3 Car Stall problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 02/08/2020

Vehicle has been moving and will suddenly shut down while driving. All power steering, braking and electrical systems go out. I have to try to manually swerve off the road and put the car in park. Take the key out of the ignition and restart. I understand that this problem had been fixed in 2015 under a recall with the win module and vw indicates that since it's been fixed they only offer a 12 month warranty. For me to get a new win module, the dealership said it would be $2,000 and a long estimated time without the car. This car is blue booked as only worth $3,500. 00. This is again a faulty piece that should be covered by the recall. The car only has 75k miles. There's no reason to have a car with 75k miles and need two win modules so far. I want this to be in writing that when I am driving on I-95 and my car suddenly stalls and my 2 1/2 year old and 4 1/2 year old and myself end up in a casket, it's because of this faulty product which they will not cover again on the recall.

4 Car Stall problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 10/26/2019

We purchased this vehicle used in August 2018. The first long distance trip the transmission quit working on PA I-76. My family could have been killed as the van shifted eradically, stalled while in motion, and stopped shifting all together. We took the vehicle back to where we purchased it. They sent it to the transmission place that originally did the transmission work. They replaced a defective part. Ever since the repair the van shifts hard and at odd times. Three weeks ago it began leaking transmission fluid and began to shift erratically again. No indicator lights illuminated. We had it towed to the transmission shop again they said it was our breaks, we had it towed to our mechanic, it's not the breaks. It is again at the transmission shop. This has cost us time, money and our safety. What will it take for vw to issue a recall on this van- who has to die for anything to be resolved.

12 Car Stall problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 12/11/2017

Since buying our 2009 Routan in the fall of 2016 we have sunk thousands into it trying to get it fixed because of the issues we have had shortly after buying it (ours did not come with a warranty from the vw dealer). At least twice a week, and sometimes more, it stalls while we are driving. . . Usually at low speeds like when we are slowing down to make a turn or slowing down for a stoplight. Usually, all of the dashboard lights and controls will blink and ding repeatedly before stalling. It also stalls when sitting still. It will blink all of the lights, the controls will go crazy and the windshield wipers will go back and forth one time as it stalls. On Dec 11 it stalled on a major road in charlotte, nc and I lost all power so I could not even put on my flashers. I have an autistic child who was freaking out because I was trying to get all of the kids to be quiet so I could call my husband as we were sitting in the middle of a busy road. We were in a middle lane and the windows were up so I had to open my door quickly and wave for people to go around us. I kept watching my rear view mirror and praying we wouldn't get hit as cars zipped around us honking. The key was stuck in the ignition since there was no power. My husband was headed towards us and I waved people around us for about 5 minutes while jingling the key and trying everything to get something to work. The power finally came back and the key came out and I was able to restart and get home but my kids are afraid to go anywhere in that van again. We have replaced the battery, the control module (one of the most expensive things we tried), the erg valve, the alternator, and some other parts our mechanic wanted to try. Super eagle auto care has been super helpful in trying to fix it but to no avail. We have learned since buying this vehicle that this is a common problem for vw Routan.

14 Car Stall problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 09/01/2017

Vehicle won't start. This is not the first time and I have filled previous incident reports. It left me stranded again today after I picked up medicine for a child at home recovering from surgery. This vehicle is unreliable and therefore the situation is unacceptable. Our mechanic has run diagnostics and can find nothing wrong. We took a leap of faith and had a new starter installed, this was not the problem. I would buy another car, but right now this is not an option for us. We need help!.

15 Car Stall problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 06/23/2017

Engine will not start. Happens on occasion but happened enough that I had two starters installed as well as a battery. What else could it be? can turn the key and nothing happens. I can possibly sit there and turn the ignition 10+ times and still nothing. Thought it could be a bad spot in the new starter?? cleaned battery posts often and now have treated the connections. Would like not to receive another call from lovely wife that the van would not start. Has to be something with a circuit staying open or something. Safety issue due to not knowing if your car is going to start when you arrive to a destination. Issue has been going on for 2+ years and van has 100k miles last instance of issue: 23 June 2017.

