Airbag clock switch failed on my 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan. The vehicle was in motion, turning a 45 degree corner, and a 'grinding' and 'popping' sound occurred.
No electrical connection to steering wheel, air bag light is on. . . All similar problems to takata recall but my VIN was not included in the recall and the dealership is trying to charge me $800 to fix it. When vehicle was stationary and switched on, there was a tearing sound from the steering wheel - then nothing worked in the steering wheel, not the horn or the cruise control or anything. And the air bag light is on.
Takata recall. The contact owns a 2011 Volkswagen Tiguan. The contact had not experienced a failure until the vehicle was repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 15v483000 (air bags). Shortly after the dealer's repair, the ribbon cable snapped internally and caused a failure. The steering wheel seized and the air bag indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the ribbon cable affected the function of the horn, steering, cruise control and other components. The contact stated that the remedy failed to provide a solution. The dealer indicated that the clock spring assembly needed to be replaced. It was also stated that the steering wheel, multi-function switch, and cruise control needed to be repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 82,300.
Takata recall - driver's side air bag stopped working the horn stopped working while I was driving. I found out that the horn wasn't working as I was almost killed by someone moving in to my lane and directly toward my car. Luckily, they saw me at the last minute. , all computer communication in the steering column stopped working. Looked on line and saw that these issues were caused by a bad clock switch. Took the car to the dealer and I was told there was no recall for my car. They told me that the clock spring was no longer covered by warranty because I had 50,000 miles on the car. The dealer wanted to charge me 800. 00 to fix the clock spring.
