2 Other Fuel System problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 12/13/2024

While driving my family around, the car lost engine power and came to a stop on a busy roadway leaving us stranded until a tow truck could arrive. There were no warnings or indications that anything was wrong. One minute, it was driving fine and out of nowhere, the engine shut off in the middle of the road leaving us blocking a lane and creating a dangerous situation. The dealership is claiming that the high pressure fuel pump suffered a catastrophic failure and that the entire fuel system needs to be replaced, which is going to cost more than $13,000.

3 Other Fuel System problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 10/31/2024

I get dizzy every time I drive my 2006 Volkswagen Touareg. There is a fuel smell inside the cabin and outside of the driver's rear wheel well. I noticed this during the short time I park in my garage. Since, the noticeable smell, I have been parking outside and have since minimized by use of the vehicle. I love the vehicle, but I am getting headaches and dizziness while driving it. Upon looking up more information on the fuel smell, I came across Volkswagen manufacture safety recall 20ai and 20z4. Since I last spoke of community Volkswagen of santa maria, they said that the recall has been repaired. However, after further research, this is an open recall and is still eligible to be repaired. Please advise me on my next steps so as to not be in a dangerous situation while driving this vehicle. Thank you.

4 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 10/02/2024

Previous recall in 2017 regarding fuel filter housing cracks and seals has failed. In 2017 it was approved to allow vw to use cellophane sticky tape to cover the fuel filter crack in plastic housing. It has failed. The car has 43,000 miles, the cabin has strong odor smell. The left rear wheel arch has extremely strong gasoline smell. How was vw able to get approval to fix a serious fuel leak with sticky tape?.

5 Other Fuel System problem of the 2008 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 07/10/2024

I was driving the vehicle and noticed smoke coming out from under the hood I pulled over immediately and the whole engine compartment was on fire I tried to put fire but fire department showed up and extinguish the fire, fire was due to a fuel leak.

6 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 08/07/2023

The issue explained in recall notice 20ai has reappeared after being 'fixed'. Issue summary: on certain vehicles, the fuel pump flange may develop fine cracks or fissures, which could result in a fuel leak. Leaking fuel, in the presence of an ignition source, could lead to a fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Date of recall repair: 02/25/2019 date of noticed failure: 08/07/2023 it has not been communicated that this part will continue to be a hazard, and I have now discovered that even when noted that this recall action has been completed, my vehicle has gasoline leaking into the passenger compartment via the same avenue as recall 20ai notes. This is highly concerning as all impacted vw Touaregs that were 'recalled' may still be at risk of vehicle fire or ignition.

The car at half tank will read as being empty. Fuel pump flange? the car will have gas and then randomly show fuel error and drop to empty. The car is drivable and then while drive will switch to empty back to half full mode. Less of the worry the adaptive cruise control and fwd collision warning freeze/not working.

11 Other Fuel System problem of the 2008 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 07/14/2022

2008 Touareg 3. 6l/v6 intake manifold/valve cover explosion. . . . March 2021, several incidents while driving vehicle would completely shut off/ loose power, with no prior warning or apparent cause, leaving driver at a total loss of steering control, as well as leaving vehicle completely disabled supposedly resulting from battery dying. Engine code scanner findings: several cylinders misfiring, possible timing chain, & (p0456) evap leak (among others). Repairs performed: 06/25/21 valve cover & battery replacement. Shortly after repairs noticed (never before seen) oil leak caused from recently repaired (faulty part) valve cover, which was then replaced again. (jump ahead to present) July 14, 2022, upon attempted ignition, quickly noticed vehicle trying to turn over for several seconds without success, so turned key to off immediately heard an extremely loud "boom" followed by smoke bellowing out from under my hood/ engine. Popped hood to inspect the cause & discovered the valve cover had blown its top right off, exploded into several pieces, exposing valves to naked eye. Vehicle was then stranded, not starting, engine would not turn over. Had to have it towed to shop, awaiting update & information.

12 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 06/27/2022

Gas leak (see pics). I started noticing a strong gasoline smell and my car keeps running out of gas almost immediately after filling up. This has not been inspected nor confirmed by a dealer. This is my only source of transportation and needs to be fixed ASAP. There is not a vw dealership where I live, the closest being in mario, IL, or st. Louis, mo.

