2 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2016 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/02/2016

2016 Jetta se1. 4 new for 18 year old son for college. Within a week car was in the shop with electrical issues for lighter and usb shorting out phone + radar while the car was driving. No issue found we drove 1000+miles to school, center console would blink on and off during the trip. New dealer also did not find any issues. Car then started shutting off while driving under 5 mph in traffic in nyc. When coming out of the driveway the rear view camera turned off, the car turned off. Vw was called they had him turn off the power by holding the pushbutton and break which restarted the car. New dealer still no issue found. The car continues to loose power all except auxiliary several incidents very unsafe. Was going up a hill and the car shifted into neutral and started rolling back, applied the handbreak the back wheels locked and the car stopped thankfully it was at night and no traffic. Two days later at jfk in the arrival line the car shut off while creeping forward. Took it to another new dealer they kept the car for one week, no issue found. Issues conitued now including slipping out of gear revving to 8000rpm, having to push far down for the break to engage. All the lights turn off while driving intermittently very unsafe. Took it to new dealer they found no issue I refused to pick it up and called vw corp they had them drive the car for 50 miles finally an error message. They replaced the transmission cylinoid. It is still having issues. The car overheated and the electrical stopped working. He smelled the coolant threw the vents he was about to pull over when the car reved to 8000 rpm and dropped out of gear so he pulled over and slowed down the lights and radio turned off. When he looked the exhaust manifold was glowing red. The car took an hr to cool down and electrical to come back. Back to the dealer again no issues again called vw corp for complaint.

The contact owns a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta. While driving at various speeds, the abs module malfunctioned and caused the vehicle to shift out of gear. The affected parts included the speedometer and the power steering. The speedometer shifted to zero mph without the assistance of the driver, and the steering wheel stiffened, which caused further difficulties for the contact. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 90,000.

4 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 06/05/2014

Dsg transmission dropped out of gear (like in neutral) several times over period of 1 week. Speeds ~20mph and 65 mph. Required drifting to safe area, stopping, and restarting car to get transmission to work. During failure the ep was illuminated, shifting between gears did nothing. Vw dealer reprogrammed tranny between failures. Have been using the shift mode for ~ 1week without issue. Saw several youtube videos of same problem - "false neutral". Numerous posts on tdiclub.

5 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

Transmission shifting problem. The transmission was not controlling at any nominal cruising speed, or when accelerating from a stop. Safety concern. Car was shifting when it didn't need to shift, I. E. Out of 6th at high speeds when the terrain and speed hadn't changed. It would shift out of gear the way you do in a manual transmission, but instead of shifting back in immediately, it would hesitate (rpms drop significantly) so that the car was essentially idling between gears. Then it would shift back in to a gear for a few seconds, and then shift again inappropriately with the same hesitation. When it would shift back in sometimes it would do the hard shift. The check engine light came on at times but not always. The car couldn't seem to figure out what gear it needed to be in, and it kept shifting in and out of the higher gears even though the driver hadn't changed the speed and the terrain was the same. It was much worse during the heat of the day. Whereas the problem is hardly perceptible at night. Still it seemed to be shifting between 6th down to 5th when it didn't need to. The problem seems to repeat over and over. The check engine light came on at some point, but was not on this morning.

6 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/29/2014

After backing up out of a drive way it would not shift out of first gear. After pulling over to side of the road I tried to shift it into reverse and nothing happened then tried to manually shift it into forward gears and the same thing only first gear would engage. The lights on the dash for which gear you are in was flashing and until it was shut of then restarted it started working again. I took it to the dealer and they said that it wasn't part of the drive train so I would have to fork over 2500 dollars to replace the computer that was in the transmission, the mechatronic that controls the valve body and clutches. They said they found an issue with it but didn't say what it was. I contacted vw and they said they would look into it,after two days they called and said that there weren't any warranty issues for the extended warranty that I had purchased. Now if its in the transmission wouldn't you think that it is a part of the drive train. The transmission wouldn't run with out it. I researched the problem on line and found that there are allot of problems with this transmission due to the mechatronic unit and it is a safety recall due to accidents created by it. I cannot trust this car now and will be trading it in for a Toyota. I have 500,000 miles on a echco that still runs like it was new and have never had to take it in for any problems. I would like to have this car fixed before getting rid of it because I would feel guilty if someone got hurt from the problem that is in the transmission.

7 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

In the morning I went to start my car and I shifted it into reverse and there was a loud noise. I then went to drive it and the transmission would not shift out of third gear.

8 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2002 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 04/01/2013

After sitting in traffic and driving at low speeds the car suddenly will slip out of gear. The engine races and I am stuck in first. I have to continue to drive at high rpms in 1st just to get home. It happened intermittently at first, but now it happens daily in traffic. I took it it volkswagon and they say nothing is wrong. Took it to a transmission shop and they say the transmission must be rebuilt for $6000. If I turn the car off and it cools down, I can sometimes get it to stay in gear. It happened several times while accelerating onto a freeway nearly causing an accident because I had to quickly pull off the roadway. Unreal that volkswagon is "unaware" of this issue and can't seem to repair it. Please recall!.

12 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/20/2009

My 2006 vw Jetta tdi has a dsg transmission. This transmission has slipped out of gear twice while traveling on the interstate at interstate speeds. This is an automatic type transmission and should not be slipping out of gear. This has not resulted in an accident but I was required to move across 3 lanes of traffic only under my current forward momentum. Luckily I was able to do so without incident.

13 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2002 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/16/2009

The contact owns a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta GLS tdi. The contact shifted into reverse and as he began to proceed, the transmission slipped out of gear. The vehicle was taken to a local repair facility where the mechanic advised that the reverse gear barring had failed. 14 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 05/28/2004

The manual transmission slips out of gear for no reason, with no warning at certain speeds and in certain gears. When you try and accelerate the engine revs but you don't go anywhere, possibly a very dangerous situation. I have had the car in twice for repairs and the problem still occurs, all that has changed is which gear. The dealer claimed these repairs were not under warranty even though the transmission is covered by a 10-year warranty.
