I wanted to replace the fuel cap for my 2010 vw Passat. I ordered part number 3c0201550n which belongs to my vehicle. The fuel cap does not fit. I looked at the cap that is installed on the vehicle and got part number 1j0-201-553 off the fuel cap that is on the car. I contacted a vw dealership parts department and they told me that this part 1j0-201-553 is for a vw golf or a vw jetta and is for a diesel engine car. I do not have a diesel engine I have a gasoline engine. I called vw customer service about this problem because I am worried that this could be a safety issue and they didn't understand what I was telling them. I am worried that the fuel tank and or the pipe that leads to the fuel tank is not properly installed or the incorrect one for the vehicle and Volkswagen does not seem to be worried about the safety of me or others that might have the same issue.

Similar to other reports, there is apparently a common defect with older vw Passats (mine is a 2000) fuel lines leaking gas when pressurized by the fuel pump. The gas leak occurs in the rubber fuel line near the gas tank and filter. The leak was visible in front of the rear wheel on the passenger side. Mechanics, including the dealer have trouble locating the leak since it appears to be intermittent and only when the car is first started for a minute or so. The leak is significant and typically involves about a cup of gas. It is a fire hazard that should be part of a recall, but apparently is not since the dealer charged me for the diagnosis and repair.
On approx. June 20, 2008 I received a recall notice from vw that there was a safety issue with heat shields and fuel system of my 2003 Passat ( recall notice- 26e5/r5 and 66c8/p9. I made an immediate appointment with my dealership (donaldson"s vw in sayville, NY and got an appointment for June 27. Because I was very concerned with the recall and the fact that the notice advised of a possibility of fire existed, I took my vehicle right down there. I was then advised by the service representative that they could not perform the necessary repairs because they were back ordered on the parts. I was also alarmed when I was told that they had no idea when they could do the repair or when the parts would come in. I am writing this in the event that my vw Passat should malfunction because of a defect that could be expeditiously repaired by the dealer.
My 2007 vw Passat wagon has 3 times on trips longer than 4 hours in 0 degree weather started chugging and shaking on the highway. Each time has been worse and lasted longer. The first time a call to a vw dealer said it was the gas cap and it would be ok. The second time a Subaru mechanic diagnosed misfiring and a bad coil so I took it to a vw dealer who said there was nothing they could find wrong to fix. The third time I was nearly stranded on a remote highway. I eventually got home to my private mechanic who agreed it was misfiring and a bad coil and will fix it.

The contact owns a 2003 Volkswagen Passat. While parked in the garage, the contact smelled a strong gaseous odor coming from the vehicle. She examined the vehicle and adjusted the fuel cap. The smell still lingered. The contact removed the vehicle from the garage and parked it on the street. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer and they stated that the fuel tank valve failed and the fuel tank needed to be replaced. No repairs have been made. The current mileage was 96,703 and failure mileage was 96,670. *updated 12/27/07 the consumer stated the vehicle was paid in full by the manufacturer on October 8, 2007. Updated 12/12/07.
: the contact stated while parked, the fuel tank filler neck was observed to be leaking under the back seat. Also, a strong odor of gasoline was coming from the backseat. It was also observed that the vehicle consumed a great deal of gas. Secondly, there was a slash in the rear tire on the passenger side due to debris and abrasion with the fuel tank. There were no warning signals prior to the incident. The vehicle was taken to a service dealer, who determined that there was a fuel leak on the tank top nipple. The fuel tank was replaced and the tire was realigned. The manufacturer was notified and refused to acknowledge that the VIN # was not part of the NHTSA recall #02v026000. Reimbursement was also denied.

: the contact stated while driving 5 mph, the vehicle made a clanging noise while pulling into a garage. When the brake was depressed, the pedal went all the way to the floor, and did not engage completely. There was no indication of a problem prior to the incident. A private repair shop was consulted, and determined the rear brakes needed to be replaced. The brake pads were replaced, the tires were rotated, and the oil was changed. During the subsequent test drive, the vehicle stalled completely while traveling 25 mph. A service dealer was consulted by the private repair shop, and determined that the fuel pump had failed. The fuel pump was replaced. There was a NHTSA recall # 06v017000 which pertained to the fuel pump. The vehicle was not included in the recall due to the VIN.

Had a rear tire blow ut a while back and now my car is experiencing a significant size gas leak( in the rear left passenger side of car), which is the summary and consequence of the vw Passat recall issued Jan 23, 2002. I, however, just received the recall notice 2 weeks ago. I did report my tire blow out with NHTSA because I was concerned I had a defective tire. It appears the remedy for this recall is too late for me, I already have to deal with the consequence of vw's defect. I only hope vw rectifies this problem ASAP.
While driving, the rear passenger side tire failed and damaged the fuel filler neck causing a fuel leak. Consumer believes this failure is very similar to the failures described in odi-influenced recall 02v026000 for 2000 model year vehicles. A fire could have resulted if an ignition source were present.
Consumer noticed it was difficult to pump fuel, the dealer found the hose leading down to the tank had collapsed and the whole tank and hose system was replaced, also the gas tank door was re-aligned because it wouldn't close.
Replaced collasped filler neck.
During the repair of the rear cup holder the dealer disconnected the wire for the fuel tank filler lid causing the lid not to open. Nlm.
The dealership was unable to perform the recall for the filler neck recall 02 v 026 000 within a reasonable time frame. They were making appointments a month to 6 weeks in advance.
The consumer was concerned about a recall which was found on the same type of vehicle he owns concerning the fuel system filler neck. Ph.
