Vehicle has experienced stalling, engine shutdown, and difficulty starting multiple times. Engine has now stalled more frequently at both low speeds and while driving on highway. Each time, rpm's have gone to zero and it's completely lost power to steering. I've had try and coast/navigate safely to side of road, berm, etc. , stop, and restart the van. At times the dash lights will flash, other times there is no indication that a failure had occurred, just no power/rpms. No check engine light remains, no codes displayed, nothing. The local Volkswagen dealer will not even address the issue as they deem it a "Chrysler problem". We now take it to an independent mechanic and replaced the crankshaft & camshaft position sensors, key fobs, battery, and have done all preventative maintenance. The problem still remains. There are similar complaints (vw, Chrysler, & Dodge) for this exact engine & symptoms that may be related to the tipm, the main control module. This is a very serious safety issue as it random and causes a complete shutdown of vehicle while in motion and loss of operator control.

My check engine light came on so I had the code checked it indicated that O2 sensors needed replaced then the code indicated a cylinder 4 misfire? ihave replaced the ignition coil pack, checked cylinder compression, changed spark plugs and fuel injector and I still have the po304 code engine misfire cylinder #4??? I am so frustrated what else could I be missing to clear this code issue?.

Driving at low speed van raced forward then stopped almost hit another vehicle. Now won't run and check engine light on. I was in a parking lot of a target when happened.
I've been experiencing major safety problems with my 2012 vw Routan lately. On several occasions, while driving, my van has completely shut down. The dashboard, engine, power steering, everything completely turns off and I am unable to do anything until the vehicle comes to a complete stop and I start the engine again. The first time it shut down, I was driving in the city driving at 35 mph. Out of no where, the engine shut down, simultaneously the dashboard turned off and I lost all control of my vehicle until it came to a complete stop and I was able to turn it back on. But the last time this happened, I was on the freeway, driving in the rain, at 60 miles/hr. The scariest part is not having control of the wheel and have the ability to safely pull over to the shoulder before restarting the engine again. The mechanic I contacted was not been able to figure out what the problem is. The check engine light does not turn on, I don't get any type of warning and no "codes" come up. I am terrified of driving my van anymore. I have two small children and do not feel safe driving it. I did some research online and have found a recall for the exact problem, but for older models (up to 2011). I have reached out to the local vw dealer and have been told they cannot honor the recall for the 2012 models. I don't understand, why the dealer refuses to fix the problem under the 2011 vw Routan reacall if it is for the exact same safety defect. How many people have to get hurt or worse before the issue gets addressed?.

Engine turns off while driving down the road. Vehicle has trouble restarting after an occurrence. There is no indication as to when this issue will occur. The check engine light does not come on before or after an incident. Volkswagen claims my VIN is not part of the ignition recall, NHTSA campaign id 15v194000. At approximately ~70,000 miles this would occur about once a month. Now at 105,000 miles it is occurring more often. Normally once a week, but it has occurred just recently two days in a row. Volkswagen service department is unhelpful since there is no code in the computer.

