Power Steering Light On Problems of Volkswagen Passat

Steering wheel had a slight tug and a noise. Lost all functions on steering wheel. Was on a country rd. Took it to a vw mechanic in quincy PA on sept 4 2020. They said the clock spring broke and there was a recall on it. I looked it up and recall number 15v483000 came up. It was already fixed evidently. I guess I should not have it done now it is costing 800 dollars.

While driving the abs light came on (constant speed, highway, dry conditions), disabling cruise control. The airbag light then came on. Then the tire sensor light and finally the steering wheel light and exclamation point icon next to the steering wheel light.

I was parked on flat ground while starting my car this morning and noticed the air bag light on the dash board stayed light. Then I noticed the stereo control on the steering wheel was not light and did not work. At work I did some research and found that it could be the clock spring. When I got home from work I tested my horn to find that my horn does not work. My vehicle has 47773 miles and I bought it new. I'm almost positive it is the clock spring after all the research I have done. I feel vw should extend the recall past 2014 because it seems obvious that the issue continued into 2015 models.

During the normal operation of the vehicle, without notice the steering wheel light comes on and disables the ability to steer the vehicle normally. We have had trouble for the past week with our car not cranking in the afternoon. We figured it was the alternator causing the battery to die. We replaced the alternator. So the car did great for only a few minutes, then when backing out of the driveway, the steering column light came on, the steering wheel locked up, and the car continued to run. If we had been going down the road like I have read hundreds of other complaints for this, we could have been killed. Why has this not been recalled as many complaints have been made? the steering column light comes on going down the road and everything locks up for someone to die. Will Volkswagen then decide its time to recall it? now the key will not come out of the ignition and it will not crank at all.

While the car was in motion, the power steering light came on and the steering was disabled. Pulled the car over, turned off and restarted. Problem went away for a day or two. Same thing happened again and resolved same way by me. Happened again - took it to the dealer and was informed I needed to replace the power steering rack. I asked the dealer if this was a common issue and the response was "extremely rare". I took to authorized vw repair centers (non-dealer). Could not quote an exact price for the "repair" as none of them have ever seen a repair like this needed on a vw. Did some research and found vw recall no. 48j1/p3 which was issued for the 2009 Passat but apparently not for my VIN? the hazards as experienced in this publication are what we are experiencing. Can you help me understand how that is possible? vw is refusing to contribute or cover any cost of the repair and it is a high safety concern for my family.

Went to work on a sub zero temps day. Car was warming up. Went to pull away she the steering warning light came on with a 3 chim tone warning and locked up the steering columm. Had car towed to an otherized dealship where they scanned vehicle and found four codes for steering rack but was unable to detect any warning lights on dash board.
