2020 Volvo S60 t-6 r went in for service at Volvo dealer, 5/12/21, mileage 24,018. Technician noted rear brakes less than 2mm & rotors grooved, needs to be replaced. I was told this is not under warranty, it's normal wear. This vehicle had service at the same dealer on 12/8/20, mileage 16,952 the service report stated, "brakes in the green 7mm or more". The vehicle is driven highway miles mainly, regardless of that fact, brake pads don't not wear down 5mm in 7,000 miles on a new car unless there's an underlying problem, there has already been a recall on the rear automatic park brake, seems likely that there's additional problems with the rear brakes. The replacement cost me $888. 00.

I was leaving ucla parking garage (I'm an rn there) when I put my Volvo 2004 S60 into gear and it took off backwards like a rocket, car was thrown into a concrete post far away from where I began. I immediately put car in park since I thought I'd get out and see what on earth happened, but it then lunged forward by itself and took off without stopping!!! thank god it was 6pm and not an hour earlier when many staff would have been in garage, I'd have run them over! I also turned off ignition with key, nothing helped!! it kept going along with a mind of its own at approx 15 mph making a growling whirring sound. I was able to steer car and avoid other vehicles but eventually had to make serious decision to purposely crash into another concrete massive post which I did and the "possessed beast". Finally came to a halt with fluid pouring out all over,. My brakes did not work during this event, not at all, that's why I couldn't stop the car (along with foot on brake, tried putting car in park gear and turned off ignition key
last August when I had only 22, 000 miles on car it took it to Volvo dealer twice, since car was often stalling and stopping on the street while I was driving. I was told they couldn't find it stalling when they test drove it but they mentioned they cleaned the throttle and said that could help (which it did until 2, 500 miles later when this happened. I have dealer paperwork indicating car stalling and that they cleaned throttle box also, they said I should be taking car on the freeway more at high enough speed to "blow off the carbon" I spent Friday night in er with neck/shoulder injuries, but this could have been a disaster. Forgot to mention that when I took car in for service July 2007 dealer replaced fuel pressure sensor as per recall. Don't know if this is significant. Also wrote on form "during inspection found upper engine mount collapsed, cause. . . . . . . . Engine repair". Updated 03-25-08
the dealer stated rear brake pads had to be replaced. Updated 03/25/08.

Jan. , 2007: car was towed to Volvo dealership. After taking car to car wash in 14 degree weather, tire, brake pads or rotor froze, making the car undriveable. Feb. 24, 2007: drove 45 minutes on highway during blowing snow. My car had been parked in my home garage. I parked car outside for 3 hours at my destination. Driving the 45 minutes return trip, the steering wheel shook like I was holding onto a battering ram or jack hammer resulting in extremely rough driving. According to the dealership, the tire, brake pads or rotor froze and the freezing problem makes the tire(s) seem out of balance. The tires felt extremely out of balance. My hands were literally shaking like I had parkinsons. 3/7/on my way to work after car was parked in my home garage, the tires or brakes, etc. Must have frozen again within ten minutes. I took the first highway exit to slow from 60 mph to try to get the steering wheel and car from shaking so much. Dealership says this is "normal". I have had more incidents to a lesser extent where the steering wheel and car shook to a lesser extent. I am afraid of getting into an accident. This 2006 S60 Volvo is less than one year old, bought new. The car is not fit for winter driving. Another dealership told me the seizing up of the tire, brake or rotor could happen even in warm weather and they too said they see this often in Volvos. It is a major problem that should be dealt with.
