Normally vw is extremely intelligently designed but their design of the electronic brake module leaves much to be desired. The module consists of a recessed elongated toggle switch that allows one to set the parking brake at the flick of a finger as opposed to the old handbrake/footbrake pedal (effective model year 2013). Unfortunately, it is super easy to active the emergency brake/parking brake by causing your coffee cup to pull up one the toggle switch (if memory serves me right, there have been 8 accidental activations while on the freeway. ) my problem DE jour was the opposite. I was in my driveway and late for work and the parking brake wouldn't disengage. I tried everything from disconnecting the battery to wiggling it back & forth and nothing worked. My dealer's quote was approximately $1,500. 00 which caused me to faint. I ran my blue driver osbd ii scanner and it showed no problems? I then stared hopelessly at the switch and noticed it wasn't flush with the console, meaning it was a top loader (thank god). I immediately removed it but couldn't undo the wire harness without turning it upside down & shaking it. Well, when I did that. . . An american d-I-m-e fell out and unblocked the mechanism. If you store loose change on top of the two cubby holes above the console---you will risk jamming the car in park even though nothing else is wrong. My solutions: (a) make it idiot proof by scotch taping a business card over the e-brake (one piece only so as to make it a reuseable paper flap (b) be as stupid & careless as you always are/were and if your parking brake fails to retract, take yer fingernails and pop open the switch, remove the wire harness (pull the red tongue out first), turn it upside down and then bang it violently until your dime or tortilla chip or paper clip or cherry pit works its self out. . . . Or see solution (a). Fyi, car was stationary.

I crashed due to brake failure on 10. 31. 2019. I made a right turn from a light. Traffic came to a stop. I pushed the break and it did not hold. It felt bumpy. Breaks did not hold even when I pushed it all the way to the floor. I ended up rear ending the car infront of me going 15mph. What's going on there? something needs to be done about that ASAP.

Purchased car June 30, check engine light illuminated on way home from dealer. Next day check engine light off, brake power boost failure flicker on screen, auto start/stop not functioning, restart car all gone. Next trip tire pressure warning, unable to reset. Had to go to an appointment and was heading to dealer on the way home, car went black, lost acceleration, no response from throttle while driving 75mph on busy freeway. Had to coast across five lanes of traffic to be safe. Restart car, drove to dealer. Total amount of miles on car 152. Purchased Sunday evening 6:30 pm in repair after near collision Tuesday evening 5:00 pm.

A liquid was accidently spilled on the parking brake, which is located next to the cup holders. Now the car is saying there is a "parking brake failure", indicating this electronic equipment is not sealed from spills even though it is located next to the cup holders.
The contact owns a 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the accelerator failed to engage. Also, the emergency brake failed to release when in park. The dealer was contacted. The manufacturer was not aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 28,300 and the current mileage was 29,000.
Sporadic, complete brake failure. Brakes fail to catch, petal depressed to the floor does not initiate any braking. Once brakes are completely released and pushed again brakes finally catch. This issue occurs at different speeds, sometimes right after car is started, other times after it has been running a while. Has occurred 5-7 times in the last year. Vw technicians cannot reproduce, so will not do anything to fix. Lucky there has been enough stopping distance in the previous instances to pus the brakes twice, but this presents a safety hazard to those in the Tiguan and surrounding cars.

Problem started within two weeks of leasing-going on nine months now. After first time, I immediately began to keep tremendous space between me and the car ahead of me. Highly unpredictable undetectable problem. . Brakes lose power brakes feature as noted by driving done by myself (more than 20 times), my car salesman (more than 3 times) and a bbb test drive. Brakes get stiff, must push harder to get vehicle to stop creating greater stopping distance. Vw tech ticket technology shows no problem. . So no repair done, but there is a problem. Since undetectable, I'm concerned about a total brake failure. My bbb resolution. . Give back my down payment, payments made-to-date so I can get out of the unsafe car. Bbb ruling. . Vw is to fix the brakes, then I drive it 30 days to see if problem is corrected. That ruling is unsafe, unrealistic and irrational-keeps me and others at risk. At the bbb hearing, vw rep stated that brakes will be repaired once a problem is duplicated and recognized as a problem. Their technology can't do that and yet driving shows a problem. Now vw wants Audi to inspect vehicle and do a repair. Audi is a vw division and most likely would use the same test equipment. How can vw fix a problem about which they know nothing? this problem could also be computer related. Vw offered me a 10% off any vw vehicle using my car as a trade-in. My dealership doesn't want the car due to this problem. To my shock, vw said the offer is good at any vw dealership. . Basically telling me to lie about the problem. I won't do that to any dealership. The car puts lives at risk. At this time, nothing has been done to correct the problem. Vw has yet to duplicate/recognize it as a problem and is unable to fix it. So wrong on a humanistic level. Vw should buy back this car at full purchase price with all my money refunded to me. The consequence of this is I am stuck with a car I can't trade-in and vw can't fix. Vw doesn't care about safey as they say they do, they only care about money.