While driving on street or highway or stopped. Usually around 20-40mph car stalls. Brakes lock up/steering wheel locks up/no control of car at all. All lights indicate car is on, one bell goes off prior and anti-skid light comes on. By then panic cannot control car! put car in park after stopped and it starts right up.

18 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 08/28/2016

I am writing to address a safety issue I have with my vehicle, a 2010 Volkswagen Routan. My husband and I purchased this car last year and shortly after its purchase started to experience electrical issues with the vehicle. These issues included warning lights on the dash illuminating, power failures of the dash board gauges (specifically the speed gauge) and radio, and most alarmingly the car would completely stall and lose power. This issue of losing power to the entire car has happened both while the car is in motion and while it has been stopped at traffic lights, as well as at high and low speeds. We took the car to a local vw dealership hoping they might be able to diagnose the issue and fix it. After nearly 3 weeks of having different parts replaced, being told the issue was solved it was not. When driving the vehicle with only the key in the ignition it performs better, although still dies occasionally, but with anything on the keyring it will die almost instantly. It wasn¿t until after removing our car from this dealership that we learned about a recall on the vw Routans that seemed very similar to the issues we were experiencing. Upon research we discovered that our vehicle was produced within the same month of the recalled vehicles but apparently not before the ending date of that recall. So other vw dealerships would be happy to replace the malfunctioning part but at an out of pocket cost for us, which we simply cannot afford, especially after the bill we are still working to pay for other unnecessary work. As a consumer it is very frustrating to have a vehicle that is clearly demonstrating the same issues as previously recalled vehicles but does not fall under that recall. We have reduced to only driving this vehicle as necessary and no longer use it to transport our two young children as we fear greatly for their safety.

19 Car Stall problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Routan

21 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 12/18/2015

While driving in low gears (2nd, 3rd) car will stall out. Power steering and power brakes no longer functioning, making the care very difficult to manuever. This is especially scary while driving in snow/ice. Making with even more dangerous is stalling while on back roads or curves, if I'm stalled in the middle of the road, another car might not be able to stop and run into me. Jerking movements are also occuring when driving at low speeds when not accelerating, like car is going to stall. VIN is not included in recall, but it is the same problem that was recalled on other 2010 Routans.

22 Car Stall problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 08/12/2015

When slowing down to turn into the parking lot at the local library the vehicle stalled and lost power. After coming to a stop the van would start fine and was able to finish the trip. A few days later this same issue occurred while coming to a stop. We returned the car to dealership for work on a faulty radio and mentioned this issue. The dealership had the radio replaced and took it to a vw dealership to have the ignition switch replaced under a safety recall. It worked fine for about a week then started happening again. The van was taken in for an oil change at an independent shop and they checked about the stalling issue. They could not find any codes indicating a problem, but after the oil change the van worked better for a few days. It now stalls multiple times per day, usually going less than 30 mph. On sept 19, 2015 the van stalled while accelerating on to the entrance ramp of the highway. The speed was about 45mph.

24 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 07/29/2015

My Mini-van shut off/ stalled while I was driving on the road. Every time it stalled I was driving slowly through construction zone or in front of a light where I had to pressed the brake to stop the car for over 30 seconds. I send it to vw service for repair but no problem was found. I am too scared to drive the car because I never know when its the next time it will stall again while I am driving on the road.

25 Car Stall problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 02/23/2015

Over the past 2 months, our 2009 vw Routan has repeatedly shut down while driving. The engine will stop, causing the power braking and power steering to go out. Once we pull over and turn the vehicle off, we can restart it. However, recently it's started to again stall within only a couple of miles of the first stall. We replaced the erg valve already. In doing some research, it appears that this dangerous problem may be due to an ignition switch problem. Our vehicle is one that is part of the recall that vw issued over 7 months ago! I called vw customer care yesterday and was told that the recall part still isn't available but it should be "ready soon. " the person I talked with had no idea when "soon" would be. He said the parts are coming from a different manufacturer. He told me to bring our vw to a vw dealership to have them complete a diagnosis on it. I explained that this vehicle has been nothing but problems for us and that I was unwilling to pay the dealership any additional money for a diagnosis fee when it is clearly part of the recall problem. The customer care representative started a case on our vehicle (whatever that means). In the meantime, I am scared to drive the vehicle as I have 2 young children that I will not put at risk of this thing shutting down while we are going 65 mph on the highway. It is clear to me that vw has exceeded an appropriate amount of time to fix the recall issue on all of these Routans. When will vw be held accountable to fix the recall issue - it's been over 7 months!.

