The cam follower on 2006-2008 Passats with the 2. 0t fsi bpy engine are all susceptible to an event where the cam follower gets a hole in it and the high pressure fuel pump can drill through the intake camshaft. Volkswagen gave a warranty extension to 2006 and 2007 Passats but will not take care of the 2008s! Volkswagen claims new parts were used but I had the repair done and the part number on my fuel pump was different than the new one! it is a $2000 problem and this need to have action taken! the symptoms can cause terrible accidents! they include extremely poor acceleration, jolts, hesitations, rough starts, and rough idles. Volkswagen says that this is VIN specific and 2008s do not apply but numerous people with Passats, gti's, and jetta's with this engine have had this problem! it is dangerous. I have nearly gotten in many accidents and it is expensive to repair it. They have recognized it as a problem as they have released numerous technical service bulletins for this specific model year concerning these parts! there needs to be formal action taken as this is not just a few cars that this has happened to, but many!.

Fuel pump failed while I was driving on the freeway. It was highly dangerous and my car had to be towed. I go to the dealer and find out that there was a fuel pump for certain 2003 vw Passats but my VIN number for my car did not fall under the category for the recall and therefore vw had refused to reimburse me for fixing the fuel pump. My dealer had told me that their were similar customer complaints for all vw 2003 but unfortunately my car didn't fall under the right VIN.
I began to have problems with the engine light. Every time I had it checked, it coded something different (po455, po171, po441) with these results: fuel cap light came on, high pressure fuel pump, evaporative emission control system , and lean bank 02 censor before the catalytic converter. It became hard to crank, and once shook when it did crank. The steering wheel module and comfort control module were replaced in 2008 under warranty after I took Volkswagen to small claims court. I took the car to a dealership in atlanta (there isn't one close to where I live) and they completed the following repairs: code po444, the evaporative emission system purge control valve circuit; code po193, fuel measuring system 2 abnk 1; and p2187 system too lean at idle. Total= $884. 84 ($619. 95 labor; $204. 31 parts; $43. 25 waste disposal charge; and $17. 33 tax). At no charge, they checked the passenger headlight which I had to replace @ twice a year and inspected high pressure pump, gff guided functions and a courtesy visual service inspection.

The contact owns a 2008 Volkswagen Passat. The contact applied pressure to the accelerator pedal however, the vehicle would not respond. She was able to manually shift the gear in order to get the vehicle off the main roadway. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle with a faulty high pressure fuel pump and advised having it replaced. The manufacturer was not notified. No repairs were performed. The dealer had been waiting for the part needed for repairs for approximately one month. The current and failure mileages were 62,000.
Check engine light comes on intermittantly starting in March 2010 with a low fuel pressure fault. Car runs fine most of the time, but sputters when the fault occurs and fuel economy suffers. After receiving this fault multiple times, repair shop suggests we try a new fuel filter to see if that clears it, but it will likely need a new fuel pump. New fuel filter helps for 3 weeks, but fault starts occurring again. I took the car to another shop for a second opinon and they agreed that I needed to replace the fuel pump and fuel pump sensor, which I had done in Nov 2010 after the fuel gauge stops reporting accurate fuel levels. This clears both issues until February 2011, when low fuel pressure fault starts firing again intermittantly every 2-3 weeks as it had before and fuel gauge is not reporting accurate fuel levels again. Now vw states the fuel pump is not the problem (a $1k repair!) and is recommending a new high pressure fuel pump and cam shaft - a $2,300 repair! to add insult to injury my car now smells like fuel after driving it. Vw refuses to provide any sort of waranty for any of this work, including the first two repairs that didn't fix the problem. I cannot afford to make these repairs at this time and I am considering asking vw credit to take back the car.
I was driving my vw Passat 1. 8l turbo stationwagon at a speed of 40 miles per hour and the car suddenly stalled without any warning. My four month old baby was in the back in his carseat and had I been in a different setting we both could have been injured or killed. This was the first time it had occurred and once I took it to the mechanic the car started and drove fine and they could not duplicate the problem. They informed me that it was likely a parts recall issue: recall: 07v375000: fuel pump replacement. I contacted vw America, inc. And was informed that while in fact there was such a recall for 2003 Passats, my VIN number was not covered in the recall and thus there was nothing they could/would do to help me despite the fact that the problem appears to be the very one indicated in the recall notice. This is very frustrating and scary.
Driving along came up to a stop sign and car sputtered then dies and could not be restarted towed to dealer. Advised of bad fuel pump. $800. 00 for repair. Same as several other 2004 complaints and checking to see if this should be tied to the 2003 recall.

