36 Other Fuel System problem of the 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 11/15/2017

I received a safety recall 20ai regarding my Volkswagen Touareg, it is a serious safety recall as it involves the fuel possible leakage; however, the recall repair is not yet available, and I am supposed watch out for fuel leak/smell !!! I am now not enjoying driving my car and feeling it is safe anymore for kids. I am requesting that this safety recall be fixed right now. I don't know how, but probably the car maker knows, as he knew how to manufacture, sell and make profit out of these cars.

Failure Date: 10/02/2017

There is current safety recall 20z4 for fuel filter flange and my car is in the shop now to get it fixed however there are additional repirs needed and I wonder if these additonal repairs are related to the recent recall since they all pertain to fuel. The additional repairs are replace both fuel sensor/pipe and high pressure pump. The dealership has told me this will cost me about $1700. The recall letter I received has NHTSA#17v151.

41 Other Fuel System problem of the 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

42 Other Fuel System problem of the 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 09/14/2017

Some weeks ago, the tv news reported a recall for my vehicle. I have had no other notification. I have lived here for 51 years and haven't changed my phone number. What is most disturbing is that your website knows nothing about this!!! besides cashing your paycheck, what else do you do to justify breathing???.

44 Other Fuel System problem of the 2008 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 07/18/2017

In regards to manufacturer recall #20z4 (NHTSA recall #17v151), there is still no resolution at least 3 months after the recall has been issued, which I confirmed by calling vw. I am told if I smell gas to drive it to the dealer to get looked at. Although I don't currently smell gas, my concern is the potential for fire should it start to leak. Consider my 4 year old daughter is strapped into her car seat in the rear seat. Under her are the fuel filters in question which potentially leak. Under the fuel filters is the hot exhaust. My concern is what timeframe do I have from the time I smell gas, to the time it comes in contact with the hot exhaust and possibly ignites? what happens if I smell gas in gridlock traffic - is there enough risk that I should immediately get my daughter out of the car? or should I continue driving to the dealer as vw recommends and risk us catching on fire on the way there? while vw is recognizing the problem, they seem to be dragging their feet on resolution to what is potentially a life threatening issue.

45 Other Fuel System problem of the 2008 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 07/15/2017

The contact owns a 2008 Volkswagen Touareg. While the vehicle was parked in the garage, a strong fuel odor was noticed inside and around the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (royal Volkswagen, located at 3010 columbiana rd, birmingham, al 35216) where it was diagnosed that the fuel filter flange detached and needed to be replaced. The dealer stated that the contact would need to pay out of pocket for the repair. The vehicle was not repaired due to the repair fee. The contact received a recall notification for NHTSA campaign number: 17v151000 (fuel system, gasoline); however, the part needed for the repair was not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that he had to paid out of pocket and would possibly be reimbursed. The approximate failure mileage was 87,000. VIN tools confirms parts not available.

46 Other Fuel System problem of the 2008 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 06/29/2017

Heavy gasoline smell inside cabin and noticable outside of car as well. Very unsafe. Assumed to be related to pending recall 20z4 but tracy Volkswagen dealership is making this a very difficult process and made me agree to pay for the diagnostic if they think its not related to the recall. They would not agree to check the recall for free even though my car is a gasoline bomb right now. This is putting me in the middle between vw corporate and a privately owned dealership where one is speaking very nicely to me, and the other is speaking down to me. Please help.

47 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 06/28/2017

In June 2017, I noticed fuel smell inside the vehicle. On July 1, 2017, I inspected the issue and discovered that the fuel filter flange was damaged and leaking fuel (fumes) close to electrical components and under the seat where my son sits. Please see the attached photo. I ordered the retainer rings and gaskets (both sides) from a vw dealership. On July 14, 2017, I ordered ta new fuel filter flange from a seller on ebay that specializes in new vw parts. The fuel filter flange was new and manufactured by vdo (continental). I installed all the parts towards the end of July 2017 and this fixed the problem. I actually replaced both sides (driver & passenger) because both sides are a problem. Please keep in mind that I wasn't or shouldn't have waited until the recall notice. This was a serious safety flaw and needed to be fixed immediately. I have a good knowledge in mechanics and capable to perform most repairs. I didn't drive the car until I received the parts and fixed the issue. I submitted my receipts for reimbursement under the recall. Please see the letter from vw denying any reimbursement. They claim that my parts were not new and not vw approved parts. The retainer ring & gasket was purchased by a vw dealership and the fuel filter flange was new and manufactured by vdo, which is the oe company that makes them for vw. Volkswagen of America is clearly not taking this issue serious and doesn't care about the safety of its consumers. They are denying claims for reimbursement and disregarding this serious issue. I had no choice and fixed the issue immediately.

