not able to figure out which gear to be in. Usually occurs while trying to maintain a constant speed. For example, while in school zone with 20 mph speed limit, car will lurch, jerk and shudder, sometimes violently with the symptoms described above. Additionally, when coming to a stop at a stop light for instance two conditions frequently present. 1. After coming to a complete stop, transmission is still in the process of downshifting. In other words, once completely stopped, you can feel the transmission still shifting down through the last couple of gears. 2. After coming to a complete stop at a light, when attempting to accelerate, car is not in gear and requires depression of gas peddle before car will engage in first gear. All of the above are dangerous situations. Dealer continues to insist that transmission is "learning" my driving habits.

15 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2002 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 05/20/2012

After starting the car and letting it warm up. I drove out of my driveway to the stop sign. Made a right turn and then a quick left. After turning the car could not go into gear, the rpms kept racing up . But the gear would not engage. Pulled into a store parking lot and drove around in circles at this low speed . Until finally the car jumped into gear and I took off. Car was diagnosed as having a bad mother board to the cars computer. It drove fine for a few days then at a stop light it jumped off again. (car was warm because I had driven a distance). Today I had the transmission flushed and changed. No improvement again. Usually the car will drive straight after it's real warm. But if I make a sharp turn the car jerks and revs up the rpms just as if it was cold. The vw folks kept misdiagnosing and giving me the wrong parts (these must be the same people that made the transmission. They've been a nightmare for assistance very unknowledgeable. I have been buying Volkswagens since1974. I have never had such a crappy piece of a car(also my first time owning a car with a automatic transmission and my last). It drives beautifully (when it's working) but has all plastic crap for parts. (while still under warranty I had most of that replaced). But to find that the transmission is faulty I demand a recall on this 2002 vw Jetta 1. 8t. I promise I'lll never buy another vw or will I let any one I know or contact through social media purchase a vw. I can actually say we have been ripped off by vw with their low standards for a car. These cars used to last forever what a way to rip off the public form for money! just like toyoto had a recall Volkswagen you need to recall this unrepairable car no and save your advertisement fees, because bad news travel faster. .

17 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 10/03/2011

Upon entering an on-ramp and also accelerating around a turn, experienced no response to depression of gas pedal. Basically car had serious lag before taking off. Worried about safety issue when trying to get out of someones way. Very unpredictable in occurance and do not want to have a wreck. Also experienced "stuttering" around 30 mph as if vehicle did not know which gear to get into. This happens frequently and creates a physical shutter of vehicle felt by driver and passengers.

18 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

I purchased a 2005 new Jetta automatic transmission in July of 2010. It currently has 72,000 miles. 3 issues. One, when the car is first started up, a clanging noise occurs and lasts for approx 30 seconds, then it sounds like a vent closes and the sound goes away. Two, the right front headlight will not turn off sometimes when I pull along side a curb. I have to restart the car, back the car up, then pull the car forward to get it to turn off. The third item occurs intermittently not always and envolves shifting of gears. When the car is going approximately 20 to 30 miles per hour, it seems to bounce back and forth between 2nd and 3rd gear a little rough but not jerky and sometimes when coasting through an intersection the car seems to hesitate when I am ready to push on the gas. But then, after a couple seconds, engages into gear with a lunge. I recently took the car to a transmission shop for analysis and the man said he could not produce any codes. I told him I had received the letter about the transmission's valve body warranty extension. He drove the car and said the car definetly lunges and told me to get it to a vw dealership for a check up as he was not an authorized vw tech. I took the car to the nearest dealership which is 2 hours away from my home. They drove the car 3 separate times trying to produce the scenario I described but could not. The tech told me it sounded like I was describing the valve body issue and he would tell the service advisor that he had felt the prob and that my car needed a new valve body. When I picked up my car, the car would not drive above 20 mph without the engine roaring and the shifting hard into gear everytime. Me and my daughter had pulled out into a very busy 40 mph traffic. It was scary. At one point the car would not go into any gear! I returned the car to the dealership and told them something was seriously wrong. Next day, they told me my car needs a new transmission at my cost of $5000. What happen?.

22 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2008 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/21/2009

I have a 2008 Volkswagen Jetta 2. 0t wolfsburg edition with the dsg transmission. Around 5,000 miles, I started experiencing banging of gears when I was start up at a light, the problem continued to get worse to the point my neck was hurting and the front seat of the car has become loose due to the constant force of the banging. Most recently on my way to the dealer, the car banged into gear and started to roll back (not like it does normally on a hill, this was after that should of happened) before it moved forward. I've also experience the car revving and not going into gear then in bangs into gear and surges forward at a higher speed then which you hit the gas. My car is currently being looked at. But from what I understand multiple complaints are posted for this same issue. Volkswagen needs to address the issue and recall the transmissions, as the symptoms get worse the car becomes a danger to drive.
