2 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 12/16/2019

I recently started a lease for a 2019 Jetta se. I started to notice a strange sound like scrapping and grinding as the car accelerated and particularly around the 20-30 mph mark. It is almost like a shallow howling and seemingly from the transmission. Please also note that I brought the car new about 25 miles on it and the noise started almost instantly. The vw dealership I went to gave no good resolution and informed me that the noise was 'normal' of this transmission. A noise coming from the transmission of a new car should never be taken as 'normal'. I have enjoyed driving the 2017 model the last 3 prior years and am very disappointed with this response and the way the vehicle is functioning. I hope vw does the right thing with either a proper fix or a recall. I am very concerned about the longevity of this issue and what it means safety wise now and down the line.

3 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 11/01/2019

The car makes a grinding noise when accelerating between 25-40 mph and it changes gear. It does it in the city or highway.

4 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 10/11/2019

2019 Jetta se purchase date 9/28/19, loud rattle/vibration/ shudder undercar drivers side, always there on light load acceleration 1600-1800 rpm. Car shudders under load 30-40 mph, acceleration diminished to limp approx 5 seconds, engine keeps running, no stall but feels as though it is ready to stall. Inquired with dealer service department, has never heard of these concerns. Car feels unsafe with potential to stall on acceleration, driveline has loud rumble and shudder, worsening daily, todays mileage 590. Conditions are when running and under light load and highway merging acceleration. Car does not merge well due to reduced power that feels proportional and due to under car shudder.

5 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 10/07/2019

The wipers screech when operating headlights are not aligned properly wrong gear is displayed on the instrument cluster sometimes slight metal grinding noise when the clutch is depressed (can only he heard from the outside). Engine has soft hissing noise and shakes a little when the running cold (can be only heard from outside) . The dealership has failed to acknowledge this. Car shakes when reversing with gas.

6 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 04/14/2019

Since day one car is shaking like a boat, when I drive it on a highway making it not stable. Brakes squeak and I see signs on the brake disk. I am with the original brakes. Car is shutting down when I park. When I switch again to drive, it is completely off from itself, key is inside and I have to turn the key off and then start the car again. Air condition is not working properly vw said they have better 8 zones air condition. I had oil lamp around 5000-6000 miles they said that the car should not have problems till 10 000 miles. I have problems accelerating, I am loosing power. I have grinding scraping noise from the transmission. Also transmission jumps when I drive, slow response. The engine is giving me lag when I am at traffic light, vibration and shaking. I make multiple calls to the dealership and Volkswagen group of America to tow and fix my car that I leased. I explain that the car is not safe. I have been involved in multiple accidents. I am not feeling safe operating this vehicle. It's been more than half year and not one problem is fixed.

7 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 03/23/2019

Vehicle exhibits a grinding noise while driving in low gears.

8 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 03/01/2019

I've had the 2019 Jetta for roughly 30 days now. I've noticed a strange grinding noise coming from the engine around 30 mph when accelerating under light load. As if a driver attempts to shift while the clutch is not engaged, the car produces a grinding noise (but this care is an automatic). So I decided to take it into vw to be looked at (young vw). They said and I quote "noise is normal operation of the drive system when accelerating. " that just doesn't seem right to me. . My husband has a reasonable amount of automotive knowledge and has made an assertions that the issues is related to the the transmission package; in his opinion any issue with the torque at low rpms. Vw refuses to even look at the issue, at this time. We worry is the car is defective and it damages the value of the vehicle and worse it's a safety issue as it causes accelerated heating and failure rate for the entire transmission system. My husband has researched the issue on google, document 32-18-01tt proves that vw ag knows this issue is a defect part, they claim that it's 'a normal characteristic of the vehicle' however, the document literally mentions the term 'scraping'. He has also tested the car, and if he put this car in manual mode and right before 4th gear hits 2000 rpm, switch to 5th gear and let it drop to around 1300-1400 rpm and accelerate lightly (especially on an incline); you'll hear a loud sound that scrapes all the way to 2000 rpm.

9 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 02/02/2019

Everytime I accelerate past 40km my vehicle makes a loud grinding sound somewhere in the engine. I can be on any terrain and in any driving mode and it still does it. I have been to 2 dealers and neither will accept responsibily to fix it. This has been an ongoing issue since then second I bought it in February 2019.

10 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 10/17/2018

Since I have owned this car the grinding noise has progressively gotten worse the transmission hesitates to shift now about 5k miles in. I called vw about it and they denied knowing anything about the noise. Vw came up with a software update for the transmission to fix this but it is apparently only for unsold cars. I find this ridiculous. The update is called 37l7, I know this information from a owner who got the dealership to update their car.