While driving at 65 mph on i35, the car's transmission acted like it slipped into 2nd gear and the tack went to 5000rpm. I tried to just slow down and get off the road, turned the car off and back on when I got to a parking lot. I then started driving again and it appeared to be alright. Within a few days it did it a couple times more, this time turning on the check engine light. Took it to the dealer and they couldn't duplicate problem in the week they had it. Picked it up from the dealership and was about 10 to 15 miles away and it did it again. I took it back to the dealer the next day and it has been there for two weeks. They told me an engineer from corporate came to check it out and during that time they had another car - same year, same style, even same color come into the shop with the same problem and they verified the problem on both of the cars. They said it was the transmission and it is going to cost somewhere around $5000. 00 +/- to get it fixed. This is a very dangerous problem and I am hoping that something will be done about it. There are numerous stories on the internet with people in Volkswagens that have had the same or similar problems. Cannot see why there hasn't been a recall for this problem. They even admitted that they had seen the same or similar problems posted on the internet.
Vehicle engine would do the extended crank, and not turn over, or would turn over and die instantly, check engine light would flash 10 times. Took vehicle to the dealer to find out that the tipm module had failed, the repair was $1200, and took a week. Chrysler had built the vehicle for Volkswagen from their town and country line, however unlike Chrysler, Volkswagen doesn't honor the recall although the part is physically the same mopar part across the board. Volkswagen also stated they offer no assistance after the base warranty is gone as well. Isn't there some federal mandate that requires these devices to be warranted further than the normal 36,000 miles? I guess it will take someone getting severely injured or killed in one of these vans for Volkswagen to open there eyes. . .
My 2011 Routan suddenly lost power while I, with my kid on board, was driving on a highway in March 2014. Can you imagine a vehicle stopping in a flow of vehicles at 70+ mph? all lights were on. I managed to restart the engine and was able to drive but the check engine light was still on. The dealership from whom I bought the vehicle "repaired" it and told me that "everything is fine" by having a brand-new set of wiring. A month later, the same life-threatening issue happened again while I was driving. This time, the vehicle stalled and I could not rotate the steering wheel at all. Now the vehicle is again with the dealership for diagnosis. As a matter of fact, about half a year ago before these losses of power happened, I experienced another problem with the vehicle. The acceleration was not very responsive. That is, when I hit the gas pedal, the vehicle initially did not accelerate at all and after 2-3 seconds, it suddenly accelerated. This really frightened me as I tried to change lanes. Now I have no confidence with this vehicle at all. I am deeply worried that even if the vehicle is "repaired" this time, I and my family could get injured or killed by having a car that randomly shuts off in the midst a stream of fast-moving vehicles. This type of vehicle should be banned from the road for the safety of innocent people.
I was driving about 30 mph when it felt like the car was going to die/stall. My vehicle has only 30k on it and actually sat at home two years after I bought it while I work from home. Nevertheless it felt like the engine was going to stall out like I had no gasoline. This issue started out intermittent, but progressed and I could feel shaking from the floor boards. I took it into the dealer and they replaced some ball bearings under warranty. However about a month later the same problem starting occurring. This time the check engine light came on. I took it into the dealer and they said the spark plugs and the coil pack were bad. This part is supposed to last about 100k. It was out of warranty so we took it somewhere else to get it fixed. It has been fixed a few weeks and it feel like the same problem is happening again. The car does not shift well at low speeds and seems to almost stall out while turning corners. Also it is idling at a higher rpm than it had several months ago.
Was driving on a freeway with a baby when the car will not move forward while running at 60mph. Very dangerous especially with a baby. The car was also backing up if we do not step on the handbrake. The previous day brought the car to the dealer because I told them that the car will not move even if I step on the gas and the engine light is on. Also told them to check thoroughly because I am going on a roadtrip. They called and said the car does not have a problem. I found out that Volkswagen has an issue with transmission. Service center should have look into this being that it is common problem with Volkswagen before releasing the car. Also when I called their roadside assistance they said that the nearest dealer will not take our car because we need an appointment. ( for an emergency) what do we do, I even told them we have a baby with us and we are in a busy freeway. We had to call again and tell them the situation. Then the dealer helped us. Called Volkswagen customer service on 9/06 told a guy named[xxx]. About their warranty and said talk it out with the dealer, dealers are a private owned company. Who do we then bring the car for repair for cars under warranty? when I called their customer service seems like transmission issue is not something important but not for somebody like me who drives with a baby it is very important. My 2009 Routan 3. 8l will intermit not start / I get check engine light and electricial ligthing bolt. About 3 years ago it started and I was told it was my battery. Replaced my battery it was good for about 1yr then it started again had the battery replaced again then about 1yr later it started again but my battery is tested good. I went through 2 batteries in about 3 yrs. I even had my starter checked and it tested good. My friend who is a machanic said why is the starter next to the exchaust manafold it is getting hot. When I have issue in the last year it take about 30min or longer before it starts then I might not have any issues for about 1 or 2 weeks and sometime I might have the issues 2 times in one day. I have checked online and I am seeing many people are complaining about the 2009 vw Routan intermit not starting. I have call vw and my van is not on the list for the ignition switch recall. Today 8/5/2014 my Routan I will not start at all I am gonig to have the battery checked.