A change in the electrical motor components in the fuel pump led to an inoperative fuel pump and, ultimately, stoppage of fuel supply to the engine causing it to stall while on the highway.
The contact owns a 2004 Volkswagen Passat. While driving approximately 55 mph the vehicle stalled. The vehicle would not restart and it was towed to an independent mechanic where he was informed that the fuel pump failed and was repaired. The failure and current mileages were 60,000.
Driving my 2005 vw Passat wagon with 50k miles. Engine died suddenly while driving and was able to pull to the side of the road. No warning lights of any kind appeared on the dashboard. Car would not restart and was towed to the Volkswagen dealership. Problem was stated as failure of the fuel pump and replacement would run $550. 00. This item was recalled on previous model years but not on the 2005 1. 8t engines. I feel that this item should not fail on a low mileage engine. Dealer notated that numerous other vehicles have been suffering from failing fuel pumps as the summer heat sets in.

1. Started hearing "ticking" noise from engine 2. "ticking" became louder, slow performance 3. Replaced intake cam / lifters, h. P. Fuel pump, valve cover gasket and sealant, vacuum pipe to leak detection pipe (all 2 times each).
While I was driving home from work on the highway my 2005 Passat (1. 8t) suddenly shut off. Fortunately, I was able to move quickly to the break down lane to get out of the way of the cars behind me. The Passat was towed to the dealer where they discover the fuel pump had failed. So then I paid the dealer replaced the fuel pump, since there are no recalls for the 2005 model (only 2003).
While driving home last night, my 2002 vw Passat began to lose power and cut off. I was able to let it coast to the side of the road but in the lane of an exit ramp for traffic exiting the highway. I engaged my flashers and called 911 and a tow truck. I tried starting the car again and it would not crank. Once the police came, he pushed my car into safety and awaited the tow truck. My car was towed to the vw dealer. This morning, I received a call from the dealer who said the fuel flow to the engine was interrupted and caused by a inoperative fuel pump. My complaint is when I checked online for recalls, I found a recall that was posted in sept 2002 for the same issue I am having with my car. My car was purchased in Feb 2002 and the recall is for 2003 models. I called vw of America and explained the issue with them and the only offer they gave me was $1000 towards a new vw. Unbelievable! because the recall was for 2003 models, they could not assist me because my vehicle is a 2002. Even though I am having the same issues with my vehicle as the 2003 recall. The dealer quoted $589 for the repair. This stall could have been worse than it was due to the inclement weather, night time and the exit ramp. This should be included in a safety recall because there is no warning before the vehicle cuts off which causes a potential for a crash, which is what I was faced with last night. I am not asking to be singled out, but to look into this 6-month gap of the recall in sept 2002 and the purchase date of my vehicle Feb 2002. I was also told at vw of America that they could only assist me with my issue if my VIN number matched the recalls. So my question, what if the stall of my vehicle caused an accident and serious injuries or fatalities were involved, would vw look into the 2002 recall then or just tell the families, sorry, you didn't have a 2003.

Fuel pump module burned out unexpectedly causing engine to cease operating. Check engine light came on approximately 5 min. Before failure. Once engine stopped, vehicle became difficult to steer to side of road, had to coast to safe shoulder.
I was driving down the road and the car started chugging and died. The dealership told me the fuel pump failed and a new pump and filter were replaced. There has been a recall on the fuel pump for the 2003 vw Passat but the dealership won't recognize it for the 2005.
I was driving on hwy 101 in san luis obispo county California when my call stalled in the fast lane. My fuel pump went out. I have a 2004 vw Passat. The 2003 Passat's fuel pumps were recalled Jan 2006 and August 2007. After my car was made which makes me wonder why my cars fuel pump wasn't recalled since it was made after recall date.
Fuel pump failure on 2003 vw Passat. Driving on interstate and lost power and was lucky to be able to coast to the side of the road. Vw has a recall on this part but they claim my vehicle (NHTSA 06v01700 and 07v375000) is not in the VIN range covered. I feel my fuel pump should have been covered in the recall as it is a defective unit and not safe.
2008 vw Passat. Fuel pump had to be replaced at 29k miles, after frequent stalls while driving at low speed, difficulties cranking and frequent display of fuel cap light.
2007 Volkswagen Passat. Engine started knocking so I had it towed to the dealer. It ended up needing a new engine because the high pressure fuel pump plunger failed and sent metal into the engine destroying it. Vw refuses to pay for it.