13 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 09/18/2021

I have a 2010 vw touarge v6, recently it started leaking fuel out, after taking the car to vw dealership, they told me the fuel was leaking out from the fuel filter flange. Vw had a recall on (2007-2010 vw touarge) fuel filter flange back in 2017 (see below) https://static. Nhtsa. Gov/odi/rcl/2017/rcrit-17v151-3759. Pdf they acknowledges that there was a flaw in the fuel filter flange that the plastic part could crack and leak out fuel after some years. Back in 2017, I took the car to vw dealership and the recall repair they did on my car was to install a protective film on the flange (since they deemed that the flange was not broken when examined during the recall repair at the time). Now 4 years later, the flange is cracking and leaking fuel out, obviously the recall fix (protective film) did not stop the flange from cracking or fuel from leaking out. I have contacted vw customer care and stated that they failed to fix the fuel leaking hazard as the protective film was ineffective in stopping fuel to leak out from a now broken flange. I hoped they could cover the fix of the broken flange. Vw customer service refused to fix the problem for me under the recall and asked me to be fully responsible for the fix, as they claimed that the "recall was done", despite that I showed they the recall details, and mentioned that the problematic flange was not replaced, and questions the effectiveness of the recall repair done in 2017. I feel I have to question whether the original recall fix was proper (that for un-cracking flange at the time, only a protective film was installed instead of replacing the problematic fuel filter flange, that had big leaking problems) so please help to investigate the case, and let vw know that they should always put customer's safety first. Looks to me, they used a cheap method (a plastic film) to avoid replacing an already inexpensive flange part, and in exchange, customer had to face such safety hazard and big car repair bill. . .

14 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 09/01/2021

My vehicle is leaking gas, I was told there is a recall on my vehicle so I took it into the Volkswagen dealership where I was told that the recall only covers the driver side leak but not the passenger side leak which makes absolutely no sense. Because when I drive off of the service lot the problem still exists which means I could be blown up or cause injury of fire. This recall should cover all aspects of the fuel leak! not just one side! making customers pay for this is disgusting! I am a single mom and don't have an extra $600 to spend on an issue that should have been corrected by the manufacturer.

15 Other Fuel System problem of the 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 08/08/2020

SUV is not getting gas to engine.

16 Other Fuel System problem of the 2008 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 04/23/2020

April 21, 2008, my wife finished her job and called me that she will be home soon. Few minutes later I got the call from her telling me that something has happened to our 2008 vw Touareg that there was a big explosion and smoke was coming from under the hood. She was very disturbed not knowing what just had happened. I arrived at the scene and noticed that hood had some dents from the inside out. I lifted the hood and saw fuel intake manifold completely destroyed. My wife was shaking, people form work were asking what happened? I towed my car to vw service to find out what caused the explosion they could not pin point what really caused it. I searched the internet and find out that this is not the only time it has happened. When calling vw of canada I was told, because the car has no warranty they can not do anything and I will have to pay for the repair out of my own pocket. My wife cried when I asked her to get her stuff from the vehicle, before it was towed away. I do not know how will I persuade her to drive this car again or even to buy another Volkswagen. We own a 2017 vw golf as well. Do I want to keep it? I do not think so. My fate in vw has diminished. I always told everybody that this is a car for people to enjoy. Was I wrong? ## #vpic# 4 - VIN corrected, error in one position only (indicated by ! in suggested VIN), multiple matches found; 14 - unable to provide information for all the characters in the VIN. #vpic#.

18 Other Fuel System problem of the 2008 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 05/20/2019

With each passing day, the scent of fuel continues to increase and now enters the vehicle cabin at low idle speeds (especially when exiting major roads of travel).

23 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 08/07/2018

Overall life of car have had to replace the majority of the hoses in the engine, the fuel line, the emergency brake release leavor-3 times, the horn on the passenger and drivers side. And with the recall the gas flange - cracking. The product vw uses in this vehicle is inferior- plastic expands when hot and contracts when cold= cracking. Please recall this vehicle due to the potential of the gas flange or whatever else is related to the gas before anyone in my family or others die. Or my cas goes up into flames causing severe trauma- especially because you already know there is a problem. We have paid thousands of dollars in repair costs in this vehicle that vw of America will not help - the entire enterrier plastic coating to the vehicle has melted - the drivers side visitor hangs as the spring action or what ever it's called is broken. We have owned many cars, fords, Toyotas, Honda's and several vws. The Touareg and all of primary safety features should always function safely-the gas issue is a major issue that should automatically be a recall to save lives!.