27 Car Stall problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 11/21/2014

I bought this Routan aprox 8 months ago, nothing but problems,it has shut down in city traffic and highway speeds,I am aware of recall #28h1 from vw that 2 vw dealerships deny even exist. The dealer I bought this from test and diagnosed it as a defective wins module { ignition switch } and contacted a vw dealership in barre vermont and said they would order a module and scheduled a date to install it,a couple of days before appointment I myself decide to bring in myself and called to verify the date and time, there service department asked me for a recall number of which at the time I did not have because my service manager where I bought it from set this up. After tracking down the correct service rep at walker vw in barre vermont she informed me they did not order the part and there is no wins modules available yet 06/01/15 even though this recall was dated in March of 2014 ,still no fix whats up with that ? I guess our lives and the lives of our loved ones do not matter it is time for someone or the NHTSA to impose some serious preasure on volkswagon and demand that our vehicles be repaired correctly they should be brought up on charges for deceiveing the public. Even my own dealership has not been telling me everything until I corner them or catch them off guard, come to find out after squeezing it out of my own local service manager is that a wins module had already been replaced in my Routan for the prior owner, probably to pasify the customer. I am at this point looking at the legal grounds we all should have against these corperations like volkswagon or even Chrysler since they produced Routans for volkswagon. I would hate to trade this vehicle in just for some other sap to be stuck with a lemon . Its just not safe or dependable and we have a long trip in two days 50/50 chance we make it down and back with know problems ???.

31 Car Stall problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 06/01/2014

Randomly stalls while driving- brought to mechanic, paid almost $1000 to try to get fixed, brought back when everything paid for didn't fix & was told to report ignition switch recall to vw to get fixed. Also lost power to rear dvd within days after purchase & never knew what to do. Brake pads are bad within 3-4,000 miles- windshield washer squirter unrepairable. Biggest issue is the ignition switch though, if that what is causing van to stall - while going steady speed, usually occurs over 25 mph for more than 5 miles- van starts jerking like it's going to stall & when sitting at a stop light or sign, or parked, idling, stalls & takes multiple attempts to restart - this has been happening since I purchased my 2009 Routan in 2014 when it had less than 60k miles. I have brought to mechanics that are friends & to multiple dealerships & shops to diagnose & fix & paid for everything out of pocket to get fixed or replaced & it has never fixed the problem for more than a week. For the brakes, I buy only the mid level or high level grade brakes & have had to switch both front & rear brakes, rotors & calipers out @ least 3-4 times per year since about 1 month after ownership. Every time, 1-2 brake pads were completely bad & gone while the others were about 50-70% . Another issue, that has never been able to get fixed is the a/c- after recharging, the a/c will blow cold on the drivers side front only & hot throughout the rest of the car. When heat is on, same problem, only blows heat in front & cool in back. How do I get all recalls for my minivan repaired through Volkswagen? how does the process work? I have 5 small children & this is our only form of transportation. Will I be provided with a loaner that will seat my entire family while my vehicle is being repaired? please advise as I have had this minivan for over 3 years with these issues and spent thousands of dollars.

34 Car Stall problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 01/09/2014

The vehicle has a new battery which is correctly installed and free of corrosion. When the key fob is placed into the ignition and moved forward, the vehicle will not start. The dash lights come on, and it should start, but it does not. If you keep trying, or walk away and come back after a few minutes and try again, it does sometimes start. This intermittent problem seams to have no rhyme or reason and I am concerned the vehicle might stop while my wife or I drive it. This generally happens 4 to 5 times a month. Any help would be appreciated.
