I recently faced an issue with my Volkswagen Passat 2015 with the suspensions making clanking noise. I had it checked with the dealership and the issue turned out to be broken coil springs on the rear left side. I have own this car for three and a half years, but only have 16k miles on it. I rarely drive in snow as I work from home. A little exposure to snow have caused the coil springs to wear out. I have heard of recalls from Nissan and Honda in the past regarding a similar issue with coil springs. I'm sure other Volkswagen owners are facing the same thing as I heard the service agent whispering that this happens with most of the Volkswagen cars and he's surprised there hasn't been a recall for it yet. As I'm merely over the bumper warranty, I had to pay $800 out of pocket to replace the springs. I wish Volkswagen made more reliable cars.

Tl the contact owns a 2017 Volkswagen Passat. While driving 70 mph, the contact heard an abnormal banging sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. There was no warning indicator illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle started to spin out of control and crashed into a retaining wall. The vehicle spun back out into oncoming traffic. There were no injuries. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to rick case Volkswagen (located at 3520 weston rd, weston, FL 33331, (954) 945-9367) where it was diagnosed that the suspension spring detached and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and did not assist. The approximate failure mileage was 53,000.

I bought a 2015 Passat wolfsburg edition in February of 2015. Within the first 200 miles vehicle was shimmying when brakes were applied. Dealer refused to replace the brakes under the warranty saying its wear and tear. I called vwa they advised dealer and the rotors were replaced. Not even two weeks after brakes start squealing. I return to dealership and get told its nothing. Brakes continued to squeal until I had them replaced somewhere else at 26350 miles. However while brakes were squealing and even after being replaced. . Vehicle bas developed a chirp on both hubs when vehicle is turned and or accelerated from a stand still. Vehicle has 27000 miles on it. There's no reason it should be having these issues. I bought the vehicle at valley auto world in fayetteville nc. Also my front suspension is making noise when hitting certain bumps. Steering still has shimmy when driving. I need my repaired and 100% safety guaranteed or I will seek federal legal assistance.
When driving my new 06 Passat 2. 0t at 35 mph+, w/ passengers (avg. Weights - approx 140 ea. ) the car bottoms out, rubbing the road surface, over even moderate bumps & 'swooping' humps in the road. It occurs w/ more severity when encountering bumps during cornering. It started without warning, and was 'moderate' at first, then began to get worse as time went on. I can also hear a 'clicking' sound when the driver window is down, & going over even small, slow speed bumps (<5mph) after several of incidences I took it the local vw dealer in vancouver, wa,. After 3+ visits, no solution. They told me it was fine, they couldn't reproduce either the clicking or bottoming out. I contacted vw USA & filed a complaint with that dick hannah dealership. I was quickly contacted by the service manager who offered to take a ride w/ me, during which we easily reproduced both concerns, at slow speeds, within minutes of leaving there lot - she was shocked, & said she'd look into it - which she did. The solution? "the factory installed front mud flaps were 'too long' & draggied when encountering bumps" ! needless to say, & even w/o being a 'mechanic', this answer was obviously not the reason for a suspension that 'clicks' loudly over bumps & bottoms out during normal driving. I accepted this answer w/ the idea I'd do some additional research. The car continues to bottom out, is getting worse & ironically only happens on the drivers side - regardless of whether I am driving (at 180lbs) or my fiance' is driving (at 115lbs) now even w/o passengers! there's definitely an issue w/ at least the front strut unit - which would also explain the clicking coming from that unit. Although I have brought it back to the service manager, they stand by there diagnosis - that nothing is wrong with the car. I'm very disappointed in both there service and level of expertise/knowledge - every suspension mechanic I have spoken with says that it sounds like a faulty or leaking strut unit - an easy fix.

: the contact stated that while driving at low speeds of 0-5mph the engine jumps to rpm's of 900 to 1000 rpm's causing the vehicle to lunge forward. This occurs more often when the vehicle has been running for a while and the engine is hot. The rpm's go down only when the engine is placed in neutral and the motor is revved up, or when the vehicle shifts into second gear. The vehicle idles roughly and hesitates. While stopped at a light or stop sign, there is lag between when the accelerator is depressed and the when the engine kicks into gear. When this occurs, the vehicle lunges forward. The dealership cannot duplicate the problem. While parked, at low speeds, or turning the vehicle right or left, there is a grinding sound coming from the right suspension area. The dealership replaced the right front passenger strut bearing which seemed to help for a while, but now the grinding sound is back. The grinding sound is now coming from the left suspension area.
The front end is "creaky. " there is considerable noise, usually when turning. I suspect that the bushings in the multi-link front suspension are worn. I received an estimate from the dealer on 7/18/2003 of $1020 to fix it. I chose not to fix it at that time. Over the past year I have heard numerous stories of Passat and Audi a4s that have this same problem so I want to add another complaint to the file.

Front suspension made very annoying creaking sound.
Quadra-link suspension produces metalic rubbing noise with vehicle motion. Dealer has diagnosed problem as quadra-link suspension failure based on inspection and previous experience. Dealer has indicated that left side is also likely to fail and that any repair does not guarantee a recurent future failure. Vw corporation has refused financial assistance in repairing problem. Nhtsa lists numerous customer complaints for this same problem. Customers position is that a part as basic as this should never fail and this represents a faulty original design.
Heard suspension type noise when exiting vehicle and pushing on front end. Dealer only charged me 50% on parts since it shouldn't have failed so soon.
Suspension clunking noise - taken to dealer 5+ times, no resolution.
Suspension now makes loud noises, indicating imminent failure.
Vechicle was at dealer for 30 days on final attempt to repair the suspension noise. Noise was duplicated by shop foreman, service advisor and tech. Comment from them was. . . . . . . We hear it but we don't know how to fix it. Come back when it gets worse. Only on threat of a buy back did they finally resolve the problem.
While driving, there is a looseness in the front end, consumer could hear knocking noise like metal banging against something, took to a mechanic and they replaced struts on the left side bottom of front end. Then 2 weeks later mechanic changed right side bottom, 3 weeks later the top struts were loose. Consumer feels very unsafe. Consumer had to replace the entire front suspension system.
Clunking noise from front suspension. Occurs when accelerating and braking. Also general looseness in steering that was not there when car was new. Car hard to steer straight and very susceptible to cross winds and turbulence. Dealership continues to claim that they cannot find anything wrong.