The contact owns a 2003 Volkswagen Passat. The contact stated that the fuel pump failed in his vehicle. The vehicle stuttered while driving 60 mph, stalled, and then completely lost power. The vehicle restarted for a few seconds, but then lost power again when he attempted to accelerate. The vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop and the contact was informed of NHTSA campaign id number 07v375000 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump). Two different dealers stated that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The manufacturer agreed with the dealers. The current mileage was 76,455 and failure mileage was approximately 76,440.
The contact owns a 2003 Volkswagen Passat. While driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle suddenly shut off. The vehicle was towed to an auto repair shop and the mechanic stated that the fuel pump failed. He called the local dealer to inquire about relevant recalls and was informed that there were none. Through research, the contact found NHTSA campaign id number 07v375000 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump), but was informed that his VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer stated that they could not offer any assistance; therefore, the contact would have to pay for the repairs. The VIN was unknown. 2003 volkwagen Passat wagon w8 (4motion/all-wheel drive) fuel tank leak at/or near rollover valve at fuel tank. Fuel tank has no apparent damage or abrasions and fuel tank heat shield is original undamaged condition, vehicle has no damage or crash history. Vehicle is equipped with w-8 4. 0 l w/ automatic transmission and has 62,215 miles. After refill of fuel ,strong odor of gasoline and/or vapor. 2003 Volkswagen Passat fire the consumer stated while driving a light blinked on the dashboard. According to the owner's manual, it was a light for the catalytic converter. When the consumer arrived to the dealer, the light went out, and they could not find a problem. The light returned shortly thereafter and stayed on. The dealer repaired the light. The ball joints failed, but they were not covered under warranty. Soon, the light illuminated on the dashboard again, that was supposed to have been fixed by the dealer earlier in the year. The consumer continued driving, when suddenly another motorist informed her the vehicle was on fire. The fire department stated the fire was caused by the catalytic converter. The consumer's insurance agent contacted her and advised her Volkswagen was covering all the cost related to the incident, because the fire was a result of a recall that had not been taken care of by the authorized dealer from where the vehicle was purchased.
I have had the 2003 Passat glx for less than 2 weeks, I have only put 307 miles on it. Today while on the interstate, the car quit pulling. It was not getting any gas. Then it died completely and would not start. It turns over but won't start. Was on the side of the interstate for nearly an hour waiting for a tow truck. Was told that it is the fuel pump.
Our 2004 Volkswagen Passat fuel pump failed at around 52,000 miles which caused our car to stop dead in the road. Luckily it wasn't on a high traffic road. Since there was a fuel pump recall in 2003 for Passats, how do I know that one of those fuel pumps did not end up in our car? when we had the dealership replace the fuel pump, the first one they put in was defective. I asked the dealership for the original part , which I have. The part number is 8e0 906 087e . Please advise. Thank you.
Identical to 07v375000, but 2004 not 2003 model year 1. None 2. First time. 3. Towed car to dealer, identified broken fuel pump. 3a. Replacing fuel pump.
While stopped at light, car stalled and would not start. Fuel pump failed. Dealer replaced fuel pump to fix problem. Very similar to 07v375000 but for 2004 model Passat.
Car stalled several times and eventually would not start. Had it towed to nearest auto repair shop, cost $45. After diagnostic testing they stated there was nothing wrong with it and it started right up, costing another $110 for this information. A few days later car stalled and would not start. Towed once again to vw dealership, cost $155. They discovered it was the fuel pump and replaced it free of charge and also check all other recalls. We received the recall letter the day after the no start. I am asking to be reimbursed for both tows and the diagnostic testing as all cost incurred were due to this recall.
Fuel pump failure while driving on the freeway the car quite running. 1. 8 liter turbo in o3 vw Passat. Dealer calls and tells us our VIN number is not part of the recall. To call vw of north America and they should cover it. I talk to a women tell her the same thing as above and she ask me to hold while she submits the claim. She comes back on the line after 45 seconds or so and says that they won't cover it. The VIN number is not part of the recall. I ask to speak to a supervisor. I am told there is no one else I can speak to and this is the finally decision of vw of north America. This is not the first failure for this car. Temperature sensor replaced, brake module replaced twice, the heater core replace, the trip tronic shift replaced, instrument panel replaced, the engine flushed for sludge. Cv boots replaced. They're cracked again after 3 months.
The contact owns a 2003 Volkswagen Passat. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle vibrated and shut off without warning. In addition, the accelerator pedal extended to the floorboard when it was depressed. As of November 26, 2007, the dealer had not inspected or repaired the vehicle. There is a recall for the fuel system, gasoline: delivery: fuel pump (NHTSA campaign id number 07v375000). The current and failure mileages were 81,716.