48 Other Fuel System problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 06/20/2017

There is an open, pending recall on the fuel filter assembly. It is noticed by the smell of gasoline outside and possibly inside the cabin, mostly coming from the driver's side rear door as the assembly is under the back seat on that side of the vehicle.

The manufacturer was not contacted and made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 95,171.

50 Other Fuel System problem of the 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 06/06/2017

One morning in June 2017 my husband stopped for gas. After getting gas he started to turn out of the gas station when our car (2004 Volkswagen Touareg) stopped moving and shut down. My husband tried several times to start and move the car, but to no avail. The car had to be towed (at our expense) to our local gas station. The gas station performed $1,164. 16 worth of work. They did an excellent job of locating the problem and fixing it for a reasonable price. In November 2017 we received a safety recall notice from Volkswagen. The recall is 'safety recall 20ai - fuel filter flange. ' however, the recall notice stated that vw does not have a fix yet for the issue. This appears to be the issue that happened to our car. We chatted online with a vw agent, explained everything and she said that there was nothing they could do at this point. The vw agent provided me with a case #(171803619), but said that there was no fix and, that until vw came up with a fix, there would be no way that we could recoup our money spent. We didn't understand how they do not have a fix, since it happened to our car and it's fixed and running fine today. We'd like to recoup our money spent out of pocket for what seems to be a safety recall which no one is doing anything about.

53 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 04/03/2017

The top of the fuel filter housing cracked and was leaking fuel. This housing is underneath the rear seat behind the driver's seat. The cracks weren't related to usage of the vehicle or an accident. It appears to be general deterioration of the plastic. This is the same problem covered by vw recall 20z4 or NHTSA reference #17v151000. However those only cover vehicles back to 2007.

54 Other Fuel System problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 04/01/2017

I have taken this vehicle to the Volkswagen dealer because of a fuel smell and a sudden jolt that I get undercarriage when driving. They have told me that they are not sure where the jolt is coming from they don't know if it is the transmission or a fuel leak. I'm very afraid to continue driving this vehicle. I have a small child and I would like for Volkswagen to buy the vehicle back from me. Please see enclosed letter from vw. Thank you!.

Add blue heater system on the diesel engine went bad after less than 42000 miles. I thought this was part of the emission system in this car but vw does not see it this way. I got my car repaired for this issue after smelling gas leakage before vw released the relevant recall campaign. I sent vw all receipt for repair paid by my pocket money, but vw refused to reimburse for my expense because I got it repaired too early. I did on 09/17/2014 but vw states that only the repair was done between 09/20/2016 and 03/19/2018. This is ridiculous answer. I am here attaching all the receipt and the letter from vw . 69 Other Fuel System problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 06/11/2014

My daughter was driving and I was with her. She has her permit. My toureg stalled three times. Once at a stop light and short after with her driving. It was very scary and dangerous. In addition, on Wednesday, June 11th. I experienced the same problem. My car is at the dealership close to me. They said they adjusted something with the throttle. I also have had problems with the shaking in the steering wheel at speeds of 65-70 mph. They are aligning it to see if that will solve the problem. I am kind of scared to drive with the stalling problem. I hope this resolves it, otherwise it will be back in the shop! this is something that vw needs to take seriously. I love my car but want it to be safe!.

70 Other Fuel System problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Touareg

Failure Date: 03/26/2014

I was turning across traffic (left). I started to cross traffic and the vehicle stalled, almost seem to die, then recouped and went across. This has happened 2 times in 1000 miles. I almost got hit by on-coming traffic the first time. It is a very serious situation and one that could cause injury, or worse, death. I was told by a vw service manager, at a dealership, that it was a transmission hesitation and that it was normal for a diesel. I have driven diesels all my life and this is not normal for a diesel, or any other vehicle for that matter. I have asked to have a vw representative contact me but have heard nothing so far.