24 Other Fuel System problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 08/04/2018

The vehicle smelled like gas inside & out whether still, or driving, running or off. Then a few days in, fuel, or a gas-smelling substance, began rapidly leaking from the underside of the car. I was told it was also coolant.

26 Other Fuel System problem of the 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 07/23/2018

The Touareg made some rattling noise while I was driving at 35 mph. As soon I stopped and made it my destination and turned off the car the car wouldn't start up. I took it to the dealership and the dealership couldn't figure out why the car wouldn't start. Finally, after a well over a week, they determined that I needed to replace all six fuel injectors. The fuel injectors got replaced now the car turns on but as soon as you step on the gas the car dies.

27 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 07/04/2018

When I get gas for my Touareg 2005 I'll shut the SUV off pop open the fuel box door and put the gas in then as I put cap back on shut door get in the SUV I try to start the SUV but it seems as if the cars either out of gas or battery has died so after the first like say 4-6 times of this happening to me I tried to leave the car running as I put the gas in the SUV in hopes of it still remain on and running but sure enough the suvs battery light will pop on and the car will lose life but the lights and stuff still remain on but no driving happening so I'd have to turn the key off then try and start it up again but as I turn the key I'll have to pump the gas peddle a bunch to catch the flow I guess.

30 Other Fuel System problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 04/13/2018

After vw emission repair the car stalls in shifting gears at low speed. I took at the dealership repair shop 3 times everytime the kept the car for about 2-3 weeks and couldn't resolve the issue. It appears like there is no fuel coming to the engine or the car computer do not allow the car to shift to the next gear until it hits 3000 rpm in speeds lower the 35mph. From what I understand with speaking with vw dealer advisors that this as a result of the emission repair and they can't fix it. This made the car undrivable since it's keep staling and you can't drive in the city without the jerking feeling from the engine. Vw customer care representative kept changing their version. At first, they said the cars computer will learn my driving pattern and will adjust. Then when I spoke with a supervisor they claimed this is how the car should drive after the emission repair. When speaking with the service advisor at stholman vw he told me he ha a customer with the same car in for 3 months and they couldn't fix that issue.

32 Other Fuel System problem of the 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 01/27/2018

There was a recall issued on my vehicle back on September 20th 2017, I called the dealership on October 23rd 2017 to find out a resolution to this problem, they advised there was not a remedy yet but would contact me when there was. It has not been almost 6 months since the recall was issued with no contact from dealer or resolution. This vehicle is used by my wife to transport my children and it is unsafe, as we have started to smell gasoline in and around the vehicle, I have no noticed any major leaks yet but I do not want her driving the vehicle until it is fixed and it should not take 6 months to do so.

Strong smell gasoline.

35 Other Fuel System problem of the 2007 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 11/17/2017

Volkswagen sent me a recall notice on our 2007 Touareg. This involved the fuel filter flange on the car. It specifically said if you are smelling gasoline take it to the dealer right away. In August 2017 we took the car in to have it inspected. They said at the time nothing was wrong. We started smelling gas fumes coming from the car in Nov. 2017 and took it to village Volkswagen in chattanooga TN. They confirmed it was the fuel filter flange that was at fault and according to them, Volkswagen refused to replace the part or pay for any of the repairs. As this recall involves potentially having the vehicle that my wife uses to transport our grandchildren around to catch on fire, I was then directly told do you want us to repair it or not and the total cost of repairs was $652. 00. I had the vehicle checked by an independent mechanic and showed village Volkswagen the diagnosis and everyone agreed it was the part mentioned in the recall warranty. The service department person, ben, at village Volkswagen said that Volkswagen refusal to help with these repairs was based on the fact that they did not know what I could have done to the car. Like I was going to crawl under the car my wife drives with our grandchildren and fiddle with some flange? the insinuation was very aggravating to say the least and so I had to pay to have this repair accomplished or have a vehicle that puts my family in danger. I feel that Volkswagen should have covered these costs. I am attaching both the recall notice and the receipt from village Volkswagen showing the cost of the repair. I asked on Nov 17, 2017 to speak to the general manager at village Volkswagen and was told he was not in that day and was not offered anyone else to talk to.