11 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/18/2014

Been to multiple dealerships claiming in fox valley IL rockford IL glenview IL that either my mechunit is bad/faulty or dual mass flywheel is bad/faulty. Was driving where either my car would shift very rough as if someone who is very inexperienced would let go of the clutch late and shift hard/rough into 1-2-3 with clicking noises. Car just recently shifted from 2 to neutral and scared the crapout of me. The car has extreme vibration and uncontrolled shift patterns. Was turning onto my street and car went from 3-2 to neutral while my car was still in drive and went into a snow bank on side of road. Would just like to have Volkswagen contact me to either replace or fix this problem. This is very dangerous owners of a 2006 vw tdi or any automatic with dsg mechunit beware and please be careful.

12 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/25/2012

Vehicle has vibration over 50 mph. It is felt through out car. After several attempts to diagnose, dealer states that its characteristic. I have tested several other vehicles of the same lineage and disagree. It is either dual mass flywheel or outer axle failure, however dealer states unless vw authorizes, they will not repair. Vehicle is within warranty.

13 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/02/2012

Approximately a year ago, my engine began to give a clear sense of the car shuddering or rocking back and forth. While sometimes the feeling would occur even when stopped at a light, the vast majority of the time this occurred while I was driving at consistent low speeds. In almost all cases, I was attempting to maintain a consistent speed around either 13pmh or 30 mph. Eventually, I found the rocking motion very easy to reproduce. I'd set the car to 30 mph via cruise control and drive down a straight road with very slight upward and downward slopes. While it happens even on flat ground, I found that a slight decline is most likely to reproduce the feeling. My best guess is that there's something about the way the fuel supply system/transmission is trying to determine whether or not diesel needs to be supplied to the engine. The fuel supply system seems to almost cut out because giving diesel would produce a speed too high, and then it comes back on suddenly, because giving it no diesel would cause the car to slow too much. While sometimes this is simply a nuisance, I have had on many occasions felt that it was a genuine safety hazard since I couldn't predict how the engine would react. This in combination with overly strong engine break when letting off of the accelerator and delayed acceleration when stepping on the peddle that can cause inconsistencies and safety hazards when maneuvering in stop and go traffic on the highway. I've mentioned this problem every single time I've taken my car in for it's regularly scheduled maintenance. The vehicle has a diesel dsg engine, and as I've been told by service technicians and representatives, some of the things like strong engine breaking are associated with this type of engine. However, the car's rocking motion certainly goes beyond anything that could realistically be considered normal and safe.

14 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 10/29/2009

The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. The vehicle hesitates and shudders when it is cold. Also when cold, the vehicle will not accelerate over 35 mph. The vehicle will down-shift into neutral when attempting to accelerate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer at least four times. At the last inspection, the computer was reprogrammed. After the repair the transmission did not operate properly. A letter was sent to the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 1,600.

15 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2002 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 02/25/2009

I bought my 2002 Jetta 1. 8t with an automatic transmission in August of 2006. The day I picked it up, the transmission blew while I was driving. After about 2 months, I finally got it back but the car was still shifting hard and had to bring it back. The car dies randomly, I have had to replace the entire a/c unit as well as numerous other repairs. This morning the car started shaking violently when stopped and when accelerating up to 60 mph. I have noticed there are over 35 other complaints regarding the transmissions on Jetta and from what I have learned informally online, I am not the only one experiencing these problems. Apparently the 2002's were built in mexico and have had a large amount of problems. I am only a college student and would appreciate help resolving the issue of owning a faulty car. I cannot afford to keep up a car that was not made properly in the first place. Thank you!.

16 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2002 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/16/2007

I purchased a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta for my daughter. In August of 2006 the car was taken to a vw dealership for transmission service. In may of 2007 the transmission light came on and the car kept losing power when driving. When put in gear the car would shake and shut down. I had it towed to the vw dealership for repair. They replaced a seal, temp sender and sender for a total of 427. 62. My daughter picked up the car and when driving home from the dealership after they repaired it the car shuttered, then slammed down into a lower gear almost causing her to lose control of the vehicle. I called the dealer and they approved having it towed back to their facility for repair. They then checked the car again and stated that the transmission failed and needed to be replaced for a cost of $3800. 00. This car has 57,000 miles on it and when originally taken to the dealership for this issue it was 4 days out of warranty. Note: when the car initially broke down it was still in warranty but I was out of town for work and could not set up having it towed in until I returned home. The dealership was called regarding this issue prior to the warranty expiration. I called the dealership and vw corporate headquarters. They stated there was nothing they could do to assist in this repair. The vw dealership stated that they did not see a problem with the transmission when they first completed repairs but she did not even get 10 miles from the dealership before the car slammed down into a low gear.

17 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2000 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/02/2004

Consumer stated that while driving on the highway, the vehicle began to vibrate. He had to pull to the side of the road and had the vehicle towed. The consumer was told by the mechanic that the transmission mounts broke and caused the engine to drop down. Consumer stated that the vehicle was fairly new and had only 42,182 miles on it, and this should not have happened.
